Introduction Agricultural Research Institute Mingora

Official message from Head of Department with picture

In early sixties researchers from ARI Tarnab initiated sporadic activities in Malakand division that eventually led to the establishment an Agricultural Research Sub Station Mingora in 1976; upgraded to ARS Mingora in 1980. Owing to remarkable achievements and growing demand of the farming community it was further promoted to Agricultural Research Institute in 2007. Since the inception of agricultural research in Malakand division subsistence farming has been transformed into market oriented farming through improved varieties and production technologies

specifically developed for the growers of Malakand division.

Organization structure

Functions Agricultural Research and Development

Objectives Development of appropriate, safe and cost effective field crops, vegetables & fruit varieties.

Formulation of nutrient requirement, cost effective agronomic practices, integrated pest and disease management (IPM) practices.

Production and distribution of basic seed & fruit nursery saplings to progressive growers.

Development of methods for fruit & vegetable drying, squash making and jams and pickles.

Transmission of improved varieties and technologies through adaptive research, field days, training courses, workshops, seminars, & mass media.

Vision / future plan To be an exemplary center of agricultural inventions and knowledge, so as to lead farmers to a better future by promising varieties and cost effective production technologies while maintaining desirable agro biodiversity and reducing threats posed by climate change.

Achievements Approved 54 renowned varieties including sequential ripening Peaches and Apples.

Introduced new fruits and vegetables types / off season vegetables / tunnel vegetable farming and innovative propagation methods.

Produced and distributed basic seed fruit saplings, rootstocks and bud wood.
