Welcome to:

How marketers are going to save the world.

Page 2: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Like a lot of people I have a collection.

Page 3: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Cardboard and markers

Page 4: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

The same tactics we use

Page 5: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Lots of A/B testing

Page 6: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Make us laugh

Page 7: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Honesty cuts through

Page 8: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

When in doubt, use a celebrity.

Page 9: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

If it’s working, stick with it.

Page 10: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

A friend made a movie about my odd collection.

Page 11: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Personalization is a two way street.

Page 12: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

My old sign.

Page 13: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Why the poopy face?

Page 14: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Have you heard these terms at all today?

Have you heard these terms at all today?

Imagine a stone dropping into a bucket

Today humanity uses the equivalent to 1.5 Earths to provide the resources we use and absorb our waste.

This makes sense

“On the issue of sustainability, some estimate that the total profits of the consumer goods industry could be wiped out in 30 years if no action is taken.”

Page 23: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

So why aren’t we all racing to these goals?

Page 24: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Another sign of the times

Page 25: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Dad said,

Page 26: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

What’s the social responsibility that comes with this kind of size and power?

Page 27: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

53 of the 100 largest economies on earth are corporations.

More than half.

Page 28: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

The inequality in the distribution of wealth, property and salary is the largest it’s been since 1929.

Page 29: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

The corporations we work for are protected as individuals in the eyes of the law.

Page 30: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

But they are “limited responsibility” individuals.

They can kill and at most what they can expect is a fine.

Page 31: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Today corporately funded special interests regularly advance their agenda over the overwhelming opposition of the people.

GMOs.

Page 32: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Corporations are incapable of feeling concern about their children or grandchildren.

Page 33: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

So what’s to keep this giant, rich and powerful, psychopathic individual from doing harm?

Page 34: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

I see two possibilities:

• You

• Your customers/citizens)

Page 35: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Since corporations have no soul, no conscience, no dreams for future generations. We will have to use yours and your customers.

"I don't think our fiduciary duty is to put shareholders first. I say the opposite. What we firmly believe is that if we focus our company on improving the lives of the world's citizens and come up with genuine sustainable solutions, we are more in synch with consumers and society.”

Marketers are at the front lines of a new capitalist revolution. Between citizen consumers and corporations.

Page 39: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

This again.

Page 40: Open Brand Summit: Alex Bogusky

Please don’t think I’m telling you what to do.

I don’t know what to do.

French resistance

WWDD?

This is not the end of the story.
