Kia ora, Talofa lava, hello! COVID – 19 UPDATE As you will know we are in times that are changing rapidly as new information comes to hand. New information and changes will be the norm during the next few days and weeks. At school, we see our role as providing normal routines, to reassure our children and our community. We are continuing to monitor the Ministry of Health initiatives to makes changes and put in place the latest information as soon as possible. The Ministry of Education (MOE) continues to update us as well. The MOE has a great reference page for families and schools https://www.education.govt.nz/school/health-safety-and-wellbeing/pastoral-care-and-wellbeing/talking-to-children-about- covid-19-coronavirus/ We continue to reinforce the importance of hygiene. Teachers are also reminding children about handwashing and drying, avoiding touching their faces and of coughing or sneezing into their elbow, rather than their hands. We have adopted the 'no hugs, no handshakes and no hongi' approach as mentioned by Jacinda Ardern in the weekend. We would really appreciate you reinforcing these messages at home. The latest information sees events or gatherings of 500+ people being cancelled or postponed. We have decided to postpone whole school assemblies until further notice, based on the MOE guidelines released yesterday. Thank you to everyone for keeping children who are sick at home. This is an important part of keeping our whole community as well as possible during this uncertain time. If your child is feeling unwell, please do not send them to school. If your child displays symptoms during the school day that indicate they are unwell, we will request that they go home. Please make sure that your contact details are up to date. Please be aware that on return to New Zealand from overseas travellers are asked to self-isolated for 14 days. The Ministry of Health has advised that there can be people self-isolating, and those that are at work or school in the same house. COVID – 19 UPDATE

As you will know we are in times that are changing rapidly as new information comes to hand. New information and changes

will be the norm during the next few days and weeks. At school, we see our role as providing normal routines, to reassure

our children and our community.

We are continuing to monitor the Ministry of Health initiatives to makes changes and put in place the latest information as

Te Ara Tika o Ōpāwa (The right path for Ōpāwa)

Children can earn vouchers for demonstrating our school values. This term’s value is Manaakitanga /Respect and each

fortnight six children are selected to have a pizza lunch with Sally in the Boardroom. The pizzas are generously sponsored

by Cassels and sons – The Brewery. The following children enjoyed pizza with Sally on Monday: Sophia & Abel Rm1, Sophie

Rm3, Abel Rm4, Zarah, Marlon & Ihaaka Rm9

Six children are also selected with Gotchas, who can then have a day in mufti with their buddy. The following

children were selected: Sophie & Zoe Rm13, Trinity, Ken & Ava Rm18.

Secondhand uniforms are sold at a local shop called ‘little one; which is located at 132 Opawa Road.

The uniform should be clean, tidy and named.

Only the long sleeved Ōpāwa School undergarment (gunmetal grey) should be visible under the Ōpāwa polo shirt.

Socks/tights - plain navy, black or white.

Shoes must be black, brown or predominantly white trainers, leather shoes or sandals.

School sun hats must be worn in Terms 1 and 4. Plain black or beige bucket/wide brimmed hat or cap.

No nail polish and/or makeup to be worn at school.

Coloured hair is not appropriate.

Hair accessories: plain black, nave or orange headbands, ties, ribbons, bows or clips. Ties, ribbons, bows or clips to be no longer than 8cm in diameter.

Drawing on skin and tattoo transfers are not acceptable.

One piece swimming togs are recommended.

No jewellery should be worn except watches and ear studs or sleepers. No other earrings. Any other jewellery, including rings and necklaces can be a safety hazard and are not to be worn at school. All jewellery must be removed for sport. Variations due to cultural or religious beliefs are allowed on written request from parents/caregivers.

VIOLIN TUITION Born in Moldova, one of the ex-Soviet Union republics. Academical degree, Graduated of Moldavian State Conservatorium: Diploma

in Speciality String Instruments – Violin, Soloist interpreter/ Symphonic Orchestra Artist/ Chamber Ensemble Artist/ Music Teacher.

Violin player of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, solo and chamber group performer, leader of the Resonance Ensemble.

More than 30 years teaching experience and 27 of playing in Symphony orchestra in both countries Moldova and New Zealand.

During the time in Moldavian Symphony Orchestra performed in La Scala, Sala Verdi in Milano. Has also, performed on other,

prestigious stages in Italy, Spain. Germany, Switzerland, Romania.

Being in New Zealand, has touring with CSO to Japan. Performed with CSO on the same stage with such celebrities as Dianna

Krall, Cliff Richard, George Benson, Serj Tankian, and Andrea Bocelli.

Currently teaching at CSM, SDMS, St.Martins, Opawa, Hillview Christian School and privately both Violin and Viola, Theory of Music.

Cornelia Didenco came to New Zealand, 19 years ago. Married. 3 children.

Enjoying family activities, gardening, cooking, accompanied by two cats and two cockatiels.
