PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR
OCTOBER 2020
On Saturday morning, September 19, 2020, a group of volunteers from the parish donated both time and resources to help improve the area behind the school. One parishioner donated the purchase of topsoil, another donated the use of a skid steer, and several donated their Saturday morning to fill in ruts and low spots, and improve the ball diamonds. Thank you to Chris Sweeney, Terry Boyden, Rick Kinetz, Jim Sullivan, and Ron Belord for helping to make improvements for everyone that uses the fields and area behind the school!
THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS!
VITO 5KThe 7th Annual Super FUN Run: A 5K for Heroes will be held virtually this year. We are certainly disappointed that we will not be with you all this year, but we are absolutely thrilled that we can still hold this race to honor the life and legacy of Vito Nocero. As with our past races, all proceeds and donations will benefit the Our Lady
of Perpetual Help SPICE Program (Special People in Catholic Education) and the Marburn Academy Vito Nocero Scholarship Fund. This year’s race window will be October 31 – November 7. Check out the website for full details about the race, pricing, and online registration! runsignup.com/avirtual5kforheroes.

HELP OUR PARISH BETTER COMFORT THOSE AFFECTED BY SUICIDE
Our pastoral minister, Marti Hurd, is seeking donations in order to attend a training seminar given by one of North America’s most respected bereavement educators and clinicians, Dr. Alan Wolfelt, of the Center for Loss and Life Transition. This seminar will be held in Fort Collins, Colorado, and the topic is Suicide Grief, Companioning the Mourner.
We all know that, unfortunately, suicide rates are on the rise and it is important that we as a parish are equipped to help families and friends who experience this devastation.
The cost of the seminar is $995, plus hotel and airfare costs. However, Marti has already received $500 toward the total! Please consider supporting Marti in learning about this important topic. By helping to fund Marti’s education in this area, she will also be able to mentor others in our parish and community in how to best serve our parish when instances of suicide occur. Donations may be made out to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and placed in the offertory boxes or turned in to the church office. Please indicate on your check or donation that this is for “Grief training.”
FAREWELL GIFT FOR FATHER JIMIn gratitude for all that Father Jim Colopy has done for our parish, we are planning to set up a college scholarship fund for Father Jim’s nephews, Miles and Wesley. If you and your family wish to contribute to the scholarship fund, please submit your donation made payable to Father Jim Colopy (write on the bottom of the check and/or envelope “Fr. Jim scholarship donation.”
if you want your name included on a large card for Fr. Jim, include either an address label or a small post-it note with your name on it and that can easily be attached to the card. Donations should be received at the parish office by Monday, October 5.
Note: Fr. Jim will be moving to Lancaster St. Mary Parish at the end of October.

is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are his cherished plant;he looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed!for justice, but hark, the outcry!
RESPONSORIAL PSALMPsalm 80:9, 12, 13-14, 15-16, 19-20
R. The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel.A vine from Egypt you transplanted;you drove away the nations and planted it.It put forth its foliage to the Sea,its shoots as far as the River.
R. The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel. Why have you broken down its walls,so that every passer-by plucks its fruit,The boar from the forest lays it waste, and the beasts of the field feed upon it?
R. The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel.Once again, O LORD of hosts, look down from heaven, and see;take care of this vine, and protect what your right hand has plantedthe son of man whom you yourself made strong.
R. The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel. Then we will no more withdraw from you;give us new life, and we will call upon your name.O LORD, God of hosts, restore us;if your face shine upon us, then we shall be saved.
R. The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel.

READING I Isaiah 5:1-7Let me now sing of my friend,my friend’s song concerning his vineyard. My friend had a vineyardon a fertile hillside;he spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines;within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes, but what it yielded was wild grapes. Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard:What more was there to do for my
vineyardthat I had not done? Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes? Now, I will let you knowwhat I mean to do with my vineyard:take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall, let it be trampled!Yes, I will make it a ruin:it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers;I will command the cloudsnot to send rain upon it.The vineyard of the LORD of hosts

known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you.
GOSPELMatthew 21:33-43
Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people: “Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned. Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’ They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?” They answered him, “He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times.” Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION(Saint Alphonsus Liguori)
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.

HELP OUR SCHOOL!If you have not done so already, please take a moment to download the Box Tops For Education App. It allows you to scan your grocery receipt in a matter of seconds and automatically identifies any qualifying items you’ve purchased and then earns money for Our Lady of Perpetual Help! Couldn’t be easier! You’re buying groceries anyway —this does not require you to spend any additional money but makes a huge impact for the school if everyone participates. THANK YOU!

Quote CornerTurn around and believe that the good news that we are loved is better than we ever dared hope, and that to believe in that good news, to live out of it and toward it, to be in love with that good news, is of all glad things in this world the gladdest thing of all. Amen, and come Lord Jesus.”
