IRB Oceania Sevens Championship 2010 - The Oceania Sevens Championship

featured 8 rugby teams from Samoa, Australia, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Niue, Cook

Islands, Vanuatu and Tahiti. The competition was held at Austar Park in Darwin,

Australia 1 - 2 October.

Tries Conceded: start of phase

• Team 1-2 concede few tries from set piece (scrums / lineouts)

• Teams 1-2 and 3-4 concede larger percentage of tries from turnovers

• Team 1-2 concede most tries through left side of field

• Team 5-6 and 7-8 concede most tries through right hand wing

• Team 1-2 concede a high percentage of tries from within the opposing team’s own half (long-range tries)

• Team 1-2 have a consistent try scoring pattern

• Team 7-8 score a large number of tries during the 1st quarter and few tries during the 4th quarter of the game

• Team 1-2 rely on evasive skills and overlaps to score tries

• Team 7-8 display a high number of kick-chase tries

• All teams except 1-2 tend to rely on tries scored through the attacking player outrunning the defence

• All teams attempt to score tries between the posts (easier conversion)
