    Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a wel-

coming, vibrant faith community building the king-

dom of God through our many ministries. We cele-

brate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each

member of our parish, as we are all joined together

under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangeliza-

tion, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In

the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to

others through stewardship, education, and worship.

    A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT

After healing the blind man in todays Gospel Jesus toldhim to go, to be on his way. But the man decided tofollow Jesus. Being a disciple of Jesus is a choice. Thestewardship way of life likewise involves a choice, in

fact many choices. We choose to be grateful, we chooseto live generously, and we choose to trust that God willalways provide for our needs. These are three choicescentral to the stewardship way of life. What choices willwe make this week that give witness to our decision tofollow Christ?

    Volunteers Needed

The Christ the King PADS Program (Public Action toDeliver Shelter) is looking for two volunteers (one manand one woman) to work the early shift on Mondaymorning (after the 3rd Sunday of each month) from 3:00am to 7:00 am. Its a Dog Life

    The Problem of Suffering

Wednesday Oct. 31 at 9:00 am

    East room of the rectory

Humanity continues to grapple with the experience ofsuffering. In doing so some have concluded that therecannot be a God. They assert that God cannot be both all-powerful and all-loving because if He were, He would

prevent or end suffering. The Christian worldview standsin stark opposition to this understanding for it maintainsthat God is all-powerful and all-loving. This premiseleads to a discussion of Gods active and passivewills. The course looks to the various sources of suffer-ing, the gift of free will and the place of miracles.

    Rehearsals Begin November 7

by the Servant of God ~ Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J.

Lord Jesus Christ, You told us to give to Caesar what

belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God.

Enlighten the minds of our people [in] America. May we

choose a President of the United States, and other gov-

ernment officials, according to Your Divine Will. Give

our citizens the courage to choose leaders of our nation

who respect the sanctity of unborn human life, the sanc-

tity of marriage, the sanctity of marital relations, the

sanctity of the family, and the sanctity of the aging.

Grant us the wisdom to give You, what belongs to You,

our God. If we do this, as a nation, we are confident You

will give us an abundance of Your blessings through our

    elected leaders. Amen. www.hardonsj.org

Being a Steward of Jesus means that we are not alone

on our life's journey. We are given guidance, direc-tion, and support as we face the challenges of our

human life. God's love and compassion surround us

as we seek to see the right path and avoid being

    blinded by selfishness and sin.

After countless medical tests, all signs point to one underlying factor:Hannah's difficult birth. This revelation is nothing compared to what she then learns from her parents: shewas actually adopted after a failed abortion attempt.

Bewildered, angered, and confused, Hannah turns for support to Jason, her oldest friend. Encouraged byhis adventurous spirit, Hannah joins his group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, embarking on a jour-ney to discover her hidden past and find hope for her unknown future.
