PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Well, here we are in 2017 and I hope everyone has had a great Christmas. The Christmas Party and Presentation Night was held on 13th December, 2016, which turned out to be the hottest night in 150 years, but at least it didn’t rain. The night was well attended by over 100 members. A good night was had by all and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Thanks to everyone who bought a plate of food for the festive table. Without your support we wouldn’t have had such a great night. A list of the trophy winners and point score winners are further on in this edition of the “Bark” together with lots of photos. Thanks to Heather Hanly for taking all the photos. It was nice to see a lot of people getting awards with their dogs and I can see no reason why members shouldn’t be out there at Obedience and Rally O Trials, trialling their dogs. It will be nice to see some new instructors coming on board in the new year. I hope your stay with us will be a long and happy one. There has been no new developments in relation to our new grounds. It all takes time and we are not expecting things to get underway till the middle of the year. Our next event will not be until our Obedience Trial on Sunday, 25th June, 2016. So please keep that date free to come along and watch what happens at an obedience trial. Regards, Ron Probert President.

If you would like to have a go at trialling your dog please read the

following from the Dogs NSW website - "Whether your dog is a puppy or a more

mature dog, has a Pedigree, is a rescue dog, or is a cross breed the basic training he has received at the local obedience club will enable you and your dog to get ready to enter the world of Obedience Trialing and Rally Obedience. To enter in these competitions you need a trained dog that is registered with a controlling body, in New South Wales and that is “Dogs NSW” either on the main register or associate register. You also need to be a member of Dogs NSW.

Please be warned that Obedience Trialling and Rally Obedience will open up a new world

for you and your dog. Some people newly introduced to the world of obedience find

trialling addictive and each weekend people head off with their dogs to compete in

Obedience and Rally O, along the way forming friendships with like minded people. "

Your first step is your C.C.D. title - here's what to aim for

Community Companion Dog – CCD

This is the basic level of competition and is not a compulsory section.

In this class:

1. the dog and handler work together as a team to perform a heel on lead exercise, including sits, stands and downs as the judge calls them.

2. next is stand for examination where the dog stands steadily on lead whilst the judge approaches and examines the dog’s back and head.

3. finally the dog is left sitting whilst the handler walks away 12 metres then turns and calls the dog, which should come straight in and sit in front, the handler returns around it and releases, usually with much praise for a job well done.

4. when all dogs in the class have had their turn, they all come together to do a one minute sit stay and a two minute down stay, all off lead in a row with the handlers standing five metres away.

If you are interested in joining the world of dog trialling you are

welcome to discuss it with any of the instructors.

Tuesday Night Ground Rules Please ensure you have a suitable collar and lead for your dog when attending training. Check with

your Instructor, or with Canteen staff. They are there to help you.

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times unless your Instructor requires otherwise. This is for your

safety, as well as others.

Please clean up after your dog. Keep one or two doggy bags in your pocket just in case. Doggy

bags can be obtained at the canteen.

Keep the ground equipment clean. Make sure your dog does not urinate on the "witches hats" used

for class assembly at commencement of training.

Bitches in season are NOT allowed on the grounds. Please leave the girls at home for the duration

of the season as it upsets the male dogs

The use of mobile devices for filming and photo taking is not permitted turning classes
