Welcome back for one more busy and fun-filled Term before Santa Claus comes to town! I hope everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing break. Lots of things to look forward to including School Concert, Lake Ainsworth (Year 3 & 4), official opening of the Outdoor Learning Area, Intensive Swimming, Surf School, Year 6 farewell assembly and ukulele concert, Year 6 farewell excursion and dinner and The Big Day Out whole school excursion.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is a key strategic direction for Coorabell Public. Another fantastic example of the highly effective collaborative implementation by our staff of STEM was in Mr Keylock’s 4/5 class

at the end of last Term. The class was given the task of designing a mini wind turbine from recycled materials to create power. Once again these Coorabell kids came up with concepts that were incredibly creative and ingenius. All parents are invited to view the projects on Thursday 17th October at 2pm. See photos attached. Also check out Mr Keylock’s class working with Jesse Blackadder, Naughty Andi and the Storyboard Bus who visited our school again with their exceedingly vibrant presentation. (continued over page)

FOR THE PARENTS

HEALTH ADVICE Chicken PoxWe have had further confirmed cases of chickenpox throughout the holidays and at the start of Term. Please find outlined below information for your further reference.

Chickenpox is a viral illness caused by the herpes zoster virus. In children it usually causes a relatively mild illness. Chickenpox in adults, immunosuppressed people and during pregnancy can be severe.

Parents/caregivers should seek medical advice if your child suffers from signs and symptoms of this disease.

Symptoms: Slight fever, runny nose and a rash that begins as raised pink spots that blister then scab.

Cause: Viral illness caused by the herpes zoster virus.

Spread: By droplets from the infected person coughing or sneezing and/or contact with secretions on unwashed hands. Direct contact with fluid from the blisters. People are infectious from 1-2 days before the rash appears and up to five days after.

Incubation: 2-3 weeks from exposure to illness.

For further information please visit: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Pages/chickenpox.aspx

The term 3 STEM project for class 4/5 was an enormous success. Inspired by the movie ‘2040’ that was viewed in term 2, the Eagles were tasked with creating energy from wind – using only recycled materials. All six groups managed to power a small light

from their mini wind turbines.

An open-class was held for the Dolphins in week 10, with other classes being invited this week. Parents are invited to view these projects on Thursday 17th October from 2pm.
