USI NEWSLETTER

From the desk of the President.....

Dear Members,

Greetings from USI….!

We are getting ready for the big event of the year, the USICON 2020 at Kochi. I take this

opportunity to welcome all of you to 'God's own country' for what promises to be a landmark

event. Dr Rajeev TP, the Honorary Secretary, has prepared a very exhaustive and academically

stimulating scientific program for everyone. Dr George Abraham, the Organising Chairman and

Dr Vinod KV, the Organising Secretary, are arranging a memorable social and cultural bonanza

waiting for you and your families!

Friends, as I mentioned earlier, this year has been dedicated to bringing in several new initiatives

for USI, and towards implementing resolutions which were passed years ago. Please allow me to

submit a report card, in the form of a 'Vision document 2020', including the initiatives kicked off

in recent months by your dedicated team of USI council, with active contribution from all the

members. The Vision document follows this message.

On behalf of the council of USI, in view of the overcrowding of clinical calendar through the year, it

is a request to all of you to refrain from attending purely industry-sponsored events. Please

strengthen your society by insisting on participating only in academic and clinical events held in

association with USI or one of its chapters. This year, USI council has worked hard towards

integration with industry in this direction at all levels.

I also take this opportunity to appeal to all members to avoid medical jousting at all cost, ie,

speaking ill of another colleague in front of the patient, notwithstanding any personal

differences or difference of opinion. In today's atmosphere, if we do not hang together, we shall

surely hang separately!

My sincere thanks our exceptionally hard-working and dynamic Honorary Secretary Dr Rajeev TP,

and the President-elect Dr Anant Kumar, along with all members of the USI council, for their

unstinted support and active contribution in all programs outlined above, throughout the year.

The untiring contribution of the Central Office team, led by Mr Navneet & Mrs Kiran Arora,

deserves special thanks as always!

Wishing all of you a very happy New Year in advance, and looking forward to seeing you all with

your families in Kochi in January!

Sincerely,

Madhu S Agrawal

USI NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Guwahati

I convey my best wishes and winter season's greetings to all the members of USI through this last

newsletter of the year 2019. In the next fortnight, we will be coming up with the yearly

supplement.

We are going to meet at Kochi for the 53rd Annual conference of USI with lots of scientific as well

as cultural activities being planned for the meeting. I would like to share good news with the

members that the USI accounts for the financial year 2018-19 have been audited by our CA Ms

Ayesha Gupta and Co and filed the Income tax return.

Our society is growing every year by adding 300+ members annually. By Kochi conference, the

membership numbers will have crossed 4400. We have new ex-officio members inducted into the

council during the zonal conferences at Coimbatore, Rajkot, Ranchi and Noida. and hope to raise

the standards of the forthcoming academic programs to greater heights with their active

involvement.

The coming 2 months, we have a plethora of academic activities and I request everyone to be a

part of them. Soon after the UroCommunicon we will have the 'Best of EAU' at Chennai, Mumbai

Kolkata and Delhi. This shall be followed by UROMET C and thereafter the Annual conference with

a fabulous scientific Bonanza. As mentioned in earlier newsletters, there are several fascinating

new features going to be incorporated in the annual conference at Kochi. The Scientific Chairs

and our esteemed council have finalized the scientific programme for this annual conference. I

request all the members, especially residents and young Urologists to participate actively in

USICON 2020 Kochi, and get a thorough insight of the updates in Urology, and also participate in

the organization in whichever capacity you wish to extend services to the meeting and the

Society, we shall be very happy to accept your help.

You can communicate with me any time regarding anything related to the society on mobile,

whats app, sms, email etc. Wishing you an excellent winter season ahead.

Long live USI.

Warm Regards

USI NEWSLETTER

Friends, this year has been dedicated to bringing in several new initiatives for USI, and towards

implementing resolutions which were passed years ago. Please allow us to submit a report card, including

the initiatives kicked off in recent months by your dedicated team of USI council, with active contribution

from all the members.

USICON's:

?E-voting: At the beginning of the year, after many years of waiting, E-voting became a reality this time

at USICON Bhubaneswar. Henceforth all elections in USI will be held by e-voting.

?The decision to take over conduct of USICON's directly by USI was finally taken, after having passed it

in AGM more than once in past. USICON 2020 Kochi will be the transition stage, and this will be

implemented fully next year onwards.

?The decision taken by AGM many years ago to do away with expensive conference bags and

mementos will be implemented henceforth. The registration fee, including spot registration charges

for USICON have also been capped this year, and serious attempt is being made to bring it down further

in future. The conference registration for senior members above 70 years of age has been made

complimentary.

?The new guidelines for holding conferences have been prepared, and will be implemented after

approval. As far as possible, future conference will be held only in centres with full convention

facilities.

Academic initiatives:

?The process to initiate USI-accredited Sub-specialty fellowships (Post-MCh/DNB) for qualified young

urologists in India has been started.

?Effective steps are being taken to discourage all training programs in Urology for general surgeons

by urologists. USI is seeking legal advice to ensure that non-qualified persons are prohibited from

imparting training in Urology.

?The process for a Urological Cancer registry in India has been initiated. Subsequently, the plan to

expand the central registry to common endourological procedures will also be considered.

?Universal Consent: The process for setting up detailed USI accredited consent forms for all common

urological procedures has been started, and these will soon be uploaded on the USI website. In

addition, listing of complications of common urological surgical procedures, explained in video

format, will also be uploaded on the website.

?Patient education material: Work has been started on preparing a patient education portal on the USI

website, as well as to provide printed matter to the members who wish to use it. A set of experts from

among the members will contribute to this project.

USI projects:

?USI Calendar of Events for the entire year has been prepared in advance. All members are requested

to communicate with and inform the Honorary Secretary and the Central Office regarding all

proposed academic events, to avoid any clash. This has become absolutely necessary in view of

overcrowding of events.

?A USI Handbook is being prepared to compile all information relating to our society in one place. This

handbook will be the one-stop reference book on all USI matters, including constitution, archives, all

guidelines, various application forms, rules and regulations.

?All guidelines relating to various arm and activities of USI are in the process of being reviewed and

Vision Document 2020

Page 5: Official Newsletter of The Urological Society of India Newsletter December 2019.pdf · and our esteemed council have finalized the scientific programme for this annual conference

USI NEWSLETTER

revised to make them contemporary, which will be included in the handbook after approval.

?The proposal to impart a federal structure to USI is being prepared, to allow better coordination at all

levels. Guidelines for State and City chapters will be implemented after approval.

?Along with registration for e-voting, a Census of all USI members is underway, to verify the old

directory listings, and update membership status. Many names in the directory are untraceable, which

will be listed separately.

?A unique Social Security Scheme covering all full members has been proposed, hopefully without

requiring any contribution from members. The details are being worked out, which will be outlined

soon.

?A senior Supreme Court lawyer has been appointed as honorary Legal advisor to USI, to facilitate

obtaining legal advice for the society. He has kindly consented to provide his services on an honorary

basis.

?The Legal cell and Services cells of USI have been constituted after a long gap, with senior and

experienced members of USI as conveners.

?USI headquarters: shifting to a new location is on plans, new location is being finalised on lease basis.

Given the increased quantum of work, expansion of Central Office is in process.

?USI Logo: All these years, USI Logo has been unregistered. The process to set this right has been

initiated.

International standing of USI:

?Majority of important International organisations are now associated with USI (AUA, EAU, UAA, BAUS,

USANZ, Endourology Society) with an MOU with each of them on reciprocal basis.

?We have bilateral MOU's with all our neighbouring countries (Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka), and

have started a new feature 'Best of USI' for each of these neighbouring countries this year.

?A 'Best of AUA' program was conducted successfully for the first time this year, and 'Best of EAU'

program is scheduled in December.

?'SAARC Association of Urological Surgeons' is a reality now, with Dr Madhu Agrawal as the founder rdPresident. The First SAARC Congress is being held on 23 January '20 in conjunction with USICON

2020 at Kochi.

?SIU issue resolution: This long-pending dispute has been resolved now, to the satisfaction of all

involved parties, paving way for restoration of relationship between USI and SIU, once it is approved by

AGM.

An youth wing of USI in the name of 'Young organisation of USI ( YOU )' has been formed. Any full member of USI, less than 45 yrs or within 10 yrs of procuring MCh or DNB in Urology is eligible to be the member of this body. Members actively interested in joining this forum is requested to write to the central office of USI with all their details
