D uring the month of October the Youth are collecting new or used tools to donate to
Tools for Empowerment. Once collect-ed, the tools will be dropped off at the warehouse, cleaned, and shipped to new graduates in Haiti. Your used tools may look worthless to you, but are priceless to a young entrepreneur in Haiti. Receiving a tool kit is a life-changing event for their whole family. Clean out your garage. Give a new life to tools that you no longer need. Help a family in Haiti become self-reliant. Pick up a Trick or Treat for Tools bag in the foyer today! Deadline to donate is Oc-tober 30th, at Trunk or Treat! Thanks!

O ne purpose of prayer is to release your pain and cast it upon Christ when you are
hurting. If you can’t fix it, just let it go. Why carry it around? Leave the outcome to Him. That is what the cross is all about. Resentment is a weight around your soul. Leave it at the cross, where Jesus suffered and died to remove all the sin, of all the broken relationships, in all the world, throughout all of history! That is the power of prayer. That is the power of the cross. So why would anyone cling to resentment for one second longer?
The Parable of the Prodigal Son is more than a story. Jesus wanted you to know that ridding your life of resentment is a real possibility. You can choose a new future. In-stead of spending your time in sadness and regret, imagine better days—then create them! How? Bless those who speak ill of you. Pray for those who hurt you. Do good to those who disappoint you. Do not waste another minute in anger or hate. With each kind word, prayer, and deed, you reverse the effects of sin. Negative emotions that injure you and isolate you will dissipate. In their place, the seeds you sow of grace and goodwill will produce a harvest of righteousness. When you think loving thoughts, say loving words, and do loving deeds, resentment cannot grow in your heart.
Jesus died to remove all the sin, of all the broken
relationships, in all the world, throughout all of history!
Thirteenth Place Champion, Andy Garner
O ur world has become fanatical when it comes to sports. We love to cheer on our
favorite players and teams be it, youth, high school, college or professional. “The
thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” is felt by athletes, as well as fans and
the success and failure of the teams we support, for some, can even dictate our mood and
attitude. We can certainly allow sports to become a negative in our lives placing too much
importance or emphasis on being the best, however, from a spiritual standpoint, sports
may teach us valuable life lessons.
We see from scripture certain characteristics that Christians should have as they relate to
an athlete striving for excellence. In I Corinthians 9:24-27 we learn important lessons
about disciplining ourselves as we reach for a goal. In II Timothy 2:5 we learn the concept
of playing by the rules and in Hebrews 12:1 we learn the importance of running with en-
durance. The danger we face is that we may fall into a trap of being too competitive, self-
seeking or find ourselves developing a “win at all cost” mentality.
In sports, we strive to be first, however, in our Christian lives we understand there to be a
different measure for what God looks for in a champion. Jesus told his apostles in Mark 9:35 that if we desire to be first, we
will make ourselves last, and lowest of servants. The scribes and Pharisees were condemned in Matthew 23:6 because they
sought for themselves the highest places of honor at the feast and in the synagogues. Jesus further instructed his disciples in
Luke 14:10 to sit at the lowest place of honor when invited. To our limited wisdom and understanding, it seems counter intu-
itive, but the Bible reveals to us that to be God’s champion we must strive for last place in our relationships with others. In
Philippians 2:3 we are told that none of our actions should be for selfish ambitions, but that we are to think of and esteem
others better than ourselves. Humility and placing others before ourselves is a cornerstone concept of a Christ-like life. In
Romans 12:16, we are admonished not to be proud and think too highly of ourselves but to be humble-minded in all things
so that we may receive grace from the Father, I Peter 5:5.
My hope and prayer for our family at PTC is that we all strive to be Last Place! This last place is not achieved by apathy or lack
of effort, rather by following the fundamentals mentioned earlier of discipline, playing by the rules and running with endur-
ance. Application of these Biblical principles in a focused, deliberate effort in striving to put others before ourselves, will help
us win last place; but oh what a reward for God’s Thirteenth Place Champions await!
T he devil is a bold challenger, who fights dirty, tells lies, and uses every trick to defeat those who belong to the Lord.
He does not care who he hurts or what peace he disrupts, as long as he can lead the saved away from God and His
teaching (2 Corinthians 11:13-15; Ephesians 6:10-13).
Jesus described the devil in John 8:44, “He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because
there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” The
devil hasn’t changed.
With the world on the outside not understanding the Lord properly, and many brethren on the inside seeking to restructure
what God teaches, those who hold fast to the truth have their work before them.
We can win this good fight if we draw close to God and resist the devil (James 4:7-8). We must never forget the Lord has laid
up for us a crown of righteousness, if we remain faithful and love his appearing. Don’t let anything come between God and
you.
We seek to help everyone to come to know the Lord and to win the good fight of faith. We preach truth, because the truth
is stronger than lies. We preach with love, because we represent the God of love and kindness. Help us in our quest to win a
lost and dying world to Jesus.
