It has always been difficult to find the right words at the right time. This said, it is also difficult
to just simply say something to the other partner, which is also true for BSCOC members.
Below are just a few examples of sentences which you will most likely never hear
Difficult sentences for BSCOC guys to say:
1. "I love you." (to the wife, not the car)
2. "No, I’m not going to work on the car tonight."
3. "I think I'm lost. Let’s stop and ask for directions."
4. "Buy whatever you want, I don’t need any parts for the car”
5. "Hugh Heffner is NOT the luckiest son of a bitch in the world."
Difficult sentences for BSCOC women to say:
1. "No. Thank you for the offer but I have enough shoes."
2. "Yes, she is prettier than me."
3. "I am wrong."
4. "Are you sure you have all the parts you need for your car?"
5. "Go ahead, buy another classic car."

HAPPY MOTORING Jean Hansen

OHNE FLEIß, KEIN PREIS Kein „Autojumble“ ohne BSCOC
6
einziger Oldtimermesse gehen stets monatelange
Aston Martin DB4 (Claude Konrath)
Jaguar C-Type (Goy Feltes)
Jaguar MkIV 1.5 Liter (Claude Betzen)
Lotus Europa (Marc Lenert)
„Autojumble“ ferner vom Hotel Sofitel in Luxemburg-
Messehalle befestigte rote Teppich!

THE COBWEBRUN IN MARCH Dust off the cobwebs after a long, long winter…
10

THE BSCOC SPORTS CAR DAYS
The president's speech.
Gentlemen, start your engines!
The road book 2012 is handed out to the competitors by the president himself with a cloud of a tasty cigar…what else?

vorziehen.
Imbissbuden holen.
Claude Feyereisen
At the arrival of the Tour, the members of the BSCOC were welcomed
with a glass of champagne or a glass of Spanish wine.

SUMMERTOUR Bitte (e)in Bit…
In
28
Spiele in London hin…?
Leder. Bei so viel Leichtbau wäre Colin Chapman
todsicher begeistert gewesen.
Holz als „God’s own plastic“.

“SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED”
Fifty years of Bond cars
From the hidden basement of MI6 emerged many different forms of transportation which “Q”
masterly re-engineered to help James save the world. Boats, Helicopters, Hydroplanes, you
name it, Q produced it.
But 007 has always been closest associated not only with beautiful ladies that he court-shipped,
but mostly to the cars that he had available to chase the villains. And the villains also had a
large choice of vehicles available; from Alfa Romeos to Saabs, almost everything that was fast
and evil looking. Although there were so many different cars, it seems appropriate that the
accent should lie on British made cars, not just because of James, but mostly because of the
BSCOC members.
The most famous 007 car by far is
the Aston Martin DB5 which
featured in six movies (Goldfinger,
Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow
Never Dies, Casino Royale, as well as
in the forthcoming Skyfall).
Although Ian Fleming had placed
Bond in a DB Mark III in the
Goldfinger novel, a car designed
specifically for racing and thus unlikely that Bond would drive one, the DB5 was the company's
latest model when the film was being made and thus better adapted for a secret agent. It
should be noted that the DB3 was the only gadget-laden vehicle to be mentioned by Fleming in
a Bond novel, disposing of switches to alter the color of the front and rear lights, reinforced
steel bumpers, a pistol in a trick compartment as well as a homing device similar to that of the
DB5 in the movie. The car used in the film was the original DB5 prototype, with another
standard car used for stunts. The prototype
with the chassis number DP/216/1 was later
stripped of its weaponry and gadgetry by
Aston Martin and then resold. It was then
retrofitted by subsequent owners with non-
original weaponry. The Chassis DP/216/1 DB5
30
was stolen in 1997
from its last owner in
Florida and is
currently still missing.
The same car
(registration BMT
216A) was used a year
later in Thunderball.
A different DB5
(registration BMT
214A) was used in the 1995 Bond film, GoldenEye, in which three different DB5s were used for
filming. The BMT 214A also returned in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) but another DB5
appeared in Casino Royale (2006) with Bahamian number plates and left-hand drive (where the
previous British versions had been right-hand drive). Another silver-birch DB5 with the
original registration BMT 216A will appear in the 23rd James Bond Film, Skyfall. Bond also had
a DBS in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service available, which reappeared briefly in Q’s
headquarters in Diamonds are forever. In The Living Daylights, James disposed of a Vantage V8
Volante with all the usual refinements, including extending side outriggers, spike-producing
tires, missiles, lasers, signal-intercepting smart radio, head-up display and rocket propulsion. It
could also self-destruct when primed.
Now James did drive his BMW’s for three consecutive movies but, honestly, a British spy needs
a British car, and Bond was handed over an V12 Vanquish in Die Another Day with an ejector
31
seat, followed by a DBS V12 in Casino Royale as well as a darker version in Quantum of Solace,
which was completely destroyed after an record breaking 7 barrel-roll in the opening scene
Interestingly enough is the fact that Bond’s official car in the Ian Fleming novels was a 1933
Bentley convertible MKIV. The car featured a 4,5l engine with an Amherst Villiers supercharger
and was James personal car with him working on it as a hobby. However, a Mark IV never
existed from Bentley and this appellation seems to have been created by Ian Fleming. Bond
also disposed of a Bentley Mark VI as well as a Bentley Mark II Continental in the novels,
although this never appeared in the films as his cars.
Other British made cars which
appeared in the movies range from a
Triumph Stag, an MGB, Leyland Sherpa
van, a Range Rover Classic convertible
to an Austin FX4 taxi, Rover 800, or the
green Jaguar XKR equipped with front
grille machine guns, door panel
missiles and boot mounted mortars,
driven in Die Another Day.
One other car which benefited from appearing in a James Bond movie was the infamous Lotus
Esprit. The white S1 in The Spy who loved me was capable of transforming into a submarine. In
this mode, it is equipped with anti-aircraft missiles.
Two Esprits Turbos featured in For your Eyes only with the first one, a white model driven by
Bond in Spain being destroyed when a thug trips its self-destruct system by breaking the driver's
side window.
32
The second one was a red model driven by
Bond at a ski resort in Northern Italy. Contrary
to popular belief, these two were not repainted
Essex-spec Turbo Esprits but specially
commissioned cars.
Bond, as well as his villains, all benefited from
marvelous cars which today have become
legends. There were just too many to be able to
list them here.
However, one anorak fact has to be written: the very first car that James ever drove on screen was
in Dr. No and no, it wasn’t British, it was American of all things: a Chevrolet BelAir convertible.
I bet that got you all stirred, and not shaken!

GOODWOOD REVIVAL 2012
“Absolutely marvelous” would be a typical English expression, “awesome” would be the
American way, and “fantastic” most likely the French term that would be used. But
whatever choice you have, the 16 BSCOC members who participated at this year’s
Goodwood Revival from the 14th until the 16th of September will carry on for many years
talking about what has got to be the best Classic Car festival in the world.
The idea was initially launched during a committee meeting in July of last year; what could be
offered to our members which would be different from the normal weekend excursions. It was
clear from the beginning that we would be heading across the channel. But where to? Beaulieu
Autojumble, Presott Hillclimb, or why not to the Goodwood Revival.
According to the estate of Lord March, “the Goodwood Revival really is a magical step back in
time, a unique chance to revel in the glamour and allure of motor racing in the romantic time
capsule of the world’s most authentic
motor circuit. The Revival is the
world’s most popular historic motor
race meeting and the only event of its
kind to be staged entirely in the
nostalgic time capsule of the 1940s, 50s
and 60s.” As such, the decision was easy,
more difficult was the organization. As
we knew that Goodwood receives 150.000 visitors over the weekend, it was clear that hotels
would have to be organized straight away. Surprisingly, in October of 2011, it was already
impossible to find any rooms, especially if you wanted to have your participants all under one
roof. As such, the Queen’s Hotel in Portsmouth, some 20 miles away from the circuit, was pre-
reserved. For those of you who might be fan of Mr. Bean, the sketch “Room 426” was filmed in
this very hotel.
As the Revival sells out quickly and can only be preordered, tickets were bought by January
after 16 members had signed up. All that was left to do was the organization of the ferry, and
basically getting there.
34
We left on the Thursday at 07h30, after everyone had received a detailed roadbook with all the
instructions, calculating in a day for travelling and allowing a nice time margin so as not to
miss the ferry.
Well, that was probably the best idea, as
within 20 km of leaving Luxembourg at
7h30 in the morning, our valued
President’s car broke down. Now,
BSCOC members always foresee enough
spares in case of…..! After all, if it falls
off it must be British engineering. But a
broken petrol pump? Yes, even one of
those was available; Pollo really did
think of everything.After a short 27
minute repair job, off we were to
Dunkirk, making it just in time to be on
the 14h00 Ferry. Getting to Portsmouth
was a breeze; no traffic on the notorious
M25 and by 19h00 we were in the pub.
Now, the Revival is known for its retro look, meaning that 150.000 people, with the exception
of a few exotics, came in period style dress from the 30’s into the hippie years. And so did our
16 participants!
35
Off we went on the Friday morning according to a strict scheduled laid down. It’s amazing how
disciplined everyone was, and we left on the minute.
Getting close to Goodwood, traffic became denser and it must have been the first time for all of
us being stuck in an Oldtimer traffic jam. Everywhere you looked, there were classic cars. But
Goodwood being organized as it is, and us having privileged parking tickets, we were parked
and on site in no time.
What a site! Just the parking lot reserved for classic cars was amazing. There must have been
some 5.000 classic cars alone parked here, with Austin A30s mixing in between Bentley Blowers
and a huge number of Aston Martins. Everything was represented here, although 99 % of the
cars were British made.
Passing through a 1930’s “Schouberfouer”, we headed towards the
main entrance for a traditional group photograph. As there was so
much to see here, it was decided that everyone would go their
own way and that we would meet up for lunch. Friday was as
such mostly spent with getting
“acquainted” with the circuit and finding one’s orientation. The
recreated High Street, with a fully functioning Tesco
supermarket from the 50’s, as well
as all the other shops selling,
amongst others, period dress and hats, or the period hairstylers,
all helped create an atmosphere which simply cannot be described
without being there.
Although it was quite chilly and slightly rainy, the races on the circuit were tremendous. In
Britain, people actually race classic cars (and crash them as well), and one of the many
highlights surely must have been the prewar car races.
36
Saturday morning and no rain with plenty of sunshine,
although it remained quite chilly. Some members had pre-
booked Grandstand seats, but to be honest, hardly used
them. Although a seat is nice to have, it’s only of an
advantage when it rains and the circuit offers so many better
possibilities of seeing the races, and as such one could do
without these rather expensive seats. The boxes opposite the
Grandstand were also historically recreated, with the position
of the cars being manually changed.
Although the Goodwood Revival
marked the 50 year anniversary of the
AC Cobra, two other highlights
dominated even more. The first was the
recreation of the 1938 Silver Arrows – Auto Union race. This was the first time that these cars
drove together in the UK since that period, with drivers being Sir Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart,
and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd.
Another Highlight surely must have been the 15 Ferrari 250 GTO’s
running together with some of them actually racing hard in other
races.
The Goodwood Revival wouldn’t be
what it is without airplanes. As
such, Spitfires accompanied a Lancaster bomber on a flypass
while all of us were enjoying the traditional Pimbs. They even
held a Concours d’Elegance for aircraft with the condition being
that they all had to arrive by flying.
37
On Sunday it was more races,
visiting Paddocks, shops, etc and
still there was so much left to see.
Every corner of the circuit had
something else to offer, from “Great
British Food” to an old road works
site to a recreated Police station,
and so on. By the way, the young
ladies from the 30’s and 40’s weren’t
bad either.
After spending another hour and a half just
walking through the car park admiring classic
cars, it was time to say goodbye to what must
have been the most enjoyable classic car meeting
ever. One cannot describe the sheer atmosphere
of the Goodwood Revival through photographs
without having participated. And every one of the
BSCOC members are already making plans to
come back in 2013.

Chers amis,

http://www.legilux.public.lu/leg/a/archives/2012/0199/a199.pdf#page=2
Conclusion :

Westfield Sportscars a short review of an astonishing car maker
At a small industrial estate in Dudley, West Midlands, the observant passer-by who glances
into a small, neat factory unit may be surprised to see what is apparently a congregation of
Lotus 11´s and 7´s. Apparently, because close scrutiny will reveal that most of them bear a small
badge which says “Westfield”, rather than the circular yellow sign of Colin Chapman.(For all
those who don´t know who Chapman was, please ask our club´s President!) At a time when
“replicas” of one sort or another proliferate, this may seem upsetting to supporters of the
marque. Yet the man who has brought this project into being is a devoted fan himself.
Chris Smith -founder of Westfield Sports Cars-has been a very active dealer in racing cars. He
raced MG’s, a Lotus 6, a Lotus 17 sports car and even an Austin Healey Sprite in historic events
and built quite a reputation as a capable preparer of such machines.
In March 1982, almost 5 years after the founding of the British Sports Car Owners Club, Chris
was driving an old American business associate, Mark Hancock, up to Manchester in a Cooper
S that Mark had just purchased from him. They were on the way to view an MG TC and were
discussing a rusting original Lotus 11 frame lying in the garden of Chris´ home. Now guess what
his home was called: Westfield House! Hancock wondered if it would be possible to build up
the frame into a usable road car. Chris felt it was beyond salvation and the best course would
be to make a new frame from scratch. It was then when he decided to design and build a
replica of one of his all-time favourite race cars, the gorgeous 1956 Lotus XI Le Mans car. The
idea for the Westfield sports car was born. Very soon after the first produced look-alike Lotus
11, followed a replica of a Series 1 Lotus 7. Some years later, in 1986, Westfield produced the
Series 3 Lotus 7replica. This is known as the “Pre-lit”and it was this car that caused a stir in the
Caterham ranks due to copyright laws and resulted in a lawsuit in 1987.
From the “Pre-Lit” model was born the SE, SEi and the SEiW which has a wider chassis. These
cars are still produced to present day without having changed their basic shape. Since these
were all kits that you had to build yourself in your garage, Westfield Sportscars introduced the
43
ZEi, the first limited run type-approved car on the market. It came with a Ford Escort XR3 1800
engine which produced130 bhp. Later on the ZEi was also available with the not so slow 2-litre
Cosworth Escort engine with a not so weak 217 bhp output.
T hen came the year 1991. SEiGHTan himself came to town.
The new Westfield SEiGHT was equipped with a powerful
268 bhp V8 engine taken from the Rover Vitesse. This car
should carry a government health warning. If it fails to kill
you with neck-breaking acceleration, it’ll burst your
eardrums with the violence of its V8, poison you with fumes
or douse you in petrol. The SEiGHT and the Ferrari F40 share similar performance and
minimal comforts but the cheaper car has leather trim too! Later on, the SEiGHT was also
available with an even bigger 4.3 liter engine producing 330 bhp. Westfield claims 0-60 mph in
3.6 seconds. You wonder how this is possible? Select first gear, build the revs to 3,500 and pop
the clutch. The rear tires light up and the hand of God punches you forward…and forward…and
forward…!
Later on, Westfield Sportcars built different models
with mainly two different bike engines: the Honda
Fireblade and the Suzuki Hayabusa. Worth mentioning
are the Westfield Hayabusa, one of the fastest bike
engined car built and the XTR2. The last one was
especially build for track but is still road-legal, even if I
wouldn’t recommend using it for an extensive shopping
tour.
Until today, Westfield Sportscars still produces around 400 cars per year and sells them all over
the world. If, by chance, you pass Kingswinford, I recommend you take some time to do a
factory visit. Whether you go for an older Westy or a more recent model, you’ll have at least a 2
years smile guarantee .
