THE PASSING OF GEOFF PETTS Our club lost a long time member with the passing of Geoff Petts on the 18th September. A celebration of Geoff’s life took place at Bance and Son Funeral Home in Wagga.
Our thoughts are with Robyn and all the Petts family.
A story by Ian Holgate (Ralph) with contributions from Wayne Clout
Village Cars with Geoff ( Ralph ) I have known Geoff for a long time we became close friends when we got together in the late 70’s through the WWVVMC.
“Village Cars”, came from Geoff’s Mum who always called the old cars Village Cars and Geoff often called them that ripping off his Mum.
We had some fun times together Peter M, Wayne C, David B, Peter Button, Joe Knight, Len Oakman, and others.
Attending swap meets with Geoff was always fun. At Bendigo Swap we camped out at Robyn Lee Caravan Park so that after the swap we would hook in and shower and set into a huge BBQ dinner, a few amber stubbies then off to bed. About 12 fellers in two or three onsite vans up early next morning to a healthy BBQ, bacon, eggs etc it was a real team effort. Then off to the swap again.
We attended many swap meets looking for parts for Chev’s, Olds and Gardner.
Sydney Super Swap was another yearly adventure at Blacktown shopping centre car park. We would get in early so we could get a corner site on the outside of the car park or you would need a torch to see what you were looking at. Geoff always said if you put small item’s on a milk crate on the corner of the swap site they would sell, he was correct most of the time.
We often joked about a fellow purchasing a wind screen frame from Peter M. He asked what it was off. Peter said I think an Olds Tourer, he trotted off saying it didn’t matter, it was the start to his restoration.
I also remember the fun we had coming home from one Sydney Super Swap. Me driving. Passenger’s in the back decided that it would be a good idea to make up some score cards for the female passengers in the passing cars. That was a great idea until one hubby got a little upset and was shaking his fist at us so that we soon
stopped but a lot of laughter was had while it lasted.
Robyn and Geoff were behind a lot of the stage shows for our annual June Rally
Swinging around on the stage about three groups of fellers in DrizABones flashing each other and hoping we wouldn’t make a mistake otherwise people may have seen things they should not have seen!!
Another one was standing up behind a screen with people painted on the curtain except for the faces. Our fat bellies were painted up to look like faces with glasses and poking out through a large hole in the curtain and pretending to whistle to the tune of Whistling Jack Smith and laughing while trying to do the skit.
One of the many good times with Geoff was at the Tumut Falling Leaf Festival we had some spare time so we went to the top of the dam wall
Geoff hopped in Clouts truck for the drive down. There were a number of members there when we got to the bottom Geoff kissed the ground
He thought we were in trouble coming down but the old truck and driver new when to pull up I wasn’t silly. We stayed in a room at the Blowing Caravan Park, the room slept 15 or so. Not much sleep was had by all, but fun and laughter was the best medicine for all.

Yes… Another Trump joke The Pope and Trump are on the same stage in Yankee stadium in front of a huge crowd. The Pope leans towards Trump & says, “Do you know that with one little wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, but will go deep into their hearts & they’ll forever speak of this day and rejoice!” Trump replied “I seriously doubt that! With one little wave of your hand… show me!” So the Pope backhanded him off the stage AND the crowd roared & cheered wildly and there was happiness throughout the land! Contributed by Ruth Foster

FORD CLOSES ITS AUSTRALIAN FACTORIES AFTER MORE THAN 90 YEARS OF CAR-MAKING The last Australian-made Ford car has rolled off the assembly line at the company's Broadmeadows plant, marking the end of an era.
Ford has confirmed 600 manufacturing workers have lost their jobs after the company's plants at Broadmeadows and Geelong shut down on Friday 7th October.
Ford is the first of the big three car makers to switch off the factory lights after the demise of the local industry was announced in 2013.
It means the end of the road, too, for the Ford Falcon, a motoring icon embedded in Australian culture for more than half a century.
REMEMBER THESE?

WANGARATTA RALLY – 10th and 11th September Bredin's, Cain's, Halbisch, Hanson's, Rockliff's, Tarlinton's and Taylor's attended the Wangaratta Rally held recently.
Most of us travelled on Friday, we struck heavy rain some of the way, but luckily for us and the other Rally participants it cleared on Saturday and Sunday, which made for a pleasant weekend in the picturesque countryside of North East Victoria.
On Saturday we visited Myrtleford, Bright where we had lunch then onto Milawa to check out Brown Brothers Winery.
Sunday we drove to Markwood to have a look at the Gibb's steam engines. Plenty of steam engines to view. Then back to The Vine Hotel, Wangaratta for lunch.
Congratulations to John and Julie, Merv, Alan and Kay on their award winning cars.
“Best Sixties car” Alan and Kay Cain “Best Thirties Car” Merv Halbisch “Best Vintage Car” John & Julie Rockliff
The Wangaratta gang
Sudoku Solution and Puzzle No11 will be in November magazine.
A little old man shuffled slowly into an ice cream parlour and pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool... After catching his breath, he ordered a banana split. The waitress asked kindly, 'Crushed nuts?' 'No,' he replied, 'Arthritis.'

DAMPER DAY & NAKED RADIATOR RUN The competition was rife at the Holgates for Take 2 of the Damper day. However there were not very many naked radiators!! Just Merv’s, and after some pressure was applied the Holgates retrieved their Olds from the shed. The joke of the day was that Ian had scheduled the event for Bathurst Race day, something that I don’t think will happen next year. There were many varieties of damper, with varying levels of success in the cooking department.
??? And the winner was
A great fire provided by the hosts

ROLLS ROYCE CLUB VISIT On the weekend of the 17th and 18th September a convoy of 40 gleaming Rolls Royces rolled into town. Our club was invited to join the members of the Rolls Royce Owners Club for a beautiful seafood buffet on the Saturday night, where we shared stories and admired their vehicles. 10 of us joined the 60 or so visitors at the RSL club.
They came through town as part of their annual Dawn Patrol Tour, named after the Silver Dawn Rolls Royce.
Vehicles ranged from 1930s to brand new models.

PINK ELEPHANTS IN THE MORRIE Chris was walking around the house the other day when she spotted Peter down the backyard talking to himself, waving his arms around his head and jumping up and down three times.
He repeated this act half a dozen times. Chris asked the Peter what he was doing. Peter replied, “I am keeping the pink elephants out of the Morris 1000.”
Chris replied, “Why? There are no pink elephants in the Morrie.”
Peter replied, “I know, works great doesn’t it?” Contributed by WWVVMC member
RIVERINA TRUCK SHOW AND KIDS CONVOY Although the wet weather had reduced the number of trucks and altered the route a trusty group enjoyed a cuppa and a chat as they cheered the trucks on in Bomen.
COULD BE US!! Contributed by Ruth Foster
An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.
The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very highly.'
The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?'
The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What’s the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know, the one that's red and has thorns.'
'Do you mean a rose?'
'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'

HOLDEN PROTOTYPE CAR NO 1 Sole survivor a national symbol The early model Holden car is one of the most recognisable cultural artefacts of 1950s Australia. This particular car is the only survivor of three test sedans which became the definitive model for millions of Holden cars. The Holden was a vivid manifestation of Australian dreams of prosperity, made more intense by years of wartime austerity. More than just a car, the early Holdens were complex symbols of freedom and independence, as well as suburban conformity. From America to Australia Prototype No. 1 was built by hand in 1946 by American and Australian engineers at the General Motors workshop in Detroit. After months of durability and performance tests in America, three prototypes were shipped to Australia. Legend has it that the cars were driven under cover of darkness to the Fishermen's Bend factory in Melbourne. Registered as JP-480, Prototype No.1 was tested on a circuit east of Melbourne specifically designed to replicate Australian driving conditions. The Holden name Technicians continued to make minor technical modifications to the car, while General Motors-Holden's executives searched for a name for the new car. After much deliberation, they decided on the 'Holden', in honour of Sir Edward Holden, the company's first chairman. Other names considered were GeM, Austral, Melba, Woomerah, Boomerang, and Emu. The car narrowly avoided the name 'Canbra', a phonetic spelling of Canberra. Holden history The first Holden rolled off the assembly line at Fishermen's Bend on 29 November 1948. Many saw the event as evidence of national maturity, proof that Australia had escaped its pastoral beginnings and embraced the modern industrial age. The Holden 48-215, commonly known as the FX, was a robust and economical family sedan, designed for the Australian environment. Australian production Combining local production with American styling and technical simplicity, the car captivated many Australians. Public reaction to the prospect of an Australian-built car had been extraordinary, with around 18,000 people signing up for a Holden without knowing a single detail about the car. Holdens soon dominated the roads. By 1958 sales accounted for over 40 per cent of total car sales in Australia. A million had been sold by 1962 and, despite market competition from the Ford Falcon, another million were sold over the next six years. Prototype No. 1 history Following the public release of the sedans, General Motors-Holden's fitted Prototype No. 1 with a new engine and sold it to Holden foreman Arthur Ling. The car was later traded to a Holden dealership in Morwell, Victoria, where it remained for 40 years, falling steadily into disrepair. In 1999, Melbourne-based Holden enthusiasts Gavin and Graham Strongman purchased the car. They spent 12 months meticulously restoring the vehicle to its final pre-production form, which incorporated many of the progressive changes implemented by General Motors-Holden during the testing phase. Once restored, the prototype was purchased by Ian Metherall, who sold the car to the National Museum in 2004. The Holden Prototype Car No. 1 is on show in the National Museum of Australia’s Landmarks gallery, Lawson Crescent, Acton Peninsula, Canberra, ACT
