    Issue #67

Our imagination can be our deadliest enemy, or, our window of hope. In thisinstance I will refer to our imagination, and what we imagine, as our window ofhope. Whether it turns into a reality, or remains merely a vision will only dependon the nature of Sharmers during the next decade, at a start.

Do you ever imagine what Sharm would, and could be like, other than it al-ready is?

Im sure most of you have. Well, at least once or twice thought: if only thatcould.. what if this was..why isnt it like that.? And so on. Well, that is justlife for you. Its your ego wanting more, or less for that matter.

There are several places around the world that are untouched and spoiled bythe greed and ambition of today, is it possible for Sharm to become one ofthem? It certainly has the setting for it. Could Sharm ever become a sanctuary ofinternational peace, where cultures of the world come together as one? I meanif you really think about it isnt that what it really is; a beautiful city that peoplefrom all over choose as home. I mean, no one really is from Sharm (except theBedouins). We are all people that have chosen to settle here; we are Sharm set-tlers.

Now if we all moved away from what we had, and choose to settle in nature,as they say, wouldnt that mean that the social dynamics found in Sharm shouldbe very dierent? Shouldnt it mean that the social nature found here is meantto be; pure, free, liberating, non-judgmental, devoid of jealousy, regret, anger

    imagine a new sharm

Just do it. Get out there and do something for yourself. So , going back to imagina-tion, imagine Sharm if.

We used solar energy. We would not have the constant power cuts we usuallydo, and our bills would cost a lot less. Most importantly, we will be using a naturalresource that Sharm has plenty of, for something other than tanning.

We purify more sea water right here. Even in the desert heaven, we would haveplenty of water and it would be a lot cheaper than transporting it all the way fromEl Tor or even further still.

We live in peace, and by peace, I mean inner peace. Imagine what it would be liketo live free of racial and social prejudice. It can happen, it happened in Malaysia

very well! If everyone stops believing that their way is the right or the betterway imagine all the peace there would be owing in the air. Imagine all thatgood karma.

Bicycles were the main means of transport. With 9 months of perfect weather, and small distances in Sharm, why are people so persistent on using cars. Most ofyou are expats; back home you walk, cycle or take the tube to move around. Whyin Sharm, does the need for a car suddenly emerge? How come in Amsterdam itseems to work so well?

Imagine a place where you can walk down the streets without people harass-ing you, where you can show your true emotions without fear, apprehension orguilt. A place where everyone acts like one big family without the complicationof the modern lifestyles; go back to when Sharm was pure, simple and a lot lesscomplicated.

Every place is made by its people. Give it a thought and let us know what youcome up with, by emailing [email protected]

and deceit.Well guess what, such places do exist; places that are pure and simple. They arecalled Communes around the world, and the largest of them being the Kibbutz.

The kibbutz is a community of people who chose to give up everything for a morespiritual lifestyle. At the kibbutz, materialistic obsession doesnt exist; there theylive o the land, and learn to work for what they want. Everyone has a part androle to play.

Interestingly enough, and to my surprise, we found several Sharmers that havetaken that path. Here is what they had to say:

I spent about three four years on the kibbutz and absolutely loved it! If I could,I would go back Declared Anne, a mother of two.

Being at the kibbutz was the best experience and time in my entire life; I learntso much there and think that it would do everyone good to spend some time oftheir life at the kibbutz. Revealed, Mary, a local Sharmer.

Well, why does it have to be somewhere we go? Why cant Sharm be like that? Why is it that we complicate an otherwise simple life? That is beyond me Sharmis a virgin land where it is our duty, as the settlers, to cultivate and nourish it,whether by building things, agriculture or implementing new rules, principles andtraditions. We are what we make it to be, and it is us who should make the desertbloom, creating a new earth; free from all the nonsense we see and know aroundthe world. Sharm has so much potential that isnt utilized to its greatest advan-

tage. If we could wipe it clean, and start on a fresh plain canvas; to take a paint-brush and let ourselves go, what wonderful pictures we would paint. Well guesswhat? Its never too late.

    Sharms Bottom Line

    Join In For!!

What is the bottom line? You have to focus on what you want to do, and just do it. If you stop to think

bout what everyone else is saying and feeling, then you will never do anything.t is good to be sensitive to the needs and feelings of others, but not at your ownost, as that would classify as people-pleasing which we discussed in a previous

    ssue.

he bottom line is a general term used in our day-to-day dialogue, and is the sump of everything. You know how on a nancial statement from your bank, youyes roll down to the bottom line that shows your net income. Well, yeah, obvi-usly that is the bottom line. As they say in Arabic hat min elakher i.e. whats theottom line? Stop beating about the bush, (which is very common here). Say what

t is you want, and go get it.

So, what is the bottom line in Sharm? The bottom line is when I have had enough and say stop, and really mean it.

    Declared Anne, a local resident.

I havent found my bottom line yet; I seem to be able to just keep going on andn and on. I know it is going to come crashing down one day but I will face that

when it comes to it. Confessed Mark, a local diver.

The bottom line to me, is the make or break of a situation, dened Hesham, aocal business owner. It is the conclusion, the last word, the nal straw. In other

words what is it that we really want or need? He added.

The bottom line is that this is the way things are, and it will be very hard to changenything, so you will have to learn to adapt. Observed Adam, a new Sharmer.

Unfortunately the summer did not bring any improvement on the garbage front, on the contrary. The number of rubbish boxes declined, as did the number of garbageollectors. But on the positive side that let recently to another change in the management of SES, and we heard that since the this process started to reverse. Howeverhe sorry state of our streets (not to mention the former beautiful desert surroundings) can be just a warning to residents not to give up in the eorts for a cleanerharm. That will need the help of all Sharmers - get up and join!

oin in Clean Sharm and try to make a change. One can complain and sit back, and one can take things in ones hand. Luckily there have always been Sharmers work-ng quietly and unnoticed in their own special way for a better life for all of us. However, working as a group will give us a chance to be heard and reach higher goals.

or a beautiful clean and environmental friendly city we need:

A functional waste management system (timely collection of garbage, recycling and a well fenced-o sanitary landll for non recyclable waste) Enforcement of the environmental law in order to stop illegal dumping

Awareness about the danger of plastic (bags and bottles!) for our environment in general, and for the future of tourism in particular

lean Sharm has several task forces.

On the forefront Clean-Ups are organized by the Clean Up group, to set an example and raise awareness.Of course clean-ups have only a small and temporary impact, but are a perfect occasion to attract attention, inform people and make a positive contribution.

he EDU group promotes a change of attitude to garbage disposal with the famous motto: Reduce, re-use, recycle!ndeed, if you care about this area, do realize that your own behavior makes a dierence! Set the right example and put your garbage in the containers. Use your ownurable shopping bags, watch/reduce your water consumption and limit the use of plastic bottles.

ast but not least there is the Core group, which works quietly behind the scenes, together with relevant authorities and organizations to address the above and moreriorities.

Maybe we dont need to go Green, but we denitely want to go CLEAN!

oin Clean Sharm: join the regular Clean Ups, join us in our Facebook group Clean Sharm, subscribe to the regular newsletter (just write a short note to [email protected])

I love the bottom line, as I hate all the B.S that goes on; it just goes in one ear andout the other. Said Pete, a local shop assistant.

Also, what goes hand in hand with the bottom line is the power of nowjust livefor the moment.; this precise moment. Your past is what made you and got youwhere you are now, be thankful for it and your future in what lies ahead of you, look forward to it, but never remain living in the past or the future. The bottomline is Now. What do I want Now. Not yesterday, not tomorrow, not in a week.Now. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift that is why itis called present as the wise man once said.

Well, treat it so and act upon the power of now. Askyourself, what is it you want. Deep down inside, whatis your bottom line. Why are you in Sharm. Figure itout and go out and do it. If more people started todo that life would be a lot more progressive.

So, whether it is the power of now or looking forthe bottom line, just do it Sharmers, you will feel

life is a lot easier and you will be a lot happier. And as we all know, the more people are hap-pier, the better the karma in the air is.

Dear Readers,Rumour has it that schools are now o until December or even January. Wehave tried to contact the Ministry of Education to verify if this rumour is true orfalse, however we were unable to get a denite answer. So with this in mind, wegot in touch with some parents in Sharm, and here is what we found: Many dis-traught parents are extremely worried about their childrens education. Severalof them are even talking about leaving Egypt. Several other parents have notheard about such delay.

Well, whether it happens or not, the best thing we can do at the moment is tryto get our childrens minds working and not letting them lapse into laziness.Start by getting them to do at least an hours work a day. Buy exercise booksand refresh their memories.

Even x with other parents or friends for your children to study together to en-

courage them. Dont forget Sharmers, the future lies in their hands.

    Sincerely,The Editor

I decided to have something to eat as I waited for them to return. I went andbought a sandwich and a coca cola. While I was eating, I started talking tothe man I had met earlier; he seemed a very nice person. As we were gettingto know each other better, I really started to admire him. He told me a storyabout his family that he had lost several years ago, the pain in his eyes was sovivid, as if it had happened only yesterday.

He looked so frail, sad and lonely; I couldnt help but feel so sorry for him. This made me start to think about all the times recently that I had complainedabout my life and everything going on.

Suddenly I started to feel guilty; it really is as they say: there is always some-

one worse o than yourself so stop complaining and be thankful for what youdo have.

Stirring in bed, I was suddenly awakened by the sound of cars screeching andmetal grinding and clanking into each other. I jumped out of bed and ran tomy window.

There in the street I could see red and blue metal moulded together, while Iwas reaching for the phone to dial the emergency number, I was desperatelysearching for any one injured, luckily everyone seemed to be alright.

Having placed my call, I jumped into my shoes and raced to the door and downthe stairs into the street. I hadnt missed much, except that the drivers of bothvehicles had started to argue, curse and swear at each other.

I stood back for a couple of minutes just listening to what was going on andwas quite appalled at what I heard. They were bickering about whose faultit was and each was demanding the other pay for the damage done. Whenclearly they had both been going too fast, so were both to blame. They weregoing on about how much trouble they would get into because of the damagedone to the cars. I felt sorry for them and wished there was some way I couldhelp. I stood there for a couple more minutes than started to approach them.

At that moment, the police came racing down the street. Things had started toget aggressive, so to my advantage, they broke up the arguement.

It turned out that they were friends and had been racing for a bet, so I thoughtto myself; Not everything you see is what it appears to be...

The police were none too pleased to nd this out and carted them both o tothe police station.

Phew, maybe some peace at last as their shouts and accusations had broughtmany people to their windows and balconies.

There are so many national traditions, celebrations, occasions and festivals worldwide; many of them we havent even heard of! So why not make up some of our own, just for Sharm. Here are a few suggestions that we found while talking to dierent Sharmers on their opinion:

Carnival de Sharm is a must, where instead of oats we use quad bikes and camels that roam thestreets, styled and decorated in colourful costumes. That should certainly be a sight to behold in the streets ofSharm, and who knows, it may become one of the worlds most long-awaited events.

Divemas, where once a year all the divers in particular and non-divers get together in appreciation andgratitude of the amazing underwater wonders and enjoy the great corals and life below the waves. We canmake it a national holiday where people come from all over to celebrate it with us.

Khartiween to mark when the kharti guys were banned and can be celebrated by giving each otherpresents brought from the bazaars and shops where the kharti guys used to stand.

Some of you reading this may think that we have lost our minds, but dont. You never know what is going tohappen tomorrow, so the best thing we can do is try. It certainly worked out very well in various places. Hereare a few of the most popular events around the world:

The Carnival in Rio is considered one of the greatest shows on Earth. The rst festivals of Rio date back to 1723where everyone goes out dancing in the streets that are full of oats and having fun. Colorful and exquisitecostumes are carefully planned throughout the year. The best costumes can be seen on Sunday and Mondayof Carnival week in the specially constructed SAMBDROMO. The dates on which Carnival (Mardi Gras) hap-pens depend on a religious calendar (Roman Catholic Church). The Carnival (Mardi Gras) starts on Saturdayand ends on Tuesday.

Guy Fawkes Night is an annual celebration on the evening of 5 November. It celebrates the attempted Gun-powder Plot of 5 November 1605, in which a number of Catholic conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, werealleged to be attempting to blow up the Houses of Parliament, in London, England. In the United Kingdom, celebrations take place in towns and villages across the country in the form of both private and civic events. They involve reworks displays and the building of bonres on which Guys are burnt, depicting the infamousGuy Fawkes.

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st. Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain. The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the endof the harvest season in Gaelic culture, and is sometimes regarded as the Celtic New Year. We know Halloween as the time to throw great fancy dress parties wherewe dress up and have fun... Adults as well as kids enjoy this occasion with the chance to be someone you are not. So, why not we start our set of traditions? Lets makeour own; who says we have to stick to the rules; lets make Sharms own traditions. After all, we are pioneers of a newborn land, and it is up to us to pave the way forfuture generations. Do you have any ideas? Please let us know by emailing [email protected]

    for sharmers only...

useful sharm facts...Maybe you have just moved to Sharm or you have been living here for a while, well you can always learn something new. It is not about the length of time youhave been here but about how you deal with living in Sharm. Here are several tips to help you in Sharm and make your life slightly easier:

Most people expect tips in Sharm for doing things; however dont tip proud Egyptians as they will get really insulted.

When shopping in Sharm for vegetables and household items, head towards the Old Market, as you will nd things are cheaper and there is a larger variety tochoose from. However if you want the foreign brands, head towards Metro.

When driving in Sharm, try to steer clear of taxis and mini buses, as they always speed up and it is not worth having an accident trying to overtake them.

When renting a at here, establish rst how much electricity and water is going to cost you and whether it is included in the price of rent.

Make sure you read papers and contracts thoroughly rst before signing anything. If you dont understand the language they are written in, get a trusted trans-lator or lawyer.

There are so many dierent nationalities and religions in Sharm, so dont act racist otherwise you will never t in.

In Sharm, everyone knows everyone. So, if you need anything, you just have to ask someone.

Water, drinking water in the desert is essential. In Sharm, tap water cannot be used for drinking or in cooking andusing bottled water for everything can be a bit expensive. There are drinking water trucks that pass by several timesa day. The water is from El Tor and can be used for drinking and cooking. Also, it is a lot cheaper.

To nd out what Sharm is really all about, read the Sinai Weekly :-)

If you have any other tips, or words of advice from previous experiences, (which Im sure you have), feel free to sharethem with us, and prevent others from going through what you did, as it will help everyone in the long run. WellSharmers, enjoy the sun and sea while you can, and have fun living in one of the most beautiful places in the world.Remember you are the ones who make the place, not the place that makes you.

I keep the telephone of my mind open to peace, harmony, health, love and abundance.

Every day of my life is beautiful; every morning there is new hope.

Yesterday the 19th September, was more than beautiful as I attended the wed-ding of two of my most beloved friends.

Sermoneta is a thirteenth century hill town in Central Italy, on the 19th Spetem-ber it was lled with sunshine, music, song, laughter and love, with a gatheringof family and friends who had travelled from all over the world to celebrate thisspecial union.

The daylight receded as if soaked up into the ancient walls and cobblestones, Igave thanks to God for all the love I had shared during the day and as a new daydawned I whispered a special message to you,

I wish you all the very best by the grace of Allah, let there be peace within youand within the world you inhabit, Eid Mubarak.

So instead of celebrating that very special day in the sunshine with my friends inSharm, I took some quiet time out, in my hotel in Italy with a raging thunderstormoutside.

A perfect day to do nothing and think of nothing!

WHAT, HOW DO YOU THINK OF NOTHING?

I have been trying to think of nothing for the last hour, and it is impossible!Ok I could visualise, I could even use self-hypnosis but I cant hypnotise myself forthe whole day.

Did you know we have two to three thousand thoughts a day?

Then I remembered a teacher telling my parents when I was around six that I hadan overactive brain!

What on earth did that mean? Okay that comment served me well, every time Ibehaved badly my parents would look at each other, shrug their shoulders, lookat me pitifully and say to each other well it must be her overactive brain!

I watch funny DVDs to silence my thoughts, read hundreds of books, now andthen have great conversations with friends and on a daily basis try to laugh a lot.

I avoid television, it makes my senses, all of them, feel as if I have been intellectu-ally and emotionally raped.

I dont need to witness torture, death, family dysfunction, starving children, vul-garity and the myriad of insane substance, physical and emotional abuse in the

    Thoughts a Day

21st century as some form of sadistic entertainment. It might be the world I in-habit but I dont need to experience it vicariously.

Advertisements are for the mentally retarded. Have you seen the latest ones formascara?

It promises lashes of extreme length and separation. The only possible thing thathas lashes like that is a mascarad camel! It is all lies.

What about the family including the grandfather making a feast of a lump of

cheese? Whats that all about? If that grandfather has been eating that amount ofcheese hed have been dead twenty years ago from clogged arteries.

What about Bran, its not a new invention, is it?

Career woman coming down the stairs beautifully dressed, coied and cosmeti-cally enhanced, reaches the front door carrying her designer hand bag, Stopslooks at her handbag, frowns, worried look as if shes lost a million pounds. Dash-es up the stairs again.

Where has she gone? Did she forget her cheque book? The plot thickens; it musthave something to do with the handbag!

She comes down the stairs again; a benign smile on her face swinging the hand-bag, then a voice-over announces a laxative pill! Like Hello, whats the handbaggot to do with reminding this stupid woman she needed to use the toilet?

Was she considering the weight of her handbag or what?

Was she considering that if she got caught short on her way to work she couldhide behind a bush and use her thousand pound Gucci?

What is the signicance of writing a complicated story-line around the word Con-stipation?

Perhaps now you can understand and sympathise with the way my brain continu-ously acts and reacts, believe me it is not any easy thing to live with on a dailybasis.

At least writing this I have around eight hundred thoughts out of my mind; unfor-tunately you are now the recipients.

As a wise man once told me:

Think respectfully, speak quietly, and tread gently.Your thoughts, like your words leave footprints in the minds of others.

soon theyll forget my number.(Edith Armstrong)

    A View Of Egypt

Judgment:The majority of people here are extremely judgmental; they judge everyone andeverything for what they do or dont do; what they look like; or who they arePeople should start by looking at themselves rst before others.

Traditions:Greetings: in Egypt it is very common to see public displays of aection whenpeople greet each other. Whether two females or two males; they hug, kiss andgreet each other warmly. So, dont be surprised at what you see.

Destinations:This issue we will visit the beautiful town of Ismailia.

Ismailia is one of Egypts jewels; it is full of beautiful nature and greenery foundnowhere else. Ismailia has a bit of everything from the blue sea to green elds, sowhat more could you ask for???

Ismailia lies between Port Said and Suez. It is a beautiful town that harbours greathistory as does most destinations in Egypt. It was founded in 1863, during theconstruction of the Suez Canal, by Ismail the Magnicent, after whom the city isnamed.

Another important landmark in Ismailia is the Suez Canal University that was es-

tablished in 1976 to serve the region of Suez Canal and Sinai. Suez Canal Universitynow is one of the fastest growing educational institutes in Egypt with many stu-dents studying abroad. So, Ismailia should denitely be on your list of places tosee in Egypt if you are looking for soemthing with more of a natural feel.

    Dynamic Packaging BuoyantOver Summer

Dynamic packaging remained buoyant this summer because of a late sales surge, according to bed bank youtravel.com.

In June, July and August, average sales value was up 12% against summer 2008,largely because of currency uctuations. Sales volumes were equal to last year.

Majorca was the top seller this summer, with Sharm el-Sheikh second, and Dala-man, Turkey, third. This was followed by the Algarve, Rhodes, Costa Blanca, Creteand Costa del Sol.

Youtravel.com sales and marketing director Paul Riches said: Egypt performedwell, proving it is a real contender as a year-round destination.

Youtravel.coms bookings for winter 09/10 are down 10% against last year. How-ever, the bed bank predicts that Tunisia is set to be popular as it oers budget-friendly bookings and is not in the eurozone. For more info, please visit: http://www.travelweekly.co.uk

    remember this?

    green is good

    Yo-Yo

Green, is my favouritecolour, but is it yours

too?Green can refer to many things including the American dollar and emeralds, butmost commonly it is the greenery and foliage. Did you know that the word Greens closely related to the Old English verb growan meaning to grow?

Also, in some cultures, green symbolizes hope and growth, while in others; it isnown to be associated with death, sickness, envy, or even the devil. But the

most popular it is associated with is nature, regeneration, fertility and rebirth. We

re no strangers to the concept, as Green was symbolic of resurrection and im-mortality in Ancient Egypt, where the god Osiris was depicted as green-skinned.

Nowadays, going green usually means anything that is environmentally friendly.Well, here we keep you up to date with whats Green in the world and what is go-ng on with our planet today

    Lebanon to startreceiving Egyptian gas

mid-Septemberebanon will nally receive the long-awaited Egyptian gas to run the gas-red

Beddawi plant in the middle of this month, said the energy ministers of Lebanonnd Egypt. Visiting Egyptian Oil Minister Sameh Fahmi, who was speaking at aress conference with his Lebanese counterpart Alain Tabourian, said that gas

will cross Jordan and Syria before reaching Lebanon.

The minister attributed delays in deliv-

ering the gas to technical problems butsaid the problems had been solved.

Egypt will conduct a test on September8 to ensure that everything is in order.Neither Lebanon nor Egypt disclosedthe actual cost of gas to Beddawi.

In principle, Egypt will supply Lebanonwith 30 million cubic feet of gas andthis amount will operate two turbinesat Beddawi plant.

The plant was originally built in 1996 torun on gas but ocials at the EnergyMinistry failed to build proper net-

works and pipelines between the plantand neighboring countries.

Tabourian told reporters that the Egyp-tian gas will not boost production butwould instead reduce the cost of en-ergy bill.

Experts say natural gas is 30 percentcheaper than fuel oil and more environ-mentally friendly.

We are running our plants at full ca-pacity and we cant provide electricityto all of Lebanon at the same time. Weneed an additional 800 MW to meet

    growing demand, Tabourian said.

he yo-yo is that small circular toy on the end of a string that goes up and down. The yo-yo is made from two equally sized pieces of plastic, wood or metal with an axisn the middle that a string is looped around. How you play with this toy, is by throwing it down so that the string unwinds, then rewinds and so on. There is a loop athe end of the string that you slip your nger through to have control over the yo-yo.

The earliest surviving yo-yo dates to 500 BCE and was made using turtle skin disks. But as with everything these days, itsmodern version is a lot dierent from the original, but hey, thats life; we have to move forward.

The yo-yo has taken many forms over the years and dierent shapes including the imperial, modied and buttery as wellas several others which are not so popular: Humphrey, Ball, Slimline, Russell Style (Bulge Face), Puck, Satellite, Coaster andRiveted Disk.

Also, there are many tricks you can do with a yo-yo such as Sleeping (keeping the yo-yo spinning while remaining at the endof its uncoiled string), looping (keeping the body of the yo-yo in constant motion, without sleeping), o-string (the yo-yosstring is not tied directly to the yo-yos axle, and the yo-yo is usually launched into the air by performing a forward pass tobe caught again on the string) and freehand (the yo-yos string is not tied to the players hand, instead ending in a counter-weight. The counterweight is then thrown from hand to hand and used as an additional element in the trick).

Being so popular, there are many contests and competitions held for the yo-yo such as The International Yo-Yo Open whichis the largest yo-yo contest in the world and is held every year in August at South Street Seaport in New York City. Then there

is the World Yo-Yo Contest which is held every year in Florida, USA during early August or late July.

A yo-yo competition normally consists of two parts, a set of compulsory tricks and a freestyle, where points are scored foreach and the winner is the one who scores the most points.

Well, this is a toy for adults as well as children, so get out and get a yo-yo; it is yo-yo time.

Many pupils were studying meditation under the Zen master Sengai. One ofthem used to arise at night, climb over the temple wall, and go to town on apleasure jaunt.

Sengai, inspecting the dormitory quarters, found this pupil missing one nightand also discovered the high stool he had used to scale the wall. Sengai re-moved the stool and stood there in its place.

When the wanderer returned, not knowing that Sengai was the stool, he put hisfeet on the masters head and jumped down into the grounds. Discovering what

he had done, he was aghast.

Sengai said: It is very chilly in the early morning. Do be careful not to catch coldyourself.

willing to allow claims against themselves to be settled to their own disadvan-tage rather than spoil a relationship. They like the opposite sex to the extentof promiscuity sometimes, and may indulge in romanticism bordering on sen-timentality.

Their marriages, however, stand a good chance of success because they arefrequently the union of true minds. The Librans continuing kindness towardhis or her partner mollies any hurt the latter may feel if the two have had a ti.Nor can the Librans spouse often complain that he or she is not understood, for the Libran is usually the most empathetic of all the zodiacal types and themost ready to tolerate the beloveds failings.

The negative Libran character may show frivolity, irtatiousness and shallow-ness. It can be changeable and indecisive, impatient of routine, colorlessly con-ventional and timid, easygoing to the point of inertia, seldom angry when cir-cumstances demand a show of annoyance at least; and yet Librans can shockeveryone around them with sudden storms of rage. Their love of pleasure maylead them into extravagance; Libran men can degenerate into reckless gam-

blers, and Libran women extravagant, jealous and careless about money some-times squander their wealth and talents in their overenthusiasm for causeswhich they espouse. Both sexes can become great gossipers. A characteristicof the type is an insatiable curiosity that tempts them to enquire into everysocial scandal in their circle.

Whether it is your husband, partner, hild or pet,

Oxytocin Hormones: A studyby University of North Carolina re-earchers found that hugs increase thebonding hormone oxytocin and de-rease the risk of heart disease. Touchlso releases two feel-good brainhemicals, serotonin and dopamine.

Reduces stress: a previous studyound that hugging, handholding andherapeutic touch can reduce stressnd pain among adults, and reducesymptoms of Alzheimers disease, suchs restlessness, pacing, vocalization, earching and tapping.

Endorphins: hugging increaseshe bodys endorphins, relieving usrom pain and creating a mild eupho-ia. Medical facilities and treatmententers across the globe are realizing

ts true healing value, and now use hugnd touch therapy for the treatmentf pain, depression and fear in their pa-ients. One could almost say that hugsre natural painkillers.

    Hi Muriel,

I just came back from a holiday with my parents. It was ok - I can say. But I noticed that as soon as I am around them I sud-denly feel tense, stressed, cant breathe too well. I know the reason, and this because I am hiding stu from them, and thereason I am hiding it is no matter what I say or do, we could never agree, or agree to disagree. They would insist on tryingto convince me. So you can say, I am picking my battles. Any advice on what I can do to make that feeling go away? Thanks

    Answer:

I wish I knew what age you are, my guess is you are in early adolescence, which can be anywhere between 14 and 18. Thereare very profound stages we go through in our life which is why it is important for me to know ages and also where you arein the family hierarchy with regard to siblings, such as: you are a middle child or the eldest child etc.

The interesting thing about your letter is that you didnt suer the symptoms of stress and anxiety (which you are expe-riencing now) whilst you were away with your parents. Perhaps this because families are more relaxed on holiday. Thestage you are going through is quite normal, you are trying to assert your independence, however you are still a dependant, which is why you need your parents approval for most things you want to do. I dont think you are picking your battles, you are simply growing up and sometimes there is just too much to cope with on your own. Dialogue is the only way tocommunicate your worries and problems but of course I can understand why you feel nervous and pressurized about this.Try to remember your parents have been through the exact stage you are going through now.

Would it be possible for you to sit down and write a letter to your mother telling her you love her, but this is exactly howyou feel and your greatest wish is to be able to talk to her about your problems. Explain how important it is to be able toshare and reach a compromise with both of your parents. Perhaps you could show her these letters. Be sure in your heartshe loves you and wants you to be happy, but be aware your parents know what the risks are for young people and some-times you will need to bow to their experience and wisdom.

Thank you for your letter and I do hope you can nd the courage to allow your parents into your life a little bit more.

CAn easier number puzzle is as follows. Two friends are chatting:- Peter, how old are your children?- Well Thomas, there are three of them and the product of their ages is 36.- That is not enough ...- The sum of their ages is exactly the number of beers we have drunk today.- That is still not enough.- OK, the last thing is that my oldest child wears a red hat.

How old were each of Peters children?

Easy Deduction - solutionNone of the students can have numbers 1 or 10, since they would guess the other onesnumber with no problems. I will describe solutions at one end of the interval of numbers1-10 (the same can be done on the other end).

Information that the second student does not know must be important for the rst stu-dent. So the rst one must expect that the second one has 1 or 3 (if the rst one has 2).And as the second student does not know, then he has certainly not 1. So the rst pairis 2 and 3.

If the rst one had 3, then he would expect the other one to have either 2 or 4. But ifthe second one had 2 (and the second one would have known that the rst one doesnot have 1), then he would know the number of the rst student. However, neither thesecond student knows the answer so he has 4. The second pair of numbers is 3 and 4.Solutions at the other end of interval are 9 and 8 or 8 and 7.

Complex Deduction - solutionThe numbers were 2 and 9

The wisest one must have thought like this:I see all hands up and 2 red dots, so I can have either a blue or a red dot. If I had a blue one,the other 2 guys would see all hands up and one red and one blue dot. So they would haveto think that if the second one of them (the other with red dot) sees the same blue dot,

then he must see a red dot on the rst one with red dot. However, they were both silent(and they are wise), so I have a red dot on my forehead.

The important thing in this riddle is that all masters had equal chances to win. If one ofthem had been given a black hat and the other white hats, the one with black hat wouldimmediately have known his color (unlike the others). So 1 black and 2 white hats is not afair distribution.

If there had been one white and two black hats distributed, then the two with black hatswould have had advantage. They would have been able to see one black and one whitehat and supposing they had been given white hat, then the one with black hat must atonce react as in the previous situation. However, if he had remained silent, then the guyswith black hats would have known that they wear black hats, whereas the one with whitehat would have been forced to eternal thinking with no clear answer. So neither this is afair situation.

Thats why the only way of giving each master an equal chance is to distribute hats of onecolor so 3 black hats.
