“Stewardship.” It’s an old word, but one you sll hear occasionally these days. For instance, consider these two lines from recent newspaper arcles: •“Polical pundits say this year’s mid-term elecons will be a referendum on the Administraon’s stewardship of government….” •“The quarterback’s careful stewardship of the football helped the team control the clock and win the game….” Both of these examples capture the essence of “stewardship”. Whether it’s a football or a polical office, “stewardship” is the wise and careful management of something that does not belong to us but has been entrusted to us for a me. During the month of October, the Stewardship Ministry Team of Central United Methodist Church is challenging us to consider the “stewardship” of our me, energy, and resources. During our month-long stewardship emphasis, we will be inving, asking, and challenging the members and friends of Central to carefully examine our “use” of those things entrusted to us. Are we “good stewards” of our me, talents, and money – or not? Giving to God has ALWAYS been the central act of worship – not singing hymns, not listening to sermons, not even praying – but GIVING freely and generously to God. However, the reality is that over half the members of Central give NOTHING to support its work. The average member of the United Methodist Church only contributes about 2%, but the Biblical standard for giving has long been the the [10%]. Where do you fit into this picture? Our theme for this 2010 Stewardship Emphasis is “Here I Am, LORD!”, which calls to mind the response made by the prophet Isaiah when he encountered God in the Temple [Isaiah 6:1-8]. When God called for someone to go and work on his behalf, Isaiah responded freely and generously: Here I am, LORD – send me! Our hope is that through the “Finding Financial Freedom” sermon series, the Sunday School lesson plans that are now available for use during October, the stewardship videos that are being shown each week, and through the “Here I Am, LORD!” materials that will be made available to you this month, that you will accept the challenge to be a “good steward” of what has been entrusted to you. On October 31, at both the 8:30 and 10:55 worship services, we will observe “Commitment Sunday”. You will have the opportunity to make your “giving intenon” to Central for 2011. “Stewardship.” It’s an old word, but one you sll hear occasionally these days. For instance, consider these two lines from recent newspaper arcles: •“Polical pundits say this year’s mid-term elecons will be a referendum on the Administraon’s stewardship of government….” •“The quarterback’s careful stewardship of the football helped the team control the clock and win the game….”

Both of these examples capture the essence of “stewardship”.

You will have the opportunity to make your “giving intenon” to Central for 2011.

on the 3rd fl oor. Childcare is available.

During the CWTPs, we will briefl y explore together:•Methodism as part of the Christian tradition

[including a tour of our facilities]•Our vision for the future

•Our expectations of new members at Central

Anyone who becomes a member or wishes to become a member must attend a CWTP. Following each CWTP, persons may immediately join and even be baptized. Pictures of all new members who come to Central via the CWTPs are made and posted on the bulletin board by the Fellowship Hall so

the rest of our congregation can begin to meet and greet them.

We invite you to join us on October 24th for “Coffee with the Pastors”!

CENTRAL UMC‛S “VOLUNTEER OF THE WEEK”

Phyllis Campbell is proud to say that thus far, five generations of her family have been members of Central UMC. It was 62 years ago that she became a member herself. As a member of Martha Wright’s youth program, she participated in everything. As an adult she became a volunteer for the youth ministry programs. She has served on committees such as; Nominations, Staff Parish Relations, Apple Pie Ministry, and Administrative Council. She has served as a delegate to Annual Conference and is now on the Altar Committee. She serves as an acolyte and delivers the altar flowers to shut-ins. In 1970 she helped Meals on Wheels get started in Meridian. She has been serving meals for 40 years with no end in sight. Phyllis Campbell is a wonderful example of Christ’s love. Thank you Phyllis!!!
