CHAIR’S MESSAGE

As we start a new Kiwanis year I would like to say thank you for your hard work and dedication to serving the children. You will notice that during this year there will be a great focus on Marketing, Brand recognition and working together - in an effort to get the Kiwanis name known in the UK.

Our Theme for 2016/17 is Together – Children @ Heart. We have a great opportunity on October 22nd (Kiwanis One Day) to do

just that; as one or two representatives from each club will spend some time with the children of St. Georges’ Hospital and give

them presents.

I joined Key Club in 1997 to meet new friends and make a difference in my community. I am honoured and humbled to continue

my service as I begin my term as the Kiwanis Nation UK (KNUK) Chair. As we start the new Kiwanis year I encourage you to recall

the reason why you decided to join Kiwanis and encourage you to Re-energise the dream and show our community what you are

doing to help children as just like me when I was a child Kids Need Kiwanis.

The name "Kiwanis" was adapted from the expression "Nunc Kee-wanis" in the Otchipew (Native American) language, meaning "We have a good time," "We trade or we share our talents" so as we live up to our name I invite each of us to share our projects, work together and support each club and their events/projects. Following the Kiwanis One Day service day on October 22nd, the next Kiwanis UK board initiative is Young Musicians – In Celebration of Mothers on March 25, 2017. This will be a special day for the youth as well as the mothers as the mothers’ wouldn’t be celebrating the day if not for the children and children wouldn’t be here without mothers! During the year there will be other activities including training for club members and officers and divisional socials. We also have the Kiwanis International 102nd Annual Convention a little closer to home this year – Paris July 13–16, 2017 so I encourage a great KNUK contingent. The year will approach an end at the Kiwanis UK 7th Annual Convention August 11-12, 2017 at the Holiday Inn Brighton Sea Front where in the true spirit of Kiwanis we will celebrate all our achievements of the months prior and look ahead to another new and exciting Kiwanis year. Being a Kiwanian is all about discovering fun, fellowship and new ways to help make our communities and the world a better place - together we can be that spark that will make a change as #KidsNeedKiwanis.
