A Message from Mrs. Lynch
Be sure to ask your children about our special visitor today! This is an annual tradition that I just love! Ian, the bagpiper, has been helping us celebrate St. Patrick’s Day since our first year in 2001!
Please check out the information on the district volleyball tournament that supports Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. It is being held next Wednesday, March 22nd and is a great family fun evening with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Each school will have a team of staff members competing in the volleyball tournament.
On Thursday and Friday next week we will be welcoming many grandparents and special
friends to Oak Trace. Please be sure to refer to the information in the newsletter regarding the
dates and times. Please remember that we have so many visitors on these two days, we cannot
have visitors during lunch, and ask that visitors please not take the students out for lunch. This
year we will be opening up parking in the back of the building due to construction. If your
child’s grandparent is visiting 2nd-4th graders, please have them park in the back lot and enter
through the back doors. There will be greeters there to help. We will also dismiss the afternoon
sessions a little early this year and ask that if you would like for your child to leave school with
his/her visitor, to please submit the form or a note giving permission for this to happen. Thank
you for your understanding. Next Thursday we also have the fourth grade performance, Deliri-
um, A Travel Through Indiana History.
I hope to see everyone at the Underground Railroad Walk and Run on Saturday morning.
Have a great weekend enjoying the start of March
Madness!

ART
Hello Oak Trace Families! We have been doing some great work in the art
room this March.
Kindergarten is learning about patterns for their Patterned Fish project. We
have learned how to do wax resist with crayons and watercolor paints for our
background and will start working on our fish next week.
First Grade just got finished learning about the artist Keith Haring. We made
movable figures to trace and color on our artwork.
Second Grade has just started learning about the artist Frida Kahlo. Kahlo is
most well known for her interesting self portraits. Students will be applying
what they learn to the creation of their own self portrait.
Third Grade has just finished their project about Georgia O'Keefe. They are now glazing their clay pock-
ets which they made earlier this year.
Fourth Grade is learning about Op Art and optical illu-
sions. We are looking at different ways to create these illu-
sions in art and they will be making their own Op Art Cube
with different examples.
With it being cold season, we are down to only one box of
tissues in the art room. If you have an extra box to spare I
would really appreciate the donation.
PE ZONE
All 3rd and 4th grade students will begin
roller skating during the week of April 10th.
Please be sure to have your child wear socks
that are mid-calf and thicker for com-
fort. I can't wait to get rolling!!
The Underground Railroad Run and Health
Fair is Saturday, March 18th at 8:00
a.m. This is always a great event for fami-
lies. Stop by the High School and check it
out.
As always, have a FITastic weekend.
Library
We have spent the last few weeks getting to "know" our upcoming visiting author, Kate
Klise, during our library times! We know that she lives in Missouri, her older sister, Sarah,
is her illustrator, and she started writing stories when she was little, because they had a
"rule" that they had to MAKE their gifts, rather than buying them, for one another when
they were growing up! We have also read several of her picture books and a chapter, or so,
from her different chapter books! I would say it is safe to say that our kids are "hooked"
on her books! The ones that I have in our library do not stay on the shelves and students
are bringing in their orders each day! Please note that the last return date for Kate
Klise orders is Thursday, March 30th! I had accidentally put April 3, but...we will not be
here!!! Also, feel free to send in any of her books that you might already own or if you pur-
chase them somewhere else, please send them in with a sticky note of who they should be
signed to!
Happy Reading!
Mrs. Lane
