Volunteering and VisitingThere are many opportunities for parents to

volunteer in our kindergarten classrooms. Some opportunities include planning parties,

going on field trips, helping with various projects, helping the teachers in class by preparing

materials, copying, or working with individual students and/or small groups. Your child’s

teacher will contact families regarding these volunteer opportunities. Kindergarten

teachers will allow time for the students to adjust to the new routine prior to setting up volunteer schedules.

We love having parents visit our school! We do ask that if you would like to come and visit

your child’s class, please make arrangements with your child’s teacher so a time can be

arranged. We allow approximately a month for children to adjust to the new school

environment prior to scheduling parent helpers in the classroom. After this time, you may also choose to join your child for lunch in the cafeteria. That is a very

fun experience for our students!

Health and Wellness*What if my child is sick?: Parents are required to notify the school office when a student is absent. Please phone the attendance line at (317) 896-4701 by 9:00 am each day that your child is absent. Failure to inform the school will result in your child’s absence as being counted as unexcused. Please note, your child must be fever free, (99.7 and below) without medication for at least 1 full school day after being sent home with a fever.*Our School Nurse, Mrs. Langenkamp: Our school nurse maintains health records on each student in our school. The school enrollment package will provide a place for parents to note special health concerns such as diabetes, asthma, allergies, etc. It is the responsibility of the parent to keep this information current. All medications that need to be given to a child (prescription and non-prescription) must be in the original container, including cough drops. A prescription label must be current and with the correct directions on administering the medication to the child. A parent/guardian must bring the medication in themselves. A ‘permission for medication administration form’ must be completed by the parent/guardian and be on file before any medications can be given to your child. Specific, school-provided medications may be given by the nurse during school hours upon completion of the form by the parents or guardians. Should your child become ill or injured during the school day, our school nurse will notify you immediately.*Health and Wellness Policy for Birthday Celebrations: Our health and wellness program, which started in 2007, continues to evolve and strive to maintain healthy students and staff members. We have made this happen by celebrating birthdays with non-food related activities. You may feel free to come in and eat lunch with your child in the cafeteria. The classroom teacher might sing a special song or play a special game.
