Second Street School Parent Teacher Student Association (SSS PTSA) – General Membership Meeting
Call to order The SSS PTSA General Membership Meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. on
Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Second Street School.
Roll Call A quorum was present. The list of members in attendance is attached.
Minutes /Agenda Susan Coblin motioned to approve the agenda. Christa Sweger seconded.
Motion carried.
The minutes from the August general membership meeting were approved.
Cindy Aossey informed members that the minutes and other information would
be available on the PTSA website.
Principal’s Report Ms. Amy Harris asked parents to complete the Kentucky Safe Schools survey.
Computers were made available at the meeting to take the survey.
President’s Report The SSS PTSA won $100 from the state PTA from its Early Bird Drawing and
Membership competition.
Membership Report The PTSA currently has 67 members.
Communications ReportNone.
Programs Report Math Night was a success. The teachers were commended for their efforts and
FRYSC was thanked for the chili supper. It is hoped that this will be an annual
event.
Staff Appreciation There is a bulletin board in the main hall for new employees. Mr. Robinson’s
door was decorated for Custodial Workers’ Day. Students at the meeting were
invited to decorate ‘Thank you’ banners for the cafeteria.
Treasurers Report Report attached
Ways and Means The PTSA’s fundraising plan was approved by the School Board and work is
underway on the fundraising schedule.
Old Business: CIPL was discussed. This is a two-day parent development workshop. Several
individuals are working on setting a date and signing up parents.
New Business: 1. The FMS Academic Team, sponsored by Ms. Thomas and Ms. Holmes to
purchase the 2014-2015 test material. Ms. Best moved approval of the request.
Ms. Duvall-Shaw seconded. Motion passed.
2. Immediate efforts for fundraising include the Wall-E ecycling bin, Kroger
Community Rewards Program, and the Arts Night silent auction and
concessions.
3. Arts Night will be held November 12th from 6:00-7:30 with a band concert
from 7:30 – 8:00. The student art created for the national PTSA’s Reflections
program will be on display throughout the school that night.
4. There will be a staff appreciation breakfast on December 16th.
5. Approximately 1800 lbs of bottle caps have been collected through the
Benches for Bradley project. This is more than double the original goal and will
enable the school to build benches for two former SSS students who have
recently passed away.
Closing Upcoming meetings for the SBDMC, the FIS School Board, the PTSA Board, and
the PTSA general membership meeting were announced.
The meeting adjourned and broke into work groups for Arts Night planning.
