The Legacy of Wheelers founder lives onAnn Wheeler had a passion for her companies. As one of the few women to own a dealership in the United States, she was a visionary and pioneer in the automotive industry. She wanted more, and demanded more from her company. Most impor-tantly, she worked harder than most to achieve those visions.

The result was growing the one dealership, Wheelers Chevrolet-GMC in Marsh-field, that her late husband and she operated to four independent dealerships. They include Wheelers Chevrolet of Marshfield, Wheelers Chevrolet of Wisconsin Rapids, Wheelers Buick GMC of Wisconsin Rapids, and Wheelers Auto Repair and Tire Center in Marshfield. Ann passed away on March 22, but had a vision to expand their Wisconsin Rapids location. That vision is now coming true with the opening scheduled for November 1.

Her son, Dan Wheeler, and her daughter, Mary Jo Wheeler-Schueller, are now carrying on the torch.

Wheelers Chevrolet in Marshfield is located at 2701 South Maple Avenue and the telephone number is 715-387-1204. Thank you Wheeler family for your dedication to the greater Marshfield area.

Early September, MACCI was pleased to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Wenzel Family Plaza is scheduled to be completed in 2018. This addition to the downtown will be located in the 200 Block, across from the Post Office.

Downtown is a dynamic mixed-use center and the heart of our community. More than any other part of the city, downtown defines Marshfield and embodies its character, history, culture, and commerce. Marshfield will continue to sustain and build upon those assets and qualities that make it a distinctive and cherished part of the community: its urban character, history, cultural resources, welcoming businesses, people, and diversity of uses. These efforts will be carried out through a partnership of city officials, community and business organizations, business leaders, property owners, and others committed to strengthening the social, cultural, and economic posi-tion of the downtown. Together, we will make downtown Marshfield a more welcoming, attractive, and vibrant place to live, work, shop, learn, and play.

The Wenzel Family Plaza will create a centerpiece for the community in the core of downtown Marshfield. This multi-use centerpiece will provide a year-round gathering space for the community, a place for the arts, events, families, lunch hour gatherings, relaxation, and entertainment. Some of the features and uses include a perfor-mance stage for outdoor concerts, a visually appealing water feature for kids to cool off on hot summer days, dining and seating areas, parking for the plaza and the surrounding downtown area, an area for a large winter ice skating rink, outdoor farmers markets, a large recreation area, and much more.

Those helping to turn over the first shovel of dirt included major benefactors, city officials, economic develop-ment board members, and Judy Wenzel, representing the Wenzel family.

Answer: Fortunately, you may have no need to despair. The further you are from retirement, the more time you have to resolve the expected shortfall. Even if you are closing in on retirement, there may be steps you can take to bridge the gap.

In some cases, the best solution is to cut back current expenses and use that money toward retirement. This will enable you to put more money into your IRA, 401(k), and other retirement savings vehicles. Although you may not think you spend much on dining out and entertainment, such expenses really add up over time. Eliminating large purchases like boats and other luxury items will also make a big difference.

But you might be unwilling to make such sacrifices. If so, or if you simply can't afford to save any more than you already are, consider investing more aggressively. Weight your portfolio more heavily toward stocks and growth mutual funds, and less toward fixed-income securities. A more aggressive investment portfolio exposes you to heightened volatility, but it may also provide a much greater return over the long run. The result: a potentially larger nest egg for you to draw on during retirement. Before investing in a mutual fund, carefully consider its investment objectives, risks, fees, and expenses, which are contained in the prospectus available from the fund. Review the prospectus carefully, including the discussion of fund classes and fees and how they apply to you.

Another alternative is to lower your planned expenses during retirement by setting more modest goals. Instead of buying that beach mansion on the Riviera, settle for a smaller house a few miles from the ocean. Similarly, instead of taking expensive trips around the world on a regular basis, travel closer to home and less often. The idea of a more frugal retirement lifestyle may not appeal to you, but financial reality may require it.

You can take a variety of other steps to make sure that retirement income will at least keep pace with retirement expenses. Some of the most common: work part-time during retirement or simply put off retiring until you're in a better financial position. Consult your financial planner for further advice.

The Inspire Central Wisconsin initiative brings together education and industry to help students and job seekers achieve

their goals and address communities’ workforce development needs. Inspire Central Wisconsin provides powerful tools for

students and job seekers and adult career searchers, community businesses, educators, and local system administrators.

In an initiative aimed at addressing Wisconsin’s workforce development needs, all nine of the state’s regional economic

development organizations have teamed up to develop a statewide platform that directly connects local employers to students.

In the Centergy region, that includes the Marshfield area in Wood County, MACCI is leading the effort.

Centergy and MACCI, with support from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and the Wisconsin

Department of Public Instruction (DP), will expand the use of a web-based platform called Inspire that virtually connects area

businesses to their future talent pool through online profiles, virtual career coaches, and career based learning activities for high

school students and educators.

What should I know about Inspire?

Inspire is a cloud-based platform that enables collaboration among all community partners in preparing youth to

transition from school success. Inspire integrates seamlessly into Career Cruising for grades 6 to 12.

Inspire connects education and industry with employer profiles, career coaches, work-based learning experiences,

communication tools, local events, and social networking connections in a safe and secure platform.

Students engage with employer profiles to see how their pathways connect with businesses and organizations in their

community. Students can ask questions of real working people in their community, learn about apprenticeship

opportunities, and see upcoming employer-hosted events.

Employers can connect with students and share information about the work they do and skills they need. They can also

target students with profiles that match their needs, all on a secure platform that protects students.

Community members can serve as pre-screened mentors to offer real-time career advice and answer students’

questions about the real world of work.

Where do I access Inspire?

Participating in Inspire is easy! To access and register your business on this cloud-based platform, visit Centergy’s website to

enter Inspire’s employer portal at http://www.inspirecentralwi.com. Upon selecting a username and password, you’ll begin to

establish your company profile. The company profile can describe your business, highlight unique attributes, and communicate

areas of need to future employees. Upon completion of the company profile section, career coach profile, submittal and

approval of a background check, you are now ready to receive and answer communications on your company message board.

The message board is monitored by administrators to ensure a safe environment.

I’m Inspired but need some assistance!

Have no fear, help is always available. MACCI’s workforce development director Karen Isaacson has attended training sessions,

set up a company profile and is now a career coach. She will also be the Inspire Administrator for the Marshfield area

businesses. Contact her at (715) 384-3454 or email [email protected] for more information.

Inspire is set to go live in the school districts on October 1, 2017. Therefore, don’t wait to get your company registered or you may

be missing out on connecting with your future workforce!
