Summer Camps Canceled
The Outdoor Ministry Team of the Christian Church in Indiana has made the decision to cancel summer camp for 2020. The decision was made in consultation with our partner camps, the Geneva Camp and Conference Center and the Bedford Camp and Conference Center, and our camp directors.
Taking into account the multitude of ways camp would have to be altered to comply with the guidelines of the CDC, the State of Indiana, and the American Camp Association, we have con-cluded that for the safety of all the campers, staff and volunteers our summer camp programs this year should not go forward.
We know this is disappointing news. Camp plays a significant role in faith development. And while we all grieve this decision, we believe it to be consistent with our commitment to care for all of God's people.
We hold expectation and hope that camp
will resume as normal in the summer of 2021.
Across the Wabash Valley, communities have taken economic hits because of the COVID-19 pandemic. VCSC saw this problem and jumped into action and started an emergency feeding program at 33 locations across the county.
"Right now, we're serving between 23,000 and 30,000 meals per week," Bill Riley, the corporations' Director of Communication said.
He said serving students these past few months have shown the administration the huge need in the community.
"First of all our community needs support. Our community has been hit hard by COVID-19 and we want to do whatever we can to help our children have a comfortable summer," Riley said.
That's why, for the first time ever, the corporation is launching a summer-long grab-and-go feeding program.
"We worry about the summer slide in terms of academics but there's also a summer slide in terms of mental health, emotional wellbeing, and physical wellbeing," he said, "When we get back in the fall we want to see kids as healthy and happy as possible so they're ready to learn," Riley said.
Starting June 1st, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 to noon students will get breakfast and lunch. They'll get a double serving on Monday and Wednesday to fill the rest of the week. Friday, they will get help from the backpack program to get through the weekend. The program will only be taking place at North and South Vigo high school and West Vigo Elementary school.
"We want to feed children, but it comes out of a need from our community," Riley said.
Riley said if you want to help you can donate to their backpack program. You can do that one of two ways, digitally at their website, https://www.vigocountyeducationfoundation.org/ and comment "backpack program" when donating. You can also send a check to the 'Backpack Program VCSC PO box 3257 Terre Haute, IN. 47803.'
You can also learn more about the summer feeding program at the corporations' Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Team.Vigo/

Rebecca’s Revelation
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ! I recall a commercial years ago,
narrated (supposedly) by a cat, who began with something like, “It is day 972 of my
captivity…” Does anyone else feel like this?! I am extremely grateful that I am not
sick, and none of my loved ones are sick (any more). I give thanks that Jeff and I are
able to work from home and we have enough room in our house to provide us with
separate work spaces. I am relieved that church members and friends are not
pressuring me for a date to once again worship in our building – I am still not ready to
give one.
In the big scheme of things, I have nothing to complain about even as COVID-19
continues to wreak havoc in so many lives. One thing I have realized about myself
during this crisis, however, is how much I depend on looking forward to “the next big
thing.” Usually this is a vacation, a special event, or an upcoming play or concert, and
having such things to look forward to often helps me get through days or weeks that are
challenging or overwhelming. I don’t really have anything like this planned right now,
and perhaps you don’t, either.
With this in mind, I thought that we could bring an element of something extra special
into our worship services for this summer. So, I am very happy to announce our
Summer 2020 Worship Series: (drumroll, please)…The Gospel According to Broadway
Volume 2!!!
In 2017, we did a series connecting certain Broadway shows/songs with our
understanding of the good news. I knew that we would eventually do another series
like this one, but with the pandemic, this year seems to be a very appropriate time for
it. Every Sunday starting on June 7 we will highlight a different musical/particular
song that helps us to reflect on the teachings of Jesus or the experiences of our faith
ancestors from the Hebrew Scriptures. This series will include old, familiar shows as
well as newer ones.
Join us as we praise God and welcome a bit of NYC into our lives throughout this
summer!
Stay well, be safe, and God bless you.

Gratitude Campaign!
We know these are difficult times for many of us. We know that out of
chaos, God can lead us and all of creation to order. The skies are
clearer. Waters are bluer. Animals are freer. Remember, there is always
something to be thankful or grateful for in our lives. Research has
proven that the practice of gratitude can have a positive impact on our
overall wellbeing, and practicing gratitude has been a spiritual
discipline for people of faith throughout the millennia. Therefore, CCC is
starting a gratitude campaign. We are asking that you share
statements (1-2 sentences), pictures, and videos (60-seconds) that reflect
thankfulness or gratitude, which will be posted on our social media
platforms. Share only what you are comfortable sharing.
"Give thanks to God, for God is good; God’s love endures forever.”
