News Grace and Blessings to you all! Throughout this Jubilee Year of Mercy, and especially as we now come to its conclusion, I am routinely reminded of the desire within all of us to see, know, and understand God and His love for us. This is why, I believe, Pope Francis has called us to have a real “experience of the Mercy of God.” So many of our pilgrims here at the Shrine every year find this encounter with God through Mary, our Mother. She truly is the Mother of Mercy. For centuries, Christians all over the world have cried out to the Blessed Virgin Mary, placing themselves under her tender care as our Mother and guide. There has never been such a time, as right now, when her help was more needed in the lives of her children. God, the Father, willed that the grandeur of His love, the extravagance of divine mercy, would come to us through a holy doorway: The Virgin Mary. The Shrine continues to be a place of great comfort and consolation to those who visit and seek refuge in the arms of Mary. The most common experience that people take away from this Shrine is the one most sought after; peace. All of us here at the Shrine have been working hard to facilitate an encounter with Christ through Mary and the Church. We have made several important enhancements to the Shrine and continue with many exciting events and opportunities coming up in the months ahead. Father Ubald will be celebrating Holy Mass and Eucharistic healing services here at the Shrine on Sunday October 2nd and Saturday October 29th. It is always a great blessing for us here at the Shrine and for all who come and participate in Fathers Ubald’s ministry and the healing power of the Blessed Sacrament. The month of October is traditionally dedicated to The Blessed Mother and to the Holy Rosary. Mary’s role in the Church is to bring us closer to her Son and the Rosary is a Christocentric setting forth of the entire life of Jesus Christ in His passion, death, resurrection and glory.

No form of extra-liturgical devotion to Mary is more widely practiced among the faithful or found by them to be more satisfyingly complete than the Rosary; and rightly so as this devotion comes directly from the hand of the Blessed Virgin Herself.

October 7th marks the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary. The Church chose that day and, apparently by extension, the month of October to honor Our Lady of the Rosary because of her powerful assistance to those who pray the Rosary. The feast of the Holy Rosary on October 7th celebrates the victory at Lepanto, the battle that saved the Christian West from defeat at the hands of the Ottoman Turks. This day was won, it is believed, because Saint Pope Pius V called on all Christians to pray the Rosary.

The power and importance of the Rosary in the popular piety of the Catholic devotional life must not be underestimated. It has often been referred to as the compendium to the Gospel. Pope Benedict XVI in an

The Immaculate Heart Fund offers different options for you to memorialize your loved ones and become a faithful steward of the mission of the Shrine. With our “Memorial Bricks” we are offering personalized paver bricks to become part of the walkway leading around the outdoor Stations of the Cross. You can support the Shrine by donating a brick engraved with a special message or a name. We can also engrave a cross on the brick at no extra cost. In years to come, you and your family and friends will be reminded of your stewardship by your permanently engraved paver brick. Please note, bricks will be emplaced and dedicated with a special blessing each May and November.

We are also placing “Memorial Benches”, constructed of weather-proof, recycled plastic material, around the Shrine grounds to allow our pilgrims a

place for peaceful reflection. You can support the Shrine by donating a bench to commemorate a special occasion, or to honor or remember a loved one. Please note, the memorial benches will be placed and dedicated with a special blessing each May and November.

The benches have “Our Lady of Good Help, Pray for Us” inscribed on the back lower rail. Up to 2 lines of text with up to 30 characters per line can be added on

the upper rails. The suggested donation for each bench is $1200.

Memorial bricks come in two sizes. For a suggested donation of $125 each, a 4”x8” memorial brick containing up to the three lines of text with up to 20 characters per line can be engraved and placed. For a suggested donation of $200 each, an 8”x8” paver containing up to six lines of text with up to 20 characters per line can be engraved and placed.

address at the Basilica of St. Mary Major said:

Today, together we confirm that the Holy Rosary is not a pious practice banished to the past, like prayers of other times thought of with nostalgia. Instead, the Rosary is experiencing a new Spring time… In the current world, so dispersive, this prayer helps to put Christ at the center, as the Virgin did, who meditated within all that was said about her Son, and also what he did and said.

The best way to celebrate the month of the Holy Rosary is, of course, to pray the rosary! Let us all join together in prayer and devotion to Mary by meditating on the mysteries of our Christian religion contained in the Most Holy Rosary!
