Something To Think About Randy Gilchrist, Executive Director

I truly hope this Easter you, your family,

and the church you attend celebrated the

resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ.

There are two holidays that deserve to be

celebrated by Christians: The Birth of our

Savior and the Resurrection of Our Sav-

ior. One is the day God came down to earth to become the

sacrifice for our disobedience to God. The other is the cele-

bration that God was well pleased with the payment for our

disobedience and the promise of our own eternal relationship

with Him. So let each day be a celebration and renewal of

one’s commitment to Him.

The month of April looks to be another busy month with

planning for Vacation Bible Schools, Pinewood Derby, Sum-

mer Camps and all the other activities for children. The Lake

Tomahawk Golf Tournament is April 16 at River Terrace

Golf Club in Channelview. If playing golf is not your sport,

but you want to contribute to Lake Tomahawk there are hole

sponsorships. Speaking of Lake Tomahawk, don’t forget that

April 21 is the 50+ Fish Fry, with entertainment to be provid-

ed by the Christian country group Branded.

Just a reminder, after Jesus’ resurrection, He appeared to the

disciples in the Upper Room. According to John 20:19-23,

His first words were “Peace be with you.” And then he

showed them his hands and His sides. The Gospel then says

that the disciples were glad when they saw Jesus. Jesus said a

second time “Peace be with you.” And then He said, “As the

Father has sent me, I am sending you”. Then He breathed on

them and said receive the Holy Spirit. Here it is; Jesus first

brought to them His peace, then He told them to do what He

had been doing, and finally empowered them to do it. In the

same way, He gives us His peace, our purpose, and His pow-

er. There will be more to come.

For the Common Good Carey. D. Froelich, Associate Director

for Church Enrichment

But grace was given to each one of

us according to the measure of

Christ's gift….11 And he gave the apostles, the proph-

ets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to

equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building

up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity

of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to

mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the

fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be chil-

dren, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about

by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by crafti-

ness in deceitful schemes. (Ephesians 4:7, 11-14 ESV)

These words that reflect Paul’s understanding of God’s

gifts to the Church represent the very foundation of my

45+ years of vocational ministry. God called me to be

an equipper—one who invests his life in preparing

God’s people for service in the Church and in the

world. I am joined in this role by all of our pastors and

ministry staff, and a special team of those fellow-

equippers has begun planning Learning That Makes a

Difference, scheduled August 20, 2016 at Bayshore

Baptist Church, LaPorte. This training event is

aimed at all Bible Study Leaders (Sunday School and

Small Groups), and includes sessions for leaders with

Adults, Youth, Children, and Preschoolers. By its title

you will recognize the emphasis is on helping teachers

guide Bible study in ways that bring genuine transfor-

mation in the lives of each person in attendance. Please

begin praying for this important event; add it to your

calendar and give it high priority.

Another leadership training event for our Hispanic

Churches is planned on June 25, 2016 at Templo Bap-

tist, LaPorte. The focus of this session is on Develop-

ing Leaders in the Pew, and will feature Campo

Londoño and colleague from Union Baptist Associa-

tion. They will present sessions for both pastors and

other leaders with the underlying theme of making dis-

ciples. Pray for this conference that God may help our

equipping pastors become even more effective among

our churches.

Lake Tomahawk News Patrick Flowers, Camp Manager

This past Monday (3/14) the Volun-

teer Christian Builders (VCB) started

working at Lake Tomahawk. We

have several projects to complete in

the two weeks they are with us.

These retired men and women travel in their RV’s

throughout the US (mostly Texas) helping camps and

churches do small or large projects. We are grateful for

these groups that help us to afford so much of our de-

velopment and remodels. We love our volunteers and

feel blessed they are with us.

Summer is approaching and that means SUMMER

CAMPS! Registration is open for children and youth.

For more information check out the SJBA website. We

are looking to fill all the beds this year and look for-

ward to seeing your kids at Lake Tomahawk.

We are still taking applications for summer staff at

Lake Tomahawk. If you know of a college student or a

mature high school student looking for a summer min-

istry opportunity, send them our way. Students can

find our application on our website at

www.laketomahawk.org.

Pray for us as we continue to make Lake Tomahawk a

place where people have the opportunity to meet our

Lord and Savior.

Co-laboring together.
