ABOUT MAZES
2 | P a g e
Mazes winds its way over 8,000 square feet with over 60
puzzling experiences!
Maneuver your way through this mind boggling collection of mind-bending adventures, 3-D
puzzles and full-body games - an unforgettable adventure that's sure to challenge, entertain
and amaze visitors of all ages.
Look up ‘maze’ in the dictionary, and you’ll find it described as a confusing network of intersecting paths or passages, a complex arrangement that causes bewilderment, confusion or perplexity. Now take that up a notch by adding two vital ingredients – fun and education – and you’ve arrived at Mazes, the exhibition.
Explore 13 interactive mazes and come face to face with mystifying illusions and mind-boggling puzzles! Each maze features a dynamic environment where you’ll discover a surprise around every corner, and develop new methods of problem-solving through improvisation, trial and error, observation and testing, and logic and reasoning. Solve puzzles and patterns, challenge the relationship between the mind and the eye and nurture your inner musician! Maze-A-Palooza offers challenging and interactive maze experiences for all ages, exploring topics ranging from music to Color, illusions to web puzzles. You can run a marathon with your fingers in the Continuous Quad Maze or become a "webmaster", climbing over and under without getting tangled, through an intricate web of ropes! “Research shows that exercising the brain can keep it healthy and sharp. The Maze-A-Palooza special exhibition is sure to give your brain a good workout,” says Jennifer Pink, Science North’s Science Director. “No matter how young or old you are, this exhibition will engage and challenge you!”
"Our visitors LOVED this
exhibition and it
performed very well,
surpassing our
expectations”

ABOUT MAZES

Some Highlights from this exciting exhibit include:
Arrow Maze - The goal may be only a few steps away but getting there isn’t as easy as you’d think! You’re the game piece! You control the horizontal! You control the vertical! You decide how many squares you want to move but you only get one direction. Music Maze - Gong! Xylophone! Clave! Bongos! Steel drum! Ever heard of these? Ever played one? Experiment with instruments of all kinds and unleash your inner musician. Giant Double-Sided Finger Maze - Let your fingers do the walking! Both your eyes are open but only one side of the design reveals itself at any one time. Wind your way from point A to point B and seek out wormholes that will zip you to the other side! Maze of Illusions - Step into a world of illusions! Keep your eyes peeled…what you see may not be what you get! Master the many tricks around each corner and learn why illusions help us learn how our brain works. Explore, observe, experiment, and test your perceptions! David Anson Russo Fine Art Gallery – Unlike any other art gallery you’ve ever been in, this one has five huge, incredible maze artworks that you can actually put your fingers on and solve.
Explore new ways of problem solving. Challenge the relationship
between the mind and eye. Nurture your inner creative genius.
Catalyze cross-generational interaction.
From 2-D to 3-D; fine arts to crafting challenges; full-body action to
focused mind games; Mazes will inspire exuberant exploration and
ingenuity. Mazes aligns with OMSI’s goals to build 21st century skills such
as problem solving, cooperation, creativity, and critical thinking. This
exhibit is designed to appeal to guests of all ages. Families, young children
and teens, and adults alike will find challenges and rewards in mazes large
and small. Science Centers around the country are raving about the public

OMSI’s Impact The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) inspires learning
through engaging science experiences for over one million children and
families each year. In the museum, through traveling programs, and at
camps across the Pacific Northwest, our programs foster innovation and
problem-solving skills. Interactive resources like OMSI spark and
maintain children’s interest in science learning and expand their sense of
career options. Hands-on learning in a social setting has been proven to
advance cognitive skill development, stimulate the science-specific
interests of children, and positively impact long-term civic engagement.
Generous contributors like you help OMSI shape the next generation of
thinkers and doers in the essential areas of science, technology,
engineering, and math.
Our vision is to help build a culture of innovation locally and regionally
through experiences and spaces where science, innovation, and art
collide to teach and inspire design thinking and new skills for children,
families, and school groups. Design thinkers are able to identify and solve
problems by using the design process (ask, imagine, plan, create, and test). Through this process, visitors will gain
valuable 21st century skills, including critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and adaptability.
Programming, exhibits, and events will include design-based challenges that encourage participants to develop creative
solutions to relevant local problems ranging from transportation and the built environment, to personal technologies.
Together, design thinking and 21st century skills will prepare students and people of all ages to succeed in work and life.
With your support, we have the opportunity to establish OMSI as a key “trailhead” in Oregon’s thriving innovation
ecosystem and inspire and educate future design thinkers.
OMSI
inspires
all ages
to become
lifelong learners.
