MINUTES OF THE COMMITTEE MEETING FOR APRIL – 2020

30th March This meeting was conducted via email, due to the special circumstances. Correspondence *Delegates report from the SMA Meeting. When we get the official minutes they will be sent to members. (They are included later in the magazine. Editor) There was nothing major to report. *Notice from CHMC that their AGM has been postponed to 24th Oct. No location as yet. *Thankyou from Wagga Peddle Car Ass. Discussion * Committee Meetings will still be held, but we might try a different method next month. * Our AGM date will stay at 4th September at this stage. If this changes, members will be notified. So, the Committee will carry on in their positions until then. *Newsletters will only be sent out to club members *Rob has canceled the Qld run *The June Rally has been cancelled. Annie sent emails out to past entrants informing them.

FROM THE EDITOR There are just a couple of things I would like to mention before we get into this months magazine. Firstly, I would like to apologise for the printing errors in last months Reflection. It went unnoticed until we were almost finished putting all the magazines in the envelopes and I made the decision that it was not worth reprinting, unfolding removing the staples to make the corrections for page 8. Those that received the magazine via email, or viewed the version on the website, received the correct version. During these next few months when all of our travel in our Historic vehicles is deemed “unnecessary”, we are going to be very light on for items for the newsletter. Please consider doing a Profile on yourself for the magazine. Or maybe you could go through your old photos and find something interesting or funny that other

members might really enjoy. I can pick material up from your letter box, or you can email me if you have the technology. I do have a slide scanner, so can convert from slides for the magazine. David Bredin has kindly given me some material for this months magazine that I think you will really enjoy. So stay safe, and if you need any help with anything please call someone on the committee and we will do our best to organise help.

Sue Kelly

LET’S TAKE A DRIVE DOWN MEMORY LANE These wonderful memories have been kindly provided by David Bredin Centenary parade and Centenary Vintage Train As the Editor I hope I am interpreting the notes that David has given me correctly. These photos are of WWVVMC vehicles in the Councils Centenary Parade in 1970, which is quite relevant as we are now celebrating 150 years of Wagga Wagga. Photo to the right: David Bredin’s Chevrolet taken from the Union Club balcony looking across the corner to the Carmody hotel. Both hotels have a connection with WWVVMC because meetings were held at the Carmody Hotel before the club moved across to the Union Club for meetings.

Lorna Bredin’s Austin 7. Behind it is Steve Murphy’s Morris Oxford. Steve was an early member of our club.

Lorna Bredin’s Austin 7 with Mrs Edna Bredin standing on the right side of the car.

Bill Han in his Vauxhall picking up VIP’s from the Centenary Train, on the 16th March 1970.

David Bredin also picking up VIP’s from Centenary Train and driving them to the Civic Centre.

Wagga Show Parade 1968 These eight photos are of the Wagga show parade in 1968. David’s Chevrolet was not yet restored, so he was able to take these photos. The Club cars are transporting seniors from the 2WG Old Peoples Home, now called The Haven. The photos are taken south of Hunters on the Hill on Fitzmaurice Street.

PROFILE – WHO AM I?

Birthplace – Wagga Wagga Schooling – Holbrook Central - Wagga & Kogarah TAFE – University of New England. First vehicle - 1948 Morris Convertible as a paddock basher - had Masonite floors as an optional extra HK Holden for my first road worthy car in 1969 First Job – Hay carting in the summer Wood carting in the winter Then spent over the next 40 years training to become a “classic” Public Servant in the Power Industry. Holden/Ford – Holden of course. Vehicle I would love to own – 1970 HT 350 GTS Holden Monaro. Longest trip in my club car – I get told frequently that I don’t own a car in our club. My job is only to keep it on the road. Favourite Music – Fleetwood Mac Favourite Food – Olives & a good “red” (wine that is).

Favourite movie - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1962). Favourite actor - Jack Nicholson, Spare time – Riding motorbikes. Interesting Facts : •Member of the Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) from 1982 to 2000. •As a kid I was small in stature but counteracted this issue by weighing in at 12 stone when I was only 12 years old – consequently I never excelled in rugby league – especially when we had “weight divisions” (not age divisions) in those days. I found myself playing against 5’ 14” high school bullies mostly 4 years older than myself. •However, as I grew up I did become a keen sportsman playing mostly squash & cricket. A few personal milestones in cricket included:

Opening both the batting & bowling in 1st Grade. Bowling 35 overs straight at Harris Park in a 70 over a day match. 4 wickets in 4 consecutive balls in 2nd Grade at Lake Albert. 2 hat tricks plus best bowling figures of 9 for 17, 9 for 27 & 9 for 35 over the years.

•Also took up golf in later years – no comment required here! Interests as a child? – becoming the same size as any other kid. How long have you been a WWVVMC member? – 25+ years

HANDY CLEANING HINTS To brighten your whites in the wash add 1/2 cup of lemon juice. This can be fresh or bottled. Have scuff marks on your walls? Rub the inside flesh of cucumber skin over it, (because that’s about all cucumber is good for isn’t that right Ian )

Broken glass shards on your floor or counter top, take a slice of bread and press on the area, (just don’t squeeze it out like a dish cloth) Use a brew of black tea to clean your mirrors. Just brew your tea put in a spray bottle once it’s cold, then clean. Use a walnut to remove superficial scratches in a wooden table. Remove marks from a chopping board by rubbing with lemon juice and leave overnight, then rinse next morning. Good for refreshing the smell as well. To clean windows, mirrors or glass surfaces use 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water. No streaks. Keep your electronic gadgets clean. This includes Mobile Phone Landline phone Tablet E Readers Computers Wipe with a slightly damp cloth at least twice a day. Don’t let other people use your mobile phone. Use about a 10c sized portion of mayonnaise on a cloth and scrub the wooden surface to get those coffee/ tea mug stains off When you get down to those soap scraps either grate them or finely chop then add to water in a pump pack and you have liquid soap.
