I have had an interesting few weeks reading through all the school reports from year 7 to 11. What was especially pleasing to me were the large number of students who are applying themselves to their classwork every day and looking to improve everything they do. I congratulate these people and hope that you enjoy the excellent feedback provided in these reports. The only disappointing aspect was seeing that there were a number of students whose attendance has declined significantly and as a result, they are not achieving the outcomes we desire. I would like to again stress the importance of consistent attendance for all students in ensuring that they receive the level of education they need to make their futures far more productive and secure. Over the next two terms we will be working very hard to ensure all attendance rates are improved and if there are problems in doing this we are always available to support you in any way we can. An exciting result on the sporting front has been the progression of our Open boys Touch team through to the last 20 in the state. They are scheduled to host Bass Hill High School from Sydney in the first 2 weeks next term. We will be watching this game with great anticipation. Also next term we are holding our MADD evening in the school hall on Friday 10th of August. This is a great initiative and it will showcase some of the immense talent we have in our school. The staff and students have been working feverishly to ensure their performances are of the highest calibre. If you miss this you will never forgive yourself as it is the best $2 you will ever spend! I look forward to seeing a huge audience on the evening to support our students. The Year 11 2019 evening was very encouraging as students from year 10 began the process of selecting subjects to study over the next two years. Any parents who have not discussed this with the school staff, please contact the front office and arrange a time to see Mrs Parkes. Could I wish all students a safe and relaxing break and remind you that we will be resuming school on Tuesday 24th of July. All students are expected to attend each day work-ready-a school bag, writing materials and books. For all the information relating to the school make sure you are regularly following us on Facebook and our School Website.

FOOD ALLERGIES

Just a reminder about students bringing food to share at school. There are numerous students with allergies to many foods, particularly nuts, and many who have conditions such as celiac, or who are lactose intolerance. To ensure the safety of all students, we are required to follow the Department of Education’s Policy. Please negotiate with class teachers if your child is bringing in a birthday cake to share. This must have a list of ingredients contained in the cake. If your child has an allergy to food, or a food condition, please let the school know ASAP so it can be updated in the records. They will need to have a Health Care Plan in place for treatment.

Teacher Appreciation Lunch

Well done to Year 12 Hospitality along with Mrs Stevenson for a beautiful teacher Appreciation Lunch. The students chose one teacher to invite to lunch. Everyone was very well looked after and made feel vey special!

Support Unit Science Excursion Monday 18th June 2018

A group of Support Unit students from Stage 4 attended a Science excursion with Mr. Owen on Monday the 18th of June. It was a cold blustery morning out at Dripstone but everyone soon warmed up as Mr Owen led the group over hill and dale in their search for metamorphic, igneous and all sorts of interesting rocks and formations. Students also found the value in a pair of bush pliers as they negotiated the odd encounter with prickly pear. Next, Mr Owen took the group to Mt Arthur where they examined more rock formations and got to see where the old weir once stood. After a quick lunch, the group was off again, this time to view the new wind farm at Bodangora. The students were impressed by the huge size of the propellers and got to see the true scale of the turbines when a local farmer drove his ute near the base of one of the immense towers. It was a great day out for all involved. Thank you to Mr Owen.

Cross Country Colour Run

Wednesday 13th June Wellington High School students participated in a Cross Country Colour run at Pioneer Oval. The day began with students running laps around Pioneer, where they were covered in coloured powder. It was great to see so many students participating on the day. After the cross country we had a teacher colour throw, where students could purchase coloured powder to throw at a teacher. In the afternoon there were activities where the four sport houses competed against each other in Captain Ball, Tunnel Ball, Touch Football, Soccer and Tug– O– War. The enthusiasm and encouragement from all students was fantastic, especially in the teacher verse student Tug– O– War match.
