6s v HSBC League Home 3 - 4
Looking for our first win since God was a boy the 6s were in cup action against HSBC on the hallowed turf of Hayes Facing opponents who lost to our own 8s last week we fancied our chances
Those hopes soon took a dent after two defensive errors in quick succession saw us 2-0 down
The second half was much improved and we pulled one back after excellent work from James Gilbert on the wing setting up Greg Marr to reduce the deficit HSBC scored again in controversial circumstances - their striker clearly controlled the ball with his hand and the young ref saw it but was seemingly unaware of the rule change
We pulled another goal back through Sam James HSBC quickly for another then a penalty for us was coolyconverted by Steve Benwell We totally dominated the second half and would have won the game but for the refereeing (They are human too and sometimes make a mistake Ed)
Hopefully things will go our way in the New Year

Last league game of the season saw the Classico return to Hayes for the 8thXI Vs the 7th XI (Well most of them) and despite being caught cold very early on with a quick swivel and strike by the oppositions ever versatile Will Davies it was a great first half with us seeming to have the better chances and winning most of battles all around the pitch in a great contest that felt very even Despite the 0-1 half time score the 2nd half started badly and 2 quick goals put the 7th XI on the back foot and despite pulling back 2 goals and contesting hard the score settled at 2-6 by the end Despite this the first half and the energy and commitment levels overall are definitely big positives to see and something to build on going into the new year and we look forward to the challenge as we close the year out mid table

PEACE KEEPING FORCE SEES HOME VICTORY 1st Xl 5 Clapham Old Xvarians 1
Spirits were high in the changing room and a sense of security filled the atmosphere Was it the fact that Adam Goddard had been restored to the right-back position I think not it was more the fact that Danny Webb had arrived with only 15 minutes left before kick-off
ldquoKendorsquo was in his usually talkative mood and the team started the strongest we have seen all season and within 15 minutes we found ourselves two up with goals from ldquoKENDOrdquo and RICHARD EGAN a couple of quality finishes which was not to set the standard throughout the match
Some blinding moves resulted in chance after chance and we were really on top the pity being that the forwards could not convert
Clapham were reduced to ten men when one of their players clashed heads with Danny Webb Fortunately he Danny Webb carried on whilst the Clapham player ended up in hospital Then a fine move resulted in a fine cross from Danny Gilbertson and a fine header from RICHARD EGAN brought our tally to three ndash all in all a great goal
In the second half we came under a bit of pressure which resulted in Clapham scoring a dubious goal Tempers started to fray but we managed to keep our heads thanks to Carl Burgessrsquos diplomatic relations
Two more goals from ROLAND TOWNSON and we were home and dry A well-deserved win Result ldquoA happy lsquoKendorsquo and lsquoRolyrsquo was lsquoMan of the matchrsquo Danny WebbsLake KendrickN Goddard Gilbertson Webb Townson Egan BurgessC + three
ldquoA GOOD TEAM PERFORMANCErdquo 4th Xl 2 Old Meadonians 1
We played at Hayes courtesy of the 3rd Xl who had their game postponed and were matched against an unbeaten Meadonians side The pitch was heavy and we started very positively playing some good football and generally containing them in their half and it was no surprise after several promising moves when the ball fell to DAVE NELMES on the edge of the box and he stroked a lsquobobblerrsquo into the far corner
Further pressure did not yield any further goals in the first half whilst their only chance was well saved by Kelvin WingNo sooner had the second half kicked off when a move down the left saw Dave Nelmes cross the ball to IAN HAINES and
with a defender standing off the ball Ian found the roof of the net Meadonians then put us under a great deal of pressure for the rest of the second half but some great goal-keeping kept them at bay
The only disappointment was a late goal from Meadonians that spoilt Kelvinrsquos clean sheet jug All in all another great performance by all of those who played but special mention should be made of Kelvin Wing who had his best game of the season
Finally thanks to Terry Adams for refereeing the game which he controlled very well and we were grateful to drink his match fee Sirsquo KiddWingK Udale Robinson Valder MurrayB MoleJ Milledge (Ashley)Simpson Kidd Nelmes Haines
ALL OUR YESTERDAYS - 50 YEARS AGO
Following their first league defeat of the season last week the 1st Xl spent much of the first half rushing around at a furious pace in an effort to regain their winning form The defence rarely looked like giving a goal away but there was a lack of cohesion up front probably due to the insistence of Terry Adams and Dave Bartlett who stayed back to stop the opposition scoring
Grammarians used the wings to good effect and looked more dangerous than ourselves but the highlight of the first half was Les Simnerrsquos passing
In the second half the 1st Xl were justly rewarded with two goals the first coming after a cross from the left was lunged at by JAMIE JENNINGS and their full-back and the ball floated over the head of the helpless goal-keeper The second came from a high cross from Gerry Reaseley Jamie Jennings ran in to challenge the lsquokeeper and his header went to CHRIS THRELFALL who pushed the ball home
Old Grammarians replied and scored following a defensive mistake as a floating centre drew out Brian Wells Bill Burgoyne and Mike Kendrick all of whom missed it and an open net was waiting Wilsonrsquos never again found their earlier form but a swirling 25 yarder from CHRIS THRELFALL found the bottom corner of the net to make the final score 3-2 Terry Fanning
The 2nd Xlrsquos game will be forgotten for its football content as nobody managed to master the pitch and passes went astray Plaistovians had no more idea than we did and the first half was score-less
In the second half Ian Rayworth who had been telling Ian Forbes that he should be playing centre-forward scored the best goal ever seen at this ground as he collected the ball in great style and lobbed it beautifully over Sirsquo Wills head and under the cross-bar
Play got worse until ALAN CARPENTER who had already hit a post scored with a great shot on the run a just reward for his play Ian Forbes showed great defensive skill standing on his own goal-line and heading the ball with tremendous power straight to one of the opposition who shot wide Anon
On a slopping pitch at Coneyhall the 3rd Xl never came up to expectations
In the first half we showed no real spirit until we were two goals down and LOU BARRY then scored a good goal and MIKE HARRIS then chased through to score with his left foot to level the scores and we turned round thinking that we could win
However in the second half our play became erratic and even a penalty was missed by Ted Gibbons who placed the ball wide of the lsquokeeper but did not hit it strongly enough to clear his lunging hands
The side then went to pieces but Len Brown and Lou Barry those two little lsquoBsrsquo must be congratulated for their perseverance at this stage The final score was 2-5 to Lattymerians this being a fair reflection of the play and it can only be hoped that our next league appearance will bring forth a little more spirit from the team as a whole
Mention must also be made of lsquoOld Man McAlisterrsquo who always tackled hard and played through-out the game with vigour and great effort Ted Gibbons

3s lost to the side who are currently bottom of the league but are still top of the league (Sounds like a Christmas riddle Ed) Elliot Tiffin via Whatsapp
