Austin Cops for Charities

Austin Cops for Charities is an IRS tax-exempt, 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. It was created in 2006 by the Austin Police Association Board of Directors. The organization is managed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the President of the Austin Police Association. There are seven members on the board, five are Austin Police Officers of different ranks and two are declared honorary members from the community.

Collectively, the organization’s goals are two-fold. First is to support and assist Austin Police Officers who experience an unanticipated emergency, such as a death of a child or spouse, a severe injury, a diagnosis of a serious illness or a loss outside the officers experience that requires immediate financial assistance.

Secondly, we support community based nonprofit organizations who share common interests that we in the law enforcement community support, such as after school programs that help keep children safe, institutions that help educate our youth to be better citizens and organizations that help improve the quality of life for families who have been traumatized by abuse and neglect.

Throughout the years Austin Cops for Charities has developed a range of partnerships with other nonprofits who share our common concerns. Since 2007 contributions totaling over $314,000.00 have been made to various nonprofits that are making a difference in our local communities. Some of our past and current charity partners include African American Men & Boys Harvest Foundation, the Center for Child Protection and Family Support, Communities in Schools, Council on At-Risk Youth, For the Children, the River City Youth Foundation, Austin Police Department’s Police Explores Program, PAL Program and their Blue Santa Operation, the Greater Austin Crime Commission, Bucky G’s Youth Football Summer Camps and Amigos En Azul’s “Shop with a Cop” Program.

Austin Cops for Charities would not be able to accomplish all that it does without all of our supporters and volunteers who share our goals and our mission.
