presented three applications for membership:

Bill Galvan, United States Air Force, Retired (1958-2000). Served in Vietnam.

Darrell Randolph, United States Army, Retired. Served in Panama and Desert Storm;

transferred into this post.

Jane Newman, United States Army Nurse Corps, Retired (1984-2005). Served in Desert

Storm.

Comrade Dowd moved to accept all three applications and was seconded by Todd Harness.

Quartermaster Reports Monthly –Presented by Quartermaster Doug Lyons. The September

2014 Quartermaster’s Report was reviewed with a beginning balance of $8546.26. Receipts

totaled $6373.78; disbursements totaled $ 6,743.83, and a closing balance of $8176.21 (see

attachment Quartermaster’s Report). The quarterly Trustee’s Report of Audit was also

reviewed (see attachment Trustee’s Report of Audit).

Todd Harness motioned to approve the Quartermaster’s report and Trustee’s Report of Audit;

seconded by James Peaslee. Motion carried by unanimous vote.

The agenda was amended to allow Dick Bearden and Bill Galvan to give their presentations at

this time; motion was made by Don Kenny; motion second by Stephanie O’Conner. Motion

carried by unanimous vote.

Dick Bearden: Our Annual Elegant Adult Christmas Gathering will be held on Monday,

December 8, 2014 at the Monument Hill Country Club.

Social Hour 5-6 pm Dinner 6pm.

Cost: $30 per person with checks payable to VFW Post 7829. May be mailed to: VFW Post

7829, PO Box 1512, Monument, CO 80132

RSVP and Payment to Teri Glavan by Tuesday, December 2, 2014 (719-237-7189 or

[email protected]).

With your reservation, The Monument Hill Country Club will provide a three consecutive day

family weekend pass for golf, tennis, fitness center, indoor/outdoor pool that will be good

through 6/30/2015. Joe and Kathy Carlson have sponsored two couples for this event. For

more details see attachment.

Bill Galvan: Homeless Veterans and The Village Ranch Project. This is a proposed Veteran’s

Village Ranch in Colorado Springs with 300 units for homeless veterans. The Powers Veterans

Village Ranch will provide a holistic and comprehensive transition, training, rehabilitation and

recreation center (see attachment). Comrade Galvan provided the opportunity for post

members to become sponsors in support of the worthwhile project. For more information see

attachment.

Reports of Committees and Sub-Committees:

Scholarship – Comrade Dowd reported all three programs. Deadline for the Voice of

Democracy is Nov 1st. The Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor this year’s Teacher of the Year award.

October 23, 2014: Patriots Pen and Teacher of the Year judging at the Monument Library at

1900hrs.

November 4, 2014: Voice of Democracy judging at the home of Tom and Mariann Dowd at

1900hs. Contact Tom Dowd at [email protected] if you would like to be one of the

judges. Dessert will be provided.

November 12, 2014: Awards Banquet at the Lewis Palmer Middle School at 1800hrs.

- October 25, 2014: Good News Jail and Prison Ministry at the Arrowhead Facility (minimum

security) in Canon City. At this time four post members have volunteered to take part in this

pilot visit to reach out to imprisoned veterans.

- November 4, 2014: Taste of Nepal/Tibet at the Pueblo VA Community Living Center. If

you’d like to attend, contact Comrade Delhousay and plan to meet at Sundance Mountain

Lodge @ 1130 to convoy to Pueblo.

- December 3, 2014: Christmas decorating at the Pueblo VA Community Living Center

- December 16, 2014: Christmas party at the Pueblo VA Community Living Center. Terry

Glavan will be collecting gifts for this event.

Veterans Assistance; Stand Down was presented by Commander Joe Carlson:

- Held on October 16, 2014 in Colorado Springs, CO.

- Over 150 members were served during the stand down.

- Seven families were placed at the Hotel Elegante which provided rooms and breakfast for the

families.

- October 22, 2014: The Ladies Auxiliary hosted a dinner for the families at the Hotel Elegante.

- The Gazette ran an article about the event and is posted on our web site.

- The goal is to end veteran homelessness by 2015.

Youth Activities: presented by Comrade Kenny:

- Cub Scouts will be putting together care packages for deployed troops. If anyone knows of a

deployed unit, notify Comrade Kenny.

- Boy Scouts will be assisting with Buddy Poppies at either King Soopers or Bass Pro Shop.

This will be coordinated with Comrade Kelly.

Buddy Poppies: Commander Carlson: The Post will distribute Buddy Poppies on both

November 8th, and 11th at King Soopers (Baptist Rd) and The Bass Pro Shop, from 9am –

4pm. The Ladies Auxiliary will hand out poppies at Whole Foods, on November 8th, 10:00am-

4pm. Sign-up sheets were passed during the meeting; plenty of space available for

volunteers.

Remember our National Home – Chaplain Don Kenny

Reading of Minutes; September meeting – Comrade Greg Smith moved to waive the reading

of the September minutes and to accept the minutes as posted on the Post website. Comrade

James Peaslee seconded the motion.

New Business:

1. Authorization for expenditures –Christmas gifts for residents of the Pueblo VA Community

Living Center. Pat McCarthy made the motion to approve $500 for the gifts; Todd Harness

second the motion. Motion carried by unanimous vote.

2. Comrade Bill Galvan proposed that a certificate of appreciation be presented to the Hotel

Elegante for their support during the Stand Down.

Good of the Order:

1. Comrade Todd Harness would like to donate $60 for a plaque to be presented to the Hotel

Elegante for their support during the Stand Down.

2. Department of Colorado Council of Administration: Training sessions on November 1-2,

2014 at the VFW Post 5812 Pueblo West. Training begins at 1000hrs on November 1, 2014.

The VFW Warriors meeting will be held at 1100 hrs and will ride at 1300hrs, weather permitting.
