    About this Document

    Scope This document provides instructions on the proper startup andcommissioning of OmniBAS systems.

    Targetaudience

    The information contained in this document is intended for technicians who are authorized to carry out commissioning worksat the field:

    Task Required Skills

    Antennaalignment. Experience with outdoor installations andalignment of antenna systems.

    All other tasks. Experience with configuration of OmniBASsystems using the software provided byINTRACOM TELECOM.

    Powering Up the OmniBAS System

    Procedure To power up an OmniBAS-4W /-2W system:

    Step Action

    1 Ensure that the connectors of the power supply cablesare firmly plugged into their positions (OmniBAS side).

    2 Switch on the corresponding circuit breakers (on thelocal power distributor) to power up the OmniBASsystem.

    3 Wait (approx. 90 sec ) for the OmniBAS indoor unit topower up before proceeding.

    4 Visually inspect the front panel LEDs for whether theyindicate a normal system response:

    PWR = Green (Input voltage is ok).

    MODEM = Amber (Modemoperational but link notestablished yet).

    Logging into the System

    Overview To login into an OmniBAS system, follow the instructions givenbelow:

    Updating the OmniBAS System

    Introduction This procedure is mandatory and will be carried out for everyOmniBAS node, as follows:

    1. First, updating the indoor unit.

    2. Then, updating the outdoor units (ODUs).

    Updating theindoor unit

    To update the OmniBAS indoor unit, proceed as follows:

    1 Follow the instructions given in the OmniBAS NodeManager User Manual:

    Chapter 9 (Maintaining the OmniBAS-2W/ 4W MEs) ,section Upgrading the Firmware of an OmniBASLink.

    2 Through the Inventory Info tab (see below), verify thatthe new firmware has successfully been downloaded:

    Updating the OmniBAS System, Continued

    Updating theODUs

    To update the ODUs of an OmniBAS node, proceed as follows:

    Step Action

    1 Select an ODU corresponding to the OmniBAS link.Through the Inventory Info tab (see below), check thetwo software versions that are shown at the bottom.

    NOTE

    ODU-CHP with software version 0155 isincompatible.In such cases, replace the ODU-CHP withanother one having a software versionnewer than 0155.

    2 If the displayed versions are: Same select another ODU, associated with

    the same link (if exists), and repeat step 1. Different proceed to the next step.

    3 Update the ODU.For detailed instructions, refer to the OmniBAS NodeManager User Manual:Chapter 9 (Maintaining the OmniBAS-2W/ 4W MEs) ,section Updating an ODU.

    4 Repeat step 1 to 3 for the remaining ODUs (if exist) ofthe same OmniBAS node.

    5 Through the Inventory Info tab, verify that all ODUshave successfully been updated.

    Both software versions shown at the bottom must be thesame. If not, repeat the procedure for all ODUs thathave version mismatch.

    Configuring the Modems & ODUs

    Introduction This section provides instructions on the configuration of eachmodem and its interconnected radio (ODU).

    Procedure To configure the operation of a modem ODU pair, proceed asfollows:

    Step Action

    1 For the selected modem module, configure the followingparameters:

    Channel size. Configuration profile.

    Modulation / ATPC mode. PHY mode (for manual modulation) or maximum

    PHY mode (for auto modulation).For detailed instructions, refer to the OmniBAS NodeManager User Manual:Chapter 5.3 (Configuring Modem Parameters) .

    2 For the interconnected ODU, set: Mute = Off DC Power = ON

    For detailed instructions, refer to the OmniBAS NodeManager User Manual:Chapter 5.4 (Configuring ODU Parameters) , sectionEnabling/ Disabling ODU Mute & DC Power.

    Introduction This procedure concerns only the configuration of protected (1+1)OmniBAS links.

    A protected link always involves a pair of modems and a pair of ODUs per OmniBAS system.

    Aligning the Antennas

    Introduction This section provides detailed instructions on the antennaalignment for the following ODU types:

    ODU-CHP ODU-CF

    Precautions CAUTIONWORKING ON THE BUILDINGS ROOF

    During stormy weather, do not perform anymechanical assembly or antenna beaming works

    on the buildings roof.The metal structure of towers/ masts is prone tolightning.

    Prerequisites Prior to the alignment of the antennas: Have the sites planned received (Rx) power values at

    hand.

    Ensure that the OmniBAS systems, at both sides of thelink, have been powered up.

    Ensure the availability of voice communication (betweenthe two sites associated with the link to be established).

    4 In cooperation with the commissioner at the remote site,mechanically adjust the azimuth / tilting position of theantenna, so that the multimeters voltage readoutreaches the maximum possible level.Indicative correspondence of the planned receivedpower level to voltage readouts (for 28MHz channel) is

    provided in the following table:(Tolerance of +/-5db must be taken into account).

    To carry out the alignment of the antennas, proceed as follows:

    turn its protective cap 90 o counter clockwise to remove.

    2 Connect the BNC connector of the supplied RSSI cable(see below) to the mating receptacle onto the ODU:

    3 Connect the cables black and red (RSSI Field) bananaplugs to the respective voltage positions on a digitalmultimeter and adjust for DC voltage measurement inthe 2 V range.

    Modem Link Status = Lock. RSSI (dBm) = within 5 dB of the value

    calculated during the radio network planning if necessary, coupler loss must also beconsidered.

    Modem Actual Tx Modulation = stable and inaccordance with the planned modulation.

    3 In the PTP Modem Performance Measurements tabbedsheet (see below), and for each modem involved in thelink, do the following:

    1. Click the button to reset the collectedstatistics.

    2. Click the button to start the auto-refresh mode.3. After a time period of 15 min., verify that

    FEC Uncorrected Block = 0.

    Configuring System Synchronization

    Introduction An OmniBAS system can be synchronized to one of the followingtiming sources:

    An incoming E1 timing signal (through an E1 port). An incoming Ethernet timing signal (through an Ethernet

    port). The SYNC IN port. A remote OmniBAS node (over the air). The local systems internal clock.

    Services Provisioning

    Introduction Having completed the establishment of the OmniBAS link, thecommissioner can now proceed to the:

    Configuration of the bridge functionality. Services provisioning (TDM, Ethernet).

    Configuring thebridgefunctionality

    Using the OmniBAS Node Manager, the commissioner is able to: Set bridge parameters. Configure L2 ports. Configure Ethernet QoS. Configure policer parameters. Configure service flows. Configure forwarding process.

    For detailed instructions, refer to the OmniBAS Node Manager User Manual, chapter 6 (Configuring OmniBAS-4W /2W BridgeFunctionality) .

    Servicesprovisioning

    Using the OmniBAS Node Manager, the commissioner is able to: Implement flexible TDM / Ethernet traffic connections. Configure / manage VLANs and associate them with L2

    ports. Configure / manage PWE TDM connections.
