November, 2014 – Present (2015)Curatorial AssistantUniversity of Portsmouth (Library)Assisting the ongoing process of grouping and hanging of work within the University Library. This regular position also includes the management of displayed work and supporting the production of a ‘William Ralph Turner’ exhibition.

October 2010 – April 2011 Young Curators: Quay Arts Centre, Isle of Wight A sixth month program which consisted of the curation of an exhibition entitled “Where are you going?”. The group collaboratively designed the brief, selected the work and marketed the show prior to the opening.

February, 2009 Cultural Olympiad: Boojum & Snark Gallery, Isle of Wight An exhibition consisting of four under-sixteen year olds and their self-directed photographic projects. The final outcome was the curation of these commercial shots within the Boojum and Snark Gallery, Sandown.

March, 2014Stars in the Aisles (Usherette Exhibition)Space, University of Portsmouth An exhibition within Eldon Building (University of Portsmouth) celebrating the origin of cinema. Responsibilities included preparing the space for work and aiding the final clean up.

‘CONDITIONS OF CONNECTIVITY’

A visual and academic journey uncovering the various forms of communication within institutionalized religion. Notably, prayer, mass-worship, religious texts and visions are all examples of this communication. Above is an image of the blog created for the project, taking my research to a new audience.

‘CONDITIONS OF CONNECTIVITY’

A tabloid-style newspaper.To visualise the idea of distorted communication, I designed a series of optical illusions. Accompanying these are explanatory paragraphs and geometric patterns.

Nine optical illusions.

Each image has been silkscreen printed with two separate layers, one a vibrant yellow, the other a pale blue. The prints are upon Unryushi paper. The light below illuminates the prints, emphasizing the separate layers and revealing the hairline of the handmade paper.

Nexus Pt. II A hand constructed pine light box measuring 15 x 11 inches. Adorning the light box is a silkscreen printed moiré illusion, upon a high gsm Unryushi paper.The color scheme of red and blue has been inspired by anaglyph (3D) illusions.This backlit print displays the unintentional creation of shape through the distortion of the original form.

‘Trafalgar’ (left)

Silkscreen print upon a high gsm cartridge paper. The design is a microscopic visualization of beer foam.

A pair of silkscreen prints. Inspired by the movie ‘Alien’. The artwork is dual-layered, playing with the visual representation of technology.

‘Triangulum’

A geometric typeface constructed using primarily triangular forms. The stems of the typeface features a structured, grayscale pattern accompanied by a curved serif.

‘Horror & Her’

A series of 3 in x 3 in concertina books. The pair evolved from an academic review of the role of women within traditional and contemporary horror films.

The majority of imagery has been compiled in Adobe InDesign. The initial artwork was silkscreen printed, photocopied and hand drawn.

Each book is contained within a bellyband and is hung vertically by a hooped length of string (on the first panel).

‘Triangle Book’ (Artist Book)

A concertina book with each panel measuring 2.5 in x 2.5 in. The book contains small, vector-based illustrations of various geometric designs and patterns.

A project commissioned by British company Anglepoise. Over 30 illustrators submitted their sketchbook, visualizing the classic lamp.

The above images evidence some of the pages, including a machine-stitched lightbulb.

‘Sole Mates’

A collaboration between seven, Southsea-based illustrators.

The zine, a concertina, consists of two seperate booklets, an A3 poster and a set of business cards. It narrates the tale of life, from birth to death through the use of shoes.

The final product was silkscreen printed, stamped and is contained within a bellyband.

‘Vicar’ (Zine)A mixed-media, A5 zine created to question papal leadership and the role of the modern-day Catholic church.

The zine is a combination of white card and heavy-duty tracing paper.

For the zine, imagery has been inkjet printed. Processes used to create the original artwork include silkscreen printing and ink-based drawing
