Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Glory to God from Wonder Love and Praise

Sung by the Cantor and all repeat two times

Collect of the Day

Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us pray. Most high, omnipotent, good Lord, grant your people grace to renounce gladly the vanities of this world; that, following the way of blessed Francis, we may for love of you delight in your whole creation with perfectness of joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Please be seated.

The Second Lesson A Reading from the Book of Jeremiah

Jeremiah 22:13-16

Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms by injustice; who makes his neighbours work for nothing, and does not give them their wages; who says, ‘I will build myself a spacious house with large upper rooms’, and who cuts out windows for it, panelling it with cedar, and painting it with vermilion. Are you a king because you compete in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know me? says the LORD. The Word of the Lord

People: Thanks be to God.

Please stand and remain standing until the sermon begins.

Celtic Alleluia Sung by the Cantor and all repeat.

The Gospel Matthew 11:25-30 The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ According to Matthew People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Jesus said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. "Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. Celtic Alleluia (all repeat one verse)

Please be seated for the sermon.

Sermon The Rev. Gini Gerbasi, Rector Please stand for the Creed.

Presentation Hymn OLD HUNDRETH

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

THE HOLY COMMUNION

Eucharistic Prayer A

The people remain standing.

The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give our thanks and praise. The Celebrant proceeds

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth. Because you are greatly glorified in the assembly of your saints. All your creatures praise you, and you faithful servants bless you, confessing before the rulers of this world the great Name of your only Son.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

Sanctus LAND OF REST

The people may stand or kneel as the celebrant continues.

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had

fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ,

your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to

reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and

offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread;

and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take,

eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and

said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you

and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance

of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Christ has died.

Christ is risen.

Christ will come again.

The Celebrant continues

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and

thanksgiving. recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the

holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully

receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day

bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. All this we ask through

your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all

honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.

And now, as our savior Jesus Christ has taught us, we are bold to say:

Making EVERYONE’S Spiritual Growth a Priority at St. John’s

RenewalWorks is a program to help congregations make spiritual growth a priority in everything we do. The program begins with an anonymous, confidential online survey called the Spiritual Life Inventory (or SLI), which explores the individuals’ spiritual life and the church’s role in supporting it. In order to help us learn as much as we can, we will be asking everyone over the age of 13 to answer the survey for him or herself. The survey is available now through October 1st.
