TRANSCRIPT
Finding the right oil cooler can be a challenge. After considering
space constraints, contaminants in the oil and cooling medium and
maintenance requirements, details like thermal and hydraulic
performance can seem almost irrelevant.
At GEA PHE Systems we understand that selecting an oil cooler is
not just a question of fl ow rates, temperatures and pressure drops.
We have a full selection of oil coolers to fi t a variety of conditions,
and the expertise to help you select the right solution for your needs,
not just a “good enough” solution. Look here for coolers for these
applications:
Hydraulic Press Cylinder Oil
Turbine Lube Oil
Diesel Engine Lube Oil
Transmission Oil
Screw Compressor Oil
Transformer Oil
Benefi ts:
Compact—
When space is at a premium you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how
small the GEA solution is.
Flexibility to Fit Your Requirements—
We can accommodate not only most lubricating oils, but also most
cooling media.
When fouling is a problem, we can give you the best answer.
The Right Design for the Job—
We don’t try to shoehorn you into a narrow range of options.
We give you the best solution available from the broadest off ering of
advanced solutions in the industry.
Oil Coolers
GEA Heat Exchangersengineering for a better world
The Challenge of Cooling OilThe Best Solutions Take Into Account All These Factors:
Thermal PerformanceThe turbulence created in the gaps of a plate heat exchanger provide
improved heat transfer eff ectiveness. Especially when the oil and cooling
medium fl ows are equal or close to equal, the high heat transfer eff ectiveness
can help prevent critical viscosity breakdown.
Hydraulic PerformanceThe diff erence in viscosity between the oil and the cooling medium can
cause diffi culties in selecting a heat exchanger that will transfer enough heat
from the oil to be eff ective. Designs frequently are “pressure drop limited”,
where the pressure drop on the oil side limits the possibilities. Understanding
this helps in selecting the right technology to overcome this.
FoulingOil can pick up contaminants that foul onto the heat transfer surface,
reducing the system’s ability to keep the oil at the desired temperature. And
the cooling media can potentially foul as well. We off er multiple options for
addressing this issue, depending on the type and location of the fouling, to
keep your system performance at optimum.
MaintenanceIn a perfect world, operating conditions are perfect, but in the real world the
system may require periodic maintenance. We off er a range of serviceability
options, and can provide the best choice for your requirements.
Size. Both the installation footprint and maintenance footprint can be signifi cant
factors. Especially when replacing an existing oil cooler, space can be at a
premium. The right solution can make the diff erence between it fi tting or not.
The Right Solution, not a “Good Enough” Solution. At GEA PHE Systems we have a full range of heat exchangers to answer to the challenge of cooling oil.
Best suited when:
Clean-in-Place
maintenance is acceptable.
Standard fl ow up to 360
gpm. Higher fl ow rates
available on request.
Design pressures up
to 650 psig.
NH100L Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger
When complete cleanability, elevated pressure and higher fl ow rates
are the drivers, reach for the NH100L. Well suited as an oil cooler,
it has these features:
316L Stainless Steel plates and choice of NBR or EPDM gaskets
provide suitability for a wide range of oil and media.
Design pressure up to 400 psig, with ASME code stamp.
Can be completely disassembled for maintenance.
Best suited when:
Contaminants on either side
require periodic disassembly
for cleaning.
Standard low rates up to
415 gpm. Higher fl ow rates
available on request.
Design pressures up to
400 psig. Higher pressures
available on request.
OC Series Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger
Reliable and fi eld proven, the OC Series is a cost effi cient oil cooler
for all industrial applications. Based on our years of experience we’ve
developed these features:
316L Stainless Steel plates and copper brazing mean solid and
dependable performance. (Nickel-Chrome brazing is available for
demanding cooling media or ammonia-contaminated oil)
Integrated additional connections top and bottom allow venting,
oil draining or installation of a temperature sensor.
Oil connections on the back and cooling media connections on the
front make for simple and easy connections.
Rated for 450 psig to accommodate a range of operating conditions
(650 psig option available for elevated pressure systems).
NT Series Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger
When complete cleanability, variable media and higher fl ow rates
are critical, reach for the NT Series. Well suited as an oil cooler,
it has these features:
Broad choice of plate material (including Titanium Grade one
for seawater applications) enables this plate to handle any
contaminants in the oil, and any cooling media.
Gasket selection covers most media as well.
Design pressure up to 300 psig, with ASME code stamp.
Can be completely disassembled for maintenance.
Best suited when:
Contaminants on either
side require periodic
disassembly for cleaning.
Standard design pressures
up to 300 psig. Higher
pressures available on
request.
Flow rates exceed the
limits of other options.
Media on either side
contain elements that
would destroy ordinary
materials.
