TRANSCRIPT
Davis Partnership Architects provides comprehensive project planning, design and management services to institutional, corporate, governmental and private clients. As one of the largest, most prominent multi-disciplinary design firms in the Rocky Mountain West, our professional staff offers a full scope of architectural services as well as planning/urban design, landscape architecture, interior design, tenant development, lighting design and environmental graphics/signage. The firm’s diverse skills attract commissions for a wide range of building types at a national level, with particular expertise in commercial, mixed-use, healthcare, higher education, residential and cultural facilities. An interdisciplinary approach drives our talented staff of 175 architects, landscape architects, interior designers and graphics talent to work cooperatively as a single team. We sincerely strive to understand each client’s unique needs, then respond with design solutions which successfully integrate the building, its site and interiors into a singular, sustainable solution.
Our comprehensive technological capabilities also play a large part in the efficient, accurate and timely execution of projects. Using the most current Building Information Modeling [BIM] software available, supported by complementary 3D rendering and graphics technology, our design teams integrate and share concepts through coordinated three-dimensional, virtual models and animations. These advanced technologies allow our teams to optimize designs and solve potential problems before they arise in the field and to keep our performance standards at the highest level possible. Because we believe a consistently high level of service and performance are our most important differentiators, our exceptional rate of 92% repeat clients is the key to Davis Partnership Architect’s 123 years of stability and profitability.
Recently named “Firm of the Year” by both the American Institute of Architect’s Colorado and Denver Chapters, and the recipient of the AIA Colorado Innovative Practices Award and the AIA Technology in Architectural Practice BIM Award, Davis Partnership Architects has been acknowledged with more than 60 design and innovation awards over the last decade. Our designs have also graced numerous magazine covers and been featured in local, national and global media in various publications around the world.
Davis Partnership ArchitectsONE OF THE FEW MULTIDISCIPLINARY DESIGN FIRMS IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN WEST
In early 2013 Davis Partnership Architects’ completed an exercise to define “Why” we do what we do, what drives us, and what we contribute in the world. The result of the process was our “Why” statement. Constructed of four distinct elements, individually they are meaningful, but when merged they generate an unique harmony!
• Together we are driven,... Egalitarian, Collaborative, Commitment, Passionate, Support
• To create spaces that inspire,... Innovation, Aspiration, Spirit, Transcendence
• Elevating the joy and dignity,... Fun, Uplifting, Inspirational, Hope• Of the Human experience,... Environmental, Visceral, Livable,
Sustainable, Memorable
After understanding the Why, we considered the How. From this the foundation of our practice was born and became known as the 5 Pillars. They represent our unwavering commitment to ourselves, those we serve, and the communities that we influence.
• People - Fostering a culture of trust, respect, and empowerment• Firm - Stewardship of the firms legacy • Design - Elegant Solutions• Client - Journeying with Clients• Community - Responsibility to Community
“TOGETHER WE ARE DRIVEN TO CREATE PLACES THAT INSPIRE,
ELEVATING THE JOY AND DIGNITY OF THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE.”PEOPLE COMMUNITYFIRM DESIGN CLIENT

Brian Erickson’s design approach, personal style and integrity stand out as a few of his most valued professional traits among many. As a professional who appreciates the often complex process of “building design and construction,” Brian’s ability to transform intricate details and fast-track schedules into a thoughtful interpretation of each client’s vision, is a rare talent indeed.
Brian’s life and work experiences have shaped his approach to architectural design and view
of the world. Schooled in the United States and Italy, his European travel and immersion in classical architecture have provided him with an inherent refined sense of scale and proportion which he carries within him today. As an architect who has also practiced in a variety of settings across the country, Brian an appropriate response to context, regional climate, and readily available materials results in a design that is not only genuine, but cost effective and programmatically sustainable.” In other words, infusing a sense of legacy into a project is a passion for him, especially when balanced with his on-time, on-budget rigor and discipline.
Brian’s high level of personal involvement in the design and details of each of his projects, dedication to each client, depth of insight into design possibilities, perseverance and personal commitment in the face of the inevitable challenges, and range of project types and experience makes him an exceedingly well-rounded advocate and team player on any project where learning, exploring or discovering life are involved.

Collin has over 15-years of design experience ranging from branding to interactive to environmental and wayfinding with one key thread running through them all: focus on the people using the space. It’s a practice that has shown success for clients and the spaces they are creating as well as for the people experiencing them, creating environments that are more useful, engaging, and therefore enjoyable for everyone. But focusing on practicality is only one aspect of design and emotions play a huge role in how people
experience and reflect upon places. Ever expanding on his Master’s thesis, Collin has been focusing on catering to both the practical and the emotional aspects of design to create the best holistic solutions for all the people involved with each aspect of a project, and eventually, design solution.

Considered a ‘state of the art’ student recreation facility in 1971, growth in student population and demand resulted in a 30 percent deficit in square footage per student based on NIRSA guidelines. Driven by an overwhelmingly supported student referendum to fund a $63 million expansion and renovation project through an increase in tuition, the university selected the team of Davis Partnership Architects and CannonDesign to work with students and recreation center staff to create a facility commensurate with the aspirations of a major university located in an active and health conscious community.
Beyond additions totaling 93,000 SF meeting students’ functional priorities for additional wood courts and fitness/cardio space, project goals included creating a more accessible and inviting experience throughout a highly sustainable building that would achieve LEED ‘Platinum’ Certification and ‘near net-zero’ energy utilization – a tall order for a 215,000 SF facility built forty years ago. From the start, the design team focused on integrating concepts and systems that would reduce energy consumption. As one example, the original second floor ice rink was causing on-going maintenance problems, part of our team’s solution was to build a new rink addition at grade, creating an opportunity to
re-distribute the waste heat from the new ice systems through a recovery loop to heat the indoor pool, pre-heat domestic hot water, serve the hydronic building heating loop and various other heat pumps before rejecting excess heat to the new outdoor pool. This and other critical design solutions brought the annual energy utilization down to below 37,000 BTU/SF.
The weight and fitness addition establishes a new main entry and imposes greater order to this sector of the campus by defining the edges of two quadrangles in contextually respectful manner. A new outdoor pool in the shape of the university’s buffalo mascot is sensitively nestled into the landscape adjacent to the existing natatorium and new addition with south and west solar exposure. And, a new 3-story climbing wall takes best advantage of the existing precipice on the north side of the building that overlooks the City of Boulder and the front-range. Internal re-organization and an invasive third floor addition through the main circulation area enliven the once dreary interior with daylight, movement, color and a greater sense of activity. The result is a facility in step with today’s collegiate level recreation center – one that adequately accommodates demand for activities in a highly social environment supported by a sustainable building.

University of Colorado Recreation Center Expansion & RenovationBOULDER, COLORADO
The University of Colorado at Boulder selected Davis Partnership Architects, in association with Centerbrook Architects and the Baker Group, to design a new $73 million dollar centerpiece for student life in the heart of Boulder’s historic campus. Completed in the Summer of 2010, the Center for Community replaces two outdated dining halls with a new 900-seat dining facility and centralized dining food service operations with capacity to feed 1.4 million meals annually. This project also features eight different restaurant-like venues, a coffee and pastry shop, a late night student gathering place, central campus commissary and bakery.
The Center for Community is located at the campus crossroads between the Farrand and Kittredge residential complexes and along the main path to/from Williams Village, ensuring that 1/3 of the 29,000 student population will pass this facility daily. This new facility includes 54,000 gsf
of new Student Service office space on the upper levels, centralizing 16 different student service programs currently scattered across campus, into a new information/service hub. Student service functions include the departments of Student Affairs, Counseling, Career Services, International Education, Multicultural Affairs, Academic Affairs, GLBTC, Ombuds, Disability Services, Card Office, and Pre-Collegiate. Departmental office suites overlooking the dining facility below wrap a central lightwell to increase daylighting opportunities and visually connect student service programs with the huge volume of students passing through.
375 underground parking spaces also position this building to be the new front door for prospective students seeking admissions, financial aid and counseling information in the adjacent Regent Hall. The Center for Community achieved LEED Platinum certification.

Davis Partnership was selected to perform the design services for improvements to Farrand Field, Franklin Field, Kittredge Fields, and to add basketball courts near the Coors Events Center as a part of a Recreation Field Improvement Project commissioned by the University of Colorado at Boulder. Together with a team of student representatives, staff from Recreation Services and Facilities Management, and other various campus stakeholders, we developed designs for the renovation of two significant campus fields and the addition of three new synthetic fields to meet student recreational needs.
Farrand Field is located in the heart of the campus and has long been considered one of the foremost student gathering places on the campus. With many eyes on the “central park” of the University’s Campus, Davis Partnership, in collaboration with the CU team, transformed this important but heavily used and worn-out green space into a dynamic, multi-purpose campus quadrangle. Uses of this central campus green range from casual everyday to intramural sports
to large gathering and big organized events. We reduced the slope of this quad to better accommodate recreational/intramural sports and large group events and surrounded it with sandstone walls for both retaining and seating. An old chain link fence enclosing the field was removed and replaced with a decorative steel fence with sandstone and entry portals at key locations. Gateways at three corners of the quad were developed to create visual and processional thresholds into the space as well as to disrupt the long-standing diagonal pedestrian cow paths across the green. New, wider sidewalks were placed around Farrand to better accommodate the existing pedestrian flows.
Located next to Folsom Field/Stadium, Franklin Field is an important intramural and recreational field that doubles as a place for tail-gating before football games. Davis Partnership provided upgrades to the turf, walkways, drainage and fencing surrounding this field to improve usability and the appearance of this highly visible facility.
Three new synthetic fields were designed in an existing intramural field area near one of the large student housing complexes on the campus. To accommodate the large number of students involved in intramurals and recreational sports, CU wanted to extend the daily and seasonal use time. With the addition of synthetic turf and stadium-type lights, these fields have significantly increased the time available for recreational use.
