CIDC – Activities 6th CIDC Vishwakarma Awards 2014

New Delhi, 7th March, 2014: The 6th CIDC Vishwakarma awards were held at a glittering ceremony on 7th March 2014 at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Center, New Delhi.

This year, a total of 106 awardees were chosen and distributed trophies, medals and certificates in eleven prime categories such as Achievement Award for Industry Doyen, Achievement Award for Social Development & Impact, , Achievement Award for Public Officer, Achievement Award for Academician, Technologist, Scientist, Innovator, Best Professionally Managed Company, Achievement Award for Best Construction Projects, Achievement Award for Best News Magazine, Achievement Award for Best Journalist, Achievement Award for Best News Paper, Achievement Award for Construction Health, Safety & Environment, Achievement Award for Construction Skill Development, Achievement Award for Construction Education. Achievement Award for Artisans & Supervisors.

In line with tradition of honoring our Construction Industry Captains who have made significant contribution to the construction domain, this year, Late Dr. A. Ramakrishna, former Board Member of L & T and Vice Chairman of CIDC, was posthumously awarded the Special Jury Award for Life Time Achievement.

The Chief Guest for the ceremony Shri V. K. Gupta, Director General, Central Public Works Department, who was also the Chairman of the Jury, for the 6th CIDC Vishwakarma Awards, lauded the efforts of CIDC for its role towards improvement & betterment of the Construction Industry. He made a special mention of CIDC’s efforts for training of grass root construction workers and for its encouragement to small construction companies and individual entrepreneurial firms and focusing on skill development. Shri Gupta emphasized the role of construction as an all pervading activity and encouraged the awardees.

The CIDC Vishwakarma awards are inspired by the spirit of construction and creation patronized by Lord Vishwakarma the ruling deity of the Construction practices in India. Each year, this event is hosted on 7th of March by CIDC, the apex body that’s dedicated to work relentlessly towards promoting best practices within the Indian Construction Industry.

At the Annual CIDC Vishwakarma Awards, the work and achievements of individuals and organizations is recognized and applauded. The awards are an embodiment of encouraging truly successful efforts from individuals and organizations that have made a mark on the present Indian Construction Industry in terms of delivering better outputs, processes and creating higher benchmarks for construction industry to help in nation building.

Womens’ participation is always encouraged and the awardees this year included: Ms. Alpa R. Sheth (Chairman & Managing Director, Vakil Mehta Sheth), Ms. E. Jayashree Kurup (Head Content & Research, Times Business Solutions Limited) etc.

Attended by over 750 people, CIDC Vishwakarma Award is fast becoming an epitome for motivating individuals and organizations to raise their performance in their specific domain leading to significant contribution for the growth & development of the Indian Construction Industry. The objective of the awards are to recognize and honor the valuable contributions and work of Indian Construction Fraternity that has significantly enriched the construction domain and has helped bring about a change in our construction practices.

7th March is also the CIDC Annual Day and is celebrated every year with CIDC Vishwakarma Awards. This year a total of 22 CIDC Partners in Progress Trophies were also given away as a token of appreciation to honor organizations that have been CIDC’s partners in progress and who have displayed their utmost commitment and drive to create a vibrant work environment for the construction fraternity especially for achieving targets of “Mission Skilling India”. Their efforts were applauded and the spirit and support extended to CIDC for facilitating initiatives for growth and empowerment of our unsung heroes - the grass root construction workers encouraged.

The main highlight of this award is the practice of awarding artisans who are the unsung heroes of Construction Industry, who work tirelessly to create the wonderful assets that benefit the entire nation. This year, totally 19 artisans and 21 supervisors were awarded with commemorative trophy, Medal and Certificate in various trades. These artisans are working on diverse projects across the nation. The uniqueness of the CIDC Vishwakarma Awards is reflected in its recognition of contributions made by individuals such as grass root construction workers, artisans who often belong to marginalized sections and economically and socially weaker sections of the society.

Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), the apex body set up by the Planning Commission & the Construction Industry recognizes the role of a national award for motivation and improved performance of Individual Workers, Artisans, Field Supervisors, Project Owners, Project Implementers and has conceived the CIDC Vishwakarma Awards as an award of Excellence.

Vocational-cum-Academic Integrated Program in “Construction Supervision (Civil)”

Session 2014 – 2015

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), established by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India and Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), established by the Planning Commission, Govt. of India, with its countrywide network of training centres, now provides the opportunity for all persons working or otherwise engaged elsewhere to acquire skills in Construction Trades and Allied Courses which will provide gainful opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. CIDC jointly with NIOS is offering the following course through Open learning mode. Such candidates may simultaneously join 12th Class academic courses with NIOS: Course : Construction Supervision (Civil) Duration : Min. 6 months/ Max. 5 years (Theory classes- 60 hrs & Practical-240 hrs) Min. Qualification : 10th Pass Min. Age : 18 years Fees : Rs.12,500/- Prospectus & Form : Rs.50/- Admission Last date for receipt of completed applications: 30th June, 2014 Course commencement : 1st July, 2014 Students can give their exam once every six months as per schedule laid down by NIOS. 9 chances are given in 5 years to clear the course.

Fees can be paid by way of demand draft of Rs.12,550/- favouring “Construction Industry Development Council ” payable at New Delhi.

Admission form along with the fees can be submitted at CIDC Centres before the closing date.

CIDC – Activities Celebration of Holi in Gorakhpur Center:

The festival of HOLI was celebrated in Gorakhpur center. In morning, trainees and staff enjoyed the colorful HOLI in very joyful, cheerful and friendly environment. In evening, the all CIDC team visited to nearby areas to interact and meet the local people.

Inauguration OIL 2nd Batch:

The second batch of training under OIL scheme was inaugurated on 05th March 2014. The trainees from Tinsukia and Dibrugarh District of Assam have joined the training. Total 50 trainees are in GWS, Electrician, Plumber, Welder trades.

Prabhat Pheri: Trainees with staff of Gorakhpur Center are organizing Prabhat Pheri on every Saturday to develop awareness in

society and inculcate good habits in trainees. The theme of the Prabhat Pheri organized on 22nd March 2014 was environmental protection and conservation of natural resources. The CIDC team covered 5 villages on that day and discussed the environmental issues with local people, conveyed them about the different measures to protect and conserve the environment.

CIDC - Training activities Under CIDC-RECL training centre in Shivpuri (MP), 521 candidates have completed their training and 361

candidates have been placed in different construction companies. In latest work-order of 200 candidates, 140 candidates have completed their training and 102 candidates have been placed. Last batch of 60 candidates are under training.

Under CIDC-PFCL Phase-II training program, 954 candidates have completed their training and 403 have been placed in different construction companies. 69 candidates have completed their training on 31st March 2014.

Site training for the workers of Raheja Developers is being conducted at Gurgaon.

Under CIDC-HUDCO Training program, batch of 65 candidates are getting training at CIDC Training centre at Ghaziabad for the candidates of Raghunathganj (Murshidabad) West Bengal.

Under CIDC-OIL Training program, 201 candidates of Tinsukia & Dibrugarh District, Assam are getting training at CIDC Training centre Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Sidhauli (Sitapur), Ramshapur, Phulnakhra and CIDC VKP Faridabad And 51 candidates are getting on job training in Shobha Developers Ltd, Bangalore.

Under TNSDM training program, 1432 candidates have been trained and another 360 candidates are under training & around more than 800 candidates will start their training at Tanjore from next week.
