• OUR JUDGES •Dogs: Ben Reynolds-Frost (Sin)

Ben was born into a dog family. His Late Mother, Diana Berry, had the famous “SIN” Basenji and Ibizan Hounds and his Father, Frank, had Dalmatians. He started showing at the early age of 10, and retired from showing after winning BOB at Crufts in 2002.

He had his first judging appointment at 15, and gave his first set of CCs in Basenji in 1976 and has since judged them another dozen times. He is the top Basenji judge in the UK, having judged them more times than anybody else. He has judged Basenji in USA, Africa, Finland, CRUFTS, and Australia. The only British judged to have judged in all five countries. The love of his life has always been Whippets.

He is a very sort after Hound judge specialist abroad, and one of only a few British judges passed for ALL the sight hounds. Ben now awards CCs to 29 breeds across 4 groups, the Hound Group, the Working Group and Best in Show. He has judged in many parts of the world.

Ben has been Secretary of the very popular Luton Canine Association which runs the 2 day Premier Open Show just after Christmas for the last 40+ years. He has been a member of the English Kennel Club for 33 years. He was the first Secretary of the Hound Club of East Anglia. He is Life Member of the English Ibizan Hound Club & Luton CA.

His hobbies include Gardening, Classical Music, Ebay, Amazon and Jigsaw Puzzles.

Bitches: Pauline Oliver (Spyanfly)I have to say that my life has been so enjoyable and very full since buying my first pet Whippet in the very early eighties. Our lives were changed forever when my son came home from winning BPIS with our young puppy at an exemption show laden with rosettes and goodies. I have met and become friends with so many like minded people and travelled to many countries and met many lovely and knowledgable folk that I never would have if we had not bought our first Whippet, Suzie.

We have bred very few Whippets in the thirty odd years in the breed. I think we have now reached just over one hundred puppies. We hate the homing procedure of the offspring and wish that we could keep all of the pups for ourselves. Our dogs are very much part of our family life and tend to rule it now that our sons have flown the nest. Our priorities in our breeding plan are breed type, health, temperament, sound, easy and low movement and nowadays we are very conscious of correct size where as in the past it was not such a priority. Also very important to me is to keep the elegance in our breed. Quality and showmanship are the icing on the cake.

Ch Spyanfly Say No More (Timothy) my dog of a lifetime who was very lightly used at stud never achieved winning a CC at Crufts but he did win the Reserve CC from the Veteran class there. The same year as his daughter Ch Bluestreak Beauty Of Bath won her second CC there also from the Veteran Class. Her half sister Ch Bluestreak Brief Encounter sired by Timothy also won the CC there. The highpoint of Timothy’s career was going BIS at the prestigious Houndshow. We are very proud to have bred and owned three generations of Crufts winners coming down from ‘Say No More’. His daughter our bitch of a lifetime Ch/Int Ch Spyanfly Say It’s Bardo won BOB and Group 3 there. Also winning Top Hound 2004. Her daughter Ch Spyanfly Sharon Stone by Ch.Fullerton Dream Mover also won the CC there and her granddaughter by Sharon Stone’s son Spyanfly Set In Stone again won the CC there. Timothy has also had two AI litters one in the States and one in Sweden both producing champions. Of course our first Crufts CC was won in 1992 when our homebred and half brother to Timothy, Ch Spyanfly He’s Atrooper won the dog ticket there opposite Ch Nutshell Of Nevedith who went on to Reserve Best In Show. I cannot omit adding here that both my boys were out of a bitch Selinko Celestial Star of Spyanfly. Barry and Carole Kennet offered me to pick a bitch from a litter they had on the ground at that time as a gift when I had sadly lost a whole litter. How fortuitous that was.

I have been very fortunate in having been invited to judge in many countries around the world and it has been a very exciting and educational experience seeing where other countries are going with their breeding programmes and seeing the results. Of course now we are very much ‘going international’ and importing and exporting as never before which is very exciting seeing our breed evolve. My most exciting appointment to date will be prior to this show which is judging the American Whippet Club National in Maryland which is held over a period of almost a week. I have the honour of being the first Brit to have been voted to do this by the club members.

I am also very honoured to have been asked to judge the bitches here today for the EAWC a show that just gets better and better. Thank you very much for entrusting me to judge your treasured whippies and hope you enjoy your day as much as I foresee.

Special Award Classes/JHA: Rachel Smith (Citycroft)Having been brought up with dogs and attending dog shows as a child, I got my first whippet for my 15th birthday present; a brindle rescue boy, Tizer who lived to the grand old age of 17. After my sister and I had both left home we decided to re-enter the dog show world and were very fortunate that our first show whippet Frankie; Stormburst Sparkling Water at Citycroft went on to win 1 CC and 3 RCCs; including the RCC at Crufts 2010. His full sister Ruby; Stormburst Winter Sparkles for Citycroft JW ShCM followed soon after and as well as being very successful in the show ring she proved to be a wonderful brood bitch and has produced 11 championship show winners for us. The Citycroft partnership is now held with my sister Jo Keenan and good friend Anita Mixides. We are actively and successfully campaigning Ruby’s children and grandchildren; who are CC, RCC and JW winners.

My proudest moment in the breed ring to date is winning the DCC with our home bred boy Ned; Citycroft Never Forget at Birmingham National last year. My dogs (several who aren’t shown) are all a big part of family life; from being my young daughter’s best friends to going on long walks and family holidays. Their beauty, fabulous temperaments and lust for life are why I love the breed so much.

I feel privileged to have been invited to judge the breed on multiple occasions and am very much looking forward to getting the opportunity to judge at EAWC.

Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best in Show.

Best Puppy in Show must be selected from puppies which have been judged and which are unbeaten by any other puppy. Withdrawal from other Competition: Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition,

A dog beaten in competition for Best in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition.

Proviso: For the purposes of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs.

13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management.

14. No modifications will be made to the Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.

15. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition. 16. All dogs resident outside of the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event

can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor. 17. Dogs in Cars on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance

to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. • When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave

earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. • If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. • The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. • Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. • When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. • Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so

your dog stays well hydrated. • Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after

your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations.
