“Legends, in other months, are done;

Of August, only gods and goddesses are born!”

Gods of August

Like the phoenix risen from the ashes

Our crown is burnished gold of glory

We fear not the raging fire

In our blood flows molten desire

Our rank defies little thinking

We break boundaries, remove rules

We change the course of history

We write tomorrow’s story

We are gods of undying glory!

7

“A life soon forgotten is a waste. Build your name and fame in the

future of men.”

RAIN DROPS IN AUGUST

Opeoluwa Olatunbosun

August 1

I was born out of pride

Into the world of lust

I am clean, sparkling white as the sky

I am a mighty hand of valour

I ride through the street in royal apparels of gold and purple

I am the iron fist, with fierce eyes, I conquer,

I have always conquered

For my mother was told of the birth of a great one

I am a god.

9

GOD OF WORDS

Jamiu Ahmed Adewale Alade

August 8

My mouth is a volcano with wide crater,

Eruption of a blazing fire of a heating truth,

That melt iron heart like ice in a scorching sun,

Hell upon hell, like Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines,

Unquenchable dreams flaming high aloft the sky.

My mind is the massive firmament; heavenly home,

Where the sun shines for days to behold its bright light,

The moon light at night to frighten darkness off its notch,

The stars form constellations of thoughts; a powerful tool,

I am a god of words with words that will change the world.

10

MY SONG

Mosobalaje M. Abimbola

August 12

I am the god-song,

sung by strangers by the rivers of Babylon

-the taste of freedom.

The peace conceived in the belly of victory.

Mine is a history that can paint pages

in salty sprays, but with hope.

I am the miracle;

of how a king was born in the palace

of dreams and made in the paradise of his world.

My song is, here is home.

11

I AM A GOD!

Olaniyi Ololade

August 14

I 've written myself into drugs of healing,

that when you're ill, I will be there to heal.

All gods are healers, but not all healers are gods.

I am a god that heals the fainting soul,

the fading flower and the dying city.

In the day, I’m there as the shimmering sun,

in the night, I’m there as the gleaming moon

that heals your darkness.

Never write me down with mere eyes,

for I’m not a mere man,

I’m a god - great healer.

12

GOD OF AUGUST

Regnard Bishoza

August 14

Ask and I will surely tell

Mouth tells, truth dwells

Smiling stars live,

Sway on king of fortune

August god, fortune moon.

I am genius, a brilliant one

Like hibiscus blossom

I am living in paradise

In the most high kingdom

Reigning to raise sky.

13

GOD OF AUGUST

Osusu Jeremiah

August 15

Oh! Sing praises to my name!

Let me conquer your world with my words.

I bring to you joy never ending.

All ye need to celebrate with me,

Because this is my month.

The chosen just for the gods,

with golden blood that run through my veins.

If there is to be another better

Thank August, it would, same time next year.

Let's make merry with sacrifice of a poet from the finest of writers.

This is my month, in which I am well pleased.

14

“The birth of mere mortals signals no news

When gods arrive, men build shrine and monuments”

15

I AM ROYAL

Phenol Daniel

August 18

Star of the eighth moon,

I am all suave.

My beauty, like my attitude,

Is humble and loyal, I am royal.

At my nativity, she cried.

But today I am her sky,

Her sun, her star, and her cloud,

From where rains her joy,

With which they dare not toy.

16

GOD OF AUGUST

Bashir Abubakar

August 18

I am a god of August

In the planet of artistes

Catch the fun of solace

From the mind, modest.

To honour the right moment

Without any postponement

To illuminate the day of poets

With the words of talents.

17

I AM

Joseph Adekunle

August 18

I am the Light that glows in darkness

The Voice of hope in the wilderness

I am the Silencer of the alarm of danger

Which puts an end to boiling anger

So, rise to join the force

To celebrate with the Voice

I come with rain

To flourish plants of the great terrain

I am he who is great

Join me or burn in your hate

18

BEHOLD, YOUR GOD!

Funso Oris

August 18

Harken to the voice of my godessence

I am the crown of the gods

The eye of Eedua, sight that pierces the hidden mysteries of the heart

Not an echo of meager minds and fettered fertility

I am the voice over destinies, the shaper of futures

I live by tomorrow, the flowing stream of upward influence

At the village square, where gods and men gather in reverence

There I hold court of gods, and men who fall in obeisance

I speak that which the gods fear to mutter

I speak that which happens without falter

I am your dream fulfilled – utter!

19

“Write your story on the minds of men;

Let gods publish your glory on the pages of eternity!”

MY STORY; MY GLORY

Timileyin Gabriel Olajuwon

August 25

"Only time heals broken heart"

Life, despite is pretty cruel, yet

Amidst competing odds, eddies of tears

Just as the morning sun, I rise to shine

Unfolding as a flower of many colors, and

Whatever life brings to one, thus I know

Only time heals broken heart, for there is

No glory without a story –

And mine shall be a glorious history.

21

I’M A GOD

Bamigbola Silas

August 27

I'm an enormous tree

Of healthy and wealthy branches

And green leaves on which

Birds perch their nest

And animals find their shelters under.

And from me the worlds, their fruits, they pluck.

My bark; a mysterious medicine

Used crumb by crumb,

That heals the souls of men;

For I'm a god.

22

GOD OF AUGUST

Quadri Adekunle Adeoti

August 28

Miles of cold fur, under my feet, quake my mind,

Searching in the hay of thoughts, how he had crowned,

The tranquil moon and its shivery sky,

A month of glittering gold that buys my smile,

O August god of the silent shore!

Gleaming sky, such that heaven allows,

Beautiful and stout for poets to magnify,

Would you sigh and desire to woe?

These gods come and go, but you are alive,

The search for thee crown ends at your door.

23

THE EIGHT SEED

Oki Kehinde Julius

August 31

We're the gods of august

Moulded by creator from the dust.

The yielding seeds of Augustus

That bloom out the fruit of happiness & love.

We're the eighth seed

That can't be trampled by the weed.

The forerunner of "ember months

That silences the rain for the sun.

We're the legendary august born

Welcomed into the world by gongs and talking drum.

The End
