The cognitive surplus

The Great Spare-Time Revolution:

Web 2.0 and social technology enables ordinary citizens to pool their free time for activities they like and care about instead of using their free time to sleep in front of the television set

The cognitive surplus

Clay Shirky:

"We can do a back-of-the-envelope calculation, for example, using Wikipedia, to see how far we still have to go. All the articles, edits, and arguments about articles and edits represent around 100 million hours of human labor. That’s a lot of time. But remember: Americans watch about 200 billion hours of TV every year.”

Self-promoting and self-branding

Christian Have:

"Today, the main focus in the annual employee development interview is salery, duties, responsibilities and influence over your daily work. But in the future it will also be about the employees possibilities for exposure and developing personal brand?"

Lesson learned

A lot of participation by Librarians - User participation is a supplement

Focus on interaction and communication It's hard to motivate users if the purpose isn't clear

Good 2.0 services are typically based on traditional library subjects 2.0 brands that stands out for themselves are a success

Good idea to implement 2.0 services as a combination between the physical and the virtual library
