A New Year Challenge Aubrey Johnson

T wo things are essential for you to have a successful new year. First, you must accept responsibility for creating the outcomes you desire. For in-stance, if you want to grow in wisdom and knowledge, you must decide to

read your Bible regularly. Scripture is the seed of the kingdom (Luke 8.11). No seed, no fruit. No reading, no growth. Make up your mind to develop the habit of daily Bible reading to grow more Christlike (2 Peter 3.18).

Second, you must decide to follow-though on your decision. Many people are starters, but few are finishers. Along with responsibility, you need reliability. This is what the year of perseverance is all about. Some people call it stick-to-itiveness. Others call it grit. Whatever you call it, reliability is essential to success. To reap bountifully you must sow bountifully, and to grow abundantly you must read abundantly.

An Unwanted Gift? Andy Garner

P ain is something none of us want to endure, and yet

pain and discomfort are often signs of issues that

need to be addressed in our lives. I read about a

physical condition called “Congenial Analgesia” which in

essence causes people to literally feel No Pain. Those who

suffer from this condition often times cause themselves

grave physical damage because the

warnings our body produce to let us

know something is wrong, simply do

not exist. Our desire to “feel no pain”

is evidenced by the countless choices

of pain relievers available to us. Pain is

the gift we don’t want but many times

its presence can help us to be protect-

ed from further harm.

I believe as Christians we are fortunate

when pain strikes. Sometimes it helps

remind us that we are not our own.

God is in control. He has promised to

give us no more than we can bear. We

need to remember that when pain is present there is usually

a cause and a purpose, even though we often struggle to

identify them. Sometimes, like Paul, it helps give us inner

strength and focus. Remember 2 Corinthians 12:7, “And lest

I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of rev-

elations, a thorn in the flesh was given me, a messenger of

Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Con-

cerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times, that it

might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is suffi-

cient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities

that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Often the pain we experience in our spiritual lives is a direct

result of our sins, our lack of faith and

trust in the Lord and our unwillingness

to submit to God’s direction. In He-

brews 12:3-11, Paul reminds us the

pain and discomfort we endure pales

in comparison to the suffering of Christ

and that we are not asked to wage war

against the devil to the point of death.

Paul goes on to instruct us that we are

to embrace the discomfort we face

and not to be discouraged or hide from

the chastening and correction of our

Heavenly Father. Paul’s message con-

tinues by saying that not only should

we embrace, but we should count it a

blessing knowing that the working of our discomfort is

profitable to us as we are made partakers of His Holiness. If

we receive no chastening, it may seem like all is good, and

joyful, just like those who “feel no pain”. However, enduring

that instruction, development and discipline yields the

peaceful fruits of righteousness. Let’s make 2016 the year

we step out of our “Comfort Zone” in service to our Fami-

lies, our Church and most especially our Father.

F irst, things first…TODAY is the FINAL DAY to submit your registration forms for the 2016 Lads to Leaders Convention!

Please check the list to confirm your child is signed up for the right events. Also, if you are staying at the Marriott, please provide your info on hotel sign up. Both are posted on the bulletin board across from the office.

Now, moving on.

Do you love God? Do you love kids? Do you love helping kids grow closer to God?

If you answered yes to these questions, then CONGRATULATIONS, you meet all the qualifications to join the Lad’s to Leaders Ministry Team!

I know what you are thinking, “This is a dream come true, how can I find out more?!?” Well today is your lucky day! At the Ministry Expo, you’ll find the Lad’s to Leaders Ministry Job Fair Booth. Here, you can get job descriptions, have your questions an-swered and get hired on the spot.

No experience? No problem! No refer-ences? No problem! No desire to be a positive Christian influence in the lives of our young people who are the leaders of the Lord’s church of tomorrow? Ok, that’s a problem. But here’s your oppor-tunity to change that! What better day

than today? What better time than now? Come by and see us at the Lads to Leaders Ministry Job Fair Booth today.
