Joe Amato joins our district as our Supervisor of Technology and Information Systems. Joe brings with him an impressive resume that includes practicing law for 14 years, serving as

Manager, Senior VP for Loan Administration, Statewide Services Manager and most recently as President of Equity Properties and Develop-ment. Joe has developed varying technologies throughout his career since his earliest days of building computers and networks in the 1970’s.

Joe Frana is the new principal of Moton Elementary. Joe has been an educator for 27 years, and of those 27, the last 11 years have been in school ad-ministration in Lake County,

including as principal of Astatula Elementary. Joe brings a leadership style founded on a strong be-lief in developing relationships with staff, stu-dents and families in order to increase student achievement and to create a school culture built on mutual respect.

Urban Gentleman’s Club teaches students On any given Tuesday, visitors to Pine Grove Elemen-tary may wonder if there is a wedding or perhaps a banker convention taking place on campus. The event actually is a weekly tradition for student members of the Urban Gen-tleman’s and Leading Ladies clubs. Sharply dressed stu-dents act as ambassadors on campus, greeting and guid-ing guests to the school.

Assistant Principal Nicholas Pagano started the club in March to nurture a positive culture in the student body. Exceeding all expectations, membership bloomed to 200 gentlemen dressing weekly, including 120 actively partici-pating in the club. “The kids walk a little taller and seem to have more confidence. They really love it”, remarked Pa-gano. The club has been so successful, in fact, that it has been picked up at Eastside Elementary this year with oth-

er elementary schools to follow soon.

In addition to dressing up every Tuesday, the students may also participate in bi-weekly meetings which feature a monthly guest speaker. Teachers nominate 2 to 3 gen-tlemen per grade level for a monthly Urban Gentlemen of the Month recognition consisting of a paw pin for their tie and a pizza party.

On Tuesday October 10th, the Gentlemen at both schools gathered to thank Career Source Pasco Hernando representative Kelly Castro for the donation of mono-gramed white dress shirts. The Gentlemen were joined by Superintendent Dr. Lori Romano and Board Member Mark Johnson who, along with Board Member Gus Guadagnino, was instrumental in supporting the event.

Brooksville Mayor Natalie Kahler visited the students of Mrs. Stumpfol and Mrs. Baud’s classes on the morning of October 13th. Responding to a chal-lenge from Mrs. Stumpfol, sixteen students brainstormed how they could make a contribution to their community. They chose one, created a plan to serve and vowed to complete within two months with no promise of reward. After being contacted by Mrs. Stumpfol, Mayor Kahler not only agreed to make an appearance but prepared a presentation showing how government is involved in the lives of students everyday from their waking up to arriving at school that morning. The sixteen students who completed the challenge were presented with Mayoral Proclamations signed and read by Mayor Kahler. It was a wonderful experience for all involved and left the students with a deeper understanding of the importance and relevance of civics in the real world.

Due to Hurricane Matthew, our Parent Academy’s ‘Digital Test Drive’ has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 17th, 5:30 to 7:30 PM at West Hernando Middle School. A Phenomenal Musical Revue at Timber Pines

Brooksville Mayor Supports Civics at Pinegrove

The Timber Pines Educators Club invited several of Hernando Schools’ Choruses to perform for the public at the Timber Pines Performing Arts Center. Vocal ensembles from Weeki Wachee High School, Springstead High School, Chocachatti Elementary School and Powell Middle School attended. Based on the buzz following the show the impressive musical abilities of the choruses and the comedic talent of the Micro Soci-ety Improv students from Chocachatti wowed the audience. The musical arts were on full display for the packed auditorium and the audience was generous in their praise of the students. Follow Hernando Schools on Facebook and the HITV channel on YouTube to see the show in its entirety.
