With the upcoming release of the new film by Nicolas

Winding Refn approaching, create a promotional

campaign and identity for the film, premiere plus any

special screenings.

- Fans of Director and Actors/Actresses- Thriller/revenge/western/neo-noir fans- Cinema goers- Above the age of 18- Film Fanatics

Only God Forgives is a revenge story set in Bangkok.

An American mobster (Ryan Gosling) who has made a

place for himself in Thailand seeks vengeance over the

death of his brother by a corrupt police officer (Vathaya

Pansringarm).

I aim to create a promotional campaign and identity for

the new film by Director Nicolas Winding Refn, ‘Only

God Forgives’(2013). This will be achieved by taking

the films title and tagline ‘Time to Meet the Devil’ in

their literal religious contexts by using light and heat

sensitive processes to hide ‘the Devil’ conceptually and

visually within the work itself. God = Light, Devil =

Dark.

The project initially started with research into the film

genre ‘film noir’. Due to its nature this informed my

process research into ones concerning light.

Nicolas Winding Refn makes films in the style of ‘neo

noir’. With it not yet released it allowed me to create

an identity for the film without being influenced by

existing campaigns.

04 Processes have been carried through from my research

and used to translate my concept into a visual form.

THERMOCROMIC

INVISIBLE UV

Used on the daylight text. Two possible conceptual

connotations. One being god is forgiving, it returns no

matter how many times it is touched/heated. The second

being th hotter it gets the more god fades giving me a

transition from god, to nothing, to the devil. Would also

be best suited to the climate the film is set.

Used in order to hide a message which is only revealed

in the dark or at night under artificial UV light. Reflects

the context of movie(neon signs in downtown Bangkok,

the devil being hidden within the designs and the devil

being associated with darkness.
