We will soon have a new school for all “Glasgow” elementary students, and if the name has to change, why not name it appropriately – Glasgow Elementary School. It sounds to me that the Irle family is accepting of that, and they pointed out an awesome tradition – a new school gets a new name. My kids were fortunate to attend the Southside School, a block away from their home located in the Original Townsite of Glasgow (that is a whole other burr under the saddle, because in my opinion it was one of the stupidest things that happened – closing the Southside school, especially after extensive repairs and remodels were made in the years just prior to it being tore down – sad day in the hood). Once the doors closed, all students were forced to go to the north side. Anybody with roots here will likely recall that back in the day, there was a separation, I’ll call it, of the schools – Irle, Eastside and Southside. Wouldn’t it be great to welcome all of the elementary age kids to their new Glasgow Elementary School? ~ Tan Leckie (I have a grandson in 2nd grade.)

This will be held on Saturday, October 25th from 1-3 p.m. at the Glasgow Elks Lodge. If you have costumes you would like to donate you can drop them off at the Glasgow High School or the Glasgow Public Library, or you can call/text Melani at 406-839-1085. The Girl Scouts’ goal is that everyone has the opportunity to have a Halloween Costume to wear. The store will be open to everyone.

Gettin’ ready for Spook Day

How the fight

started...

I told my wife that a husband is like a fine wine; he gets better with age. The next day, she locked me in the cellar. –––––––– I haven’t verified this on Snopes, but it sounds legit… A recent study found that women who carry a little extra weight live longer than the men who mention it.

“Help for Health Hospice Home” and their “Loving Care Giving Staff” in helping Mom (with no discomfort or pain) on her “epic journey” to be reunited with Dad, God and other family and friends. It was an awesome trip for all of us to see Mom totally at peace and looking forward toherfinalroadtrip.

• To Jamie Davis of Davis Funeral Home, Riverton, Wyoming, to fulfill all ofMom’s wishes upon herpassing over to the letter.

• To our Glasgow businesses: BS Central, Glasgow Courier, KLTZ/KLAN Radio stations and Scobey’s Daniel andCounty Leader Newspaper for helping us keep in touch with our family and friends of Mom’s passing, aswellasMom’smemorialservice date.

• To Steve and Kent Bell of Valley Monuments for the beautiful monument and their ability to incorporate everything we wished on it to honor our Mother.

• To the Glasgow Flower and Gift Shop for the awesome floralarrangements.

• To Kevin Nelson for letting us use the Opheim LutheranChurchforMom’sservice.

• Andfinally, to theOpheimLutheran Church group of ladies who put together and served a wonderful food variety and drinks to bring us all back together after Mom’s gravesideservice.

The family of Rex and Jody Opheim saw in her passing that she was truly surrounded by love and prayers. With the above poem, brother Berney wrote to Mom for “Mother’s Day”, and sister Loni’s writing of “Mom’s Final Day”, Mom was able to pass with a smile on her face and a total blessed peace. Our gratitude is expressed to all of you for the caring attention, thoughts, prayers and dedication you gave Mom and us. “God bless you all” for your call and answer to service for our Mother. With love and total appreciation, thank you. . . . .

Representative Steve Daines today called for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for several Montana counties, including Valley County, to repair damages caused by late summer flooding. In a letter to President Obama, Daines pressed the White House to honor the State of Montana’s request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and Blaine, Carter, Musselshell, Valley and Petroleum Counties. Severe flooding resulting from several bands of storms from August 21 to August 25 caused significant damage in these areas. “The flooding, nearly unprecedented at this time of year, caused severe damage to buildings, infrastructure and homes and created considerable hardships for Montana communities. Additionally, we have seen crops destroyed across the region making the livelihoods of many Montanans difficult to sustain,” Daines wrote in the letter to President Obama. “While I understand that Governor Bullock has committed significant state funds to this recovery effort, I believe a federal component is essential to make the necessary repairs as it is beyond the financial means of the state.”

Senator Jon Tester’s haircut may be from the 1950s, but he knows that being COOL never gets old. COOL – Country of Origin Labeling – allows American families to know where the meat they buy at the store is raised and processed. Tester is a staunch supporter of the rule, saying that consumers have the right to know where their food comes from and that U.S. producers have the right to market their livestock as born and raised in America. But with the popular rule still under consideration at the World Trade Organization (WTO), Tester sent Senate leaders a bipartisan letter urging them to reject any efforts to weaken or suspend COOL rules as Congress works on end-of-the-year funding legislation. Tester’s letter, which is signed by fellow Montana Senator John Walsh, highlights how earlier this year the Senate Appropriations Committee rejected attempts to weaken or suspend COOL enforcement. sense food labeling.” “The bottom line is that the overwhelming majority of Americans want to know the origin of the meat they feed their families. American should not be deprived of that information,” Tester said.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the Montana Department of Livestock remind hunters that horses are required to have a brand inspection before crossing county lines. “It’s a pretty common violation during hunting season,” said John Grainger, Brands Enforcement Division administrator for DOL. “Producers move livestock all the time and are generally familiar with transportation requirements, but sometimes hunters just don’t know.” Grainger recommends that hunters get their horses inspected in advance of their planned departure. The fine for not having a proper inspection is $135.The inspection is good for a year of movement, or one can obtain an inspection good for the life of the horse. “If you hunt on horses, just add getting a brand inspection to your check list,” Grainger said. An annual inspection costs $6, and a lifetime is $25. A map of brand inspectors by county can be found on the DOL website at liv.mt.gov; click “Brands Enforcement” then “Service Map.” Annual and lifetime inspections can also be issued at livestock markets, which are also marked on the online map.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking comments on a draft environmental assessment on a proposal to purchase 2,840 acres adjoining Beartooth Wildlife Management Area from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. The proposed Whitetail Prairie property is located east of Wolf Creek. The property contains very important intermountain/foothill grassland habitat and recreational values. In addition to the acquisition, the grazing leases on adjoining Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) lands associated with the Whitetail Prairie property would be transferred to FWP, 200 and 640 acres respectively. A public meeting on the proposed conservation easement will be held at the Wolf Creek School, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. A draft EA on the proposal is available for public viewing and comments on the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov click public notices. Comments may be submitted via the FWP website, emailed to [email protected] or mailed to: FWP, Attn: Whitetail Prairie Acquisition, 4600 Giant Springs Road, Great Falls, MT 59405. The comment deadline is 5 p.m., Nov. 4.
