LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING SIRACH 38:1-8 LECTOR: LUKE TAYLOR STRITCH SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, CLASS OF 2024

Honor physicians for their services,     for the LORD created them; for their gift of healing comes from the Most High,     and they are rewarded by the king. The skill of physicians makes them distinguished,     and in the presence of the great they are admired. The LORD created medicines out of the earth,     and the sensible will not despise them. Was not water made sweet with a tree     in order that its power might be known? And the LORD gave skill to human beings     that God might be glorified in marvelous works. By them, the physician heals and takes away pain;     the pharmacist makes a mixture from them. God’s works will never be finished;     and from God, health spreads over all the earth. The lector proclaims the reading, concluding with: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM PSALM 31 LECTOR: ABIGAIL HULIGANGA STRITCH SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, CLASS OF 2024

All respond with: O God, I put my life in Your hands.

Jesus was teaching in a synagogue on the Sabbath. And a woman was there who for eighteen years had been crippled by a spirit; she was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect. When Jesus saw her, he called to her and said, “Woman, you are set free of your infirmity.” He laid his hands on her, and she at once stood up straight and glorified God. The priest proclaims the Gospel, concluding with: The Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

A PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION WRITTEN BY SR. JUDITH M. KUBICKI

Lord Jesus Christ, you promised to be with your church always, until the end of time. We long to experience your presence more deeply and more intimately, even when we cannot gather in person as church to celebrate Eucharist. We believe that you are present when we gather in worship. We believe you are present in your sacred word when the Scriptures are proclaimed. And we believe you are present when your sacred Body and Blood become our food and drink. Our relationship with you is truly grace. When I am not able to be physically present at the Eucharist with the community, help me to strengthen and deepen my relationship with you as I seek to encounter and serve you, not only in prayer but in all I meet, especially in the poor and needy of our world. Amen.
