Statement of Purpose of the Portfolio

This practice teaching portfolio was prepared and developed to provide and share

experiences for those who will undergo the same undertakings. Some classroom

difficulties and problems that she had encountered are mentioned, and the lesson that

she had learned. The greatest value of this practice teaching portfolio is that it serves as

the mirror of the practice teacher for their progress and achievement in their practice

teaching. And also this practice teaching portfolio was prepared to expose the pre-

service teacher experiences so that they can use it in relating their theories learned

inside the classroom to become globally competitive.

Another purpose of this practice teaching portfolio is that it assess the pre-service

teacher’s learning for the preparation in future life in facing the real world of teaching.

The pre-service teacher must do always their best in imparting knowledge to the

students. Just love your students so in return your students will be embracing you too,

with the great things you’ve done to them not only in cognitive side but in affective and

psychomotor development.

Prayer of Pre-service teachers Student Teacher’s Prayer

Composed by Dennis V. Salamanes

Eternal God,

We are truly grateful of the blessing that you have showered upon us.

Thank you for the gift of life, for the loving students, for the loving and caring family,

for the understanding and compassionate teachers, for the supportive principal and for

this wonderful day that we are about to share together with your guidance and

protection.

Bless us all as we are about to deal a new lesson, new knowledge to inculcate, new

experiences to embrace, new ideas to share, new values to feed our morale, new output

of our painstaking labor to fulfill our satisfaction, new opinions to open up with others,

new camaraderie to develop and a lot more that we are humbly asking from your most

benevolent heart that grant simple requests into a sure reality.

Lord, Bless all schools that it may dynamically and competitively become a center for

sound learning, new discovery, and the pursuit of wisdom; and grant that those who

teach and those learn may find you to be the source of all truth and wisdom.

Lord, we ask forgiveness for all the sins that we have committed and we are sincerely

accepting your Holy Spirit to rule our hearts and minds so that we can avoid the

temptations and some forms of evil as we continue fulfilling our roles in this beautiful

world as children of God. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who

lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever Amen.

Teacher's creed

I believe I have been called by God to teach.

I believe in children...young and old...black and white...rich and poor....each in need of

learning.

I believe in blackboards, chalk dust, textbooks, and computers for each has a part in

imparting knowledge.

I believe the love I give to my students will someday be reflected in their lives.

I believe the gift of teaching is not measured simply by marks, enrollment, or the end of

the school year.

It is in the witness I give and the fullness of the life lived by those I teach.

I believe I have the power to lead those in need of learning to the threshold of their own

minds.

I believe in my giftedness to use each of the tools available no matter how new or old..for

the light of knowledge in the eyes of another is my goal.

I believe teaching is more than tests, diplomas, paperwork, and fundraising.

It is the values I breathe daily into another...slowly.

It is in the faith I share in Jesus...ever changing and growing...never ending.

I believe my success today goes unnoticed...until those I teach and touch can stand alone

and say "in my life I have learned..."

I believe if I have taught and touched one person...in God's name...I have used my gift to

me justly..and can humbly say...

I believe in teaching....

I AM A TEACHER!!

Personal Education Philosophy

The philosophy is that people must believe in something. According to John

Dewey, education is by its nature an endless circle spiral. It is an activity, which includes

science, because in its process, it raises problems to be studied which then reacts upon

demanding more through, more science in an everlasting sequence.

This definition of education makes it imperative to a person to have a philosophy

of education and beliefs in the function of teaching.

A teacher should believe in the intended processes and activities to produce

desirable changes in the behavior of students. We must believe in the capacity to effect

these changes, promote and facilitate these changes through the mastery of the subject

matter and the use of appropriate methods and techniques of teaching.

A teacher also functions as manipulator of teaching learning situations. As a

manipulator, she believes in her ability to create a series of operations directed to

change specific behavior. These are just the parts of a teacher’s educational philosophy.

As a student teacher, she must believe in something that will eventually help her

in setting the goal of her life. This will focus on the values and objectives of the new

social order; the will help the teacher in analyzing and organizing her objectives;

crystallizing the thoughts that will serve as a guide to prevent a teacher from getting lost

their maze of her many-faceted chores. The school occupies premier place in the

construction of the society, particularly in the matter of changing the attitudes toward

community. The role of the teacher plays will be a crystallizer and an evaluator of the

educational program under the democratic society.

December 4 & 5

This first two days are the start of my practice teaching. I’m assigned to Ma’am

Jennifer R. Alecha, a Grade 9 TLE - Cookery teacher. That time, they were having their

laboratory weeks wherein the students are about to apply what they have learned in

cooking and preparing a variety of food. The week’s task was to make and prepare a fruit

salad. Throughout those days, each group of each class excellently made and prepared

fruit salad. They included me as one of the food tasters to evaluate their works. After

that week, I thanked God that he already make me step in practice teaching and most

fortunately, he placed me to a kind and helpful school.

December 8 – 12

This week was the continuation of last week’s task. This time, I’m now the one

who assisted the students in making and preparing the fruit salad. Since this is the first

time I’ve been in a culinary or cooking class in TLE because I never had this when I was

in high school, it made me also learned and appreciate it. I’ve learned that correct

measurement of each ingredient was vital or important in preparing it because a little

failure to measure one of its ingredients affects the product a lot. And another thing I’ve

learned is that there should be no missing ingredient. But since, the students are all

good and really have the knowledge it making and preparing it, we were able to solve

little problems and able to have a delicious and delightful fruit salad.

December 15 – 19

This week was to make another kind of salad which is “buko-pandan”. I was so

excited when Ma’am told me that this was the next recipe we are going to make. In the

back of my mind, it’s just WOW! I’m sure there was a lot of food tasting and evaluating.

And that was happened.

My students and I learned a lot this week. Many things happened during the

laboratory, a good one and a bad one. The good thing happened was that they learned

Page 17: OBANDO, JUDY ANN Practice Teaching Portfolio

17

and appreciated making and preparing buko-pandan. The bad thing was that, since this

was the last week of the year and the Christmas vacation is coming, the students are

already playing a lot and not doing and complying their laboratory task.

January 5 – 9

This week was the resume of classes. On the first Monday, I assigned students to

clean the room. The next days was allotted for the students to comply and complete

their unfinished projects and laboratory tasks. They make and prepared fruit salad,

buko buko-pandan and vegetable salad. Then, on Friday was their third periodical test.

January 12 – 16

This week was the first week for fourth quarter. Ma’am gave a chance to those

students who didn’t have their periodical test. Then we checked the papers on

Wednesday and most of the students passed the periodical test. The Thursday and

Friday are the Pope visitation here in the Philippines that’s why there were no classes.

January 19 – 23

This week was the start of the lesson proper for fourth quarter. Monday was still

no classes because this day was the last day of Pope Francis in the Philippines. On

Tuesday, we continued checking the periodical test. On Wednesday, we had pre-test to

know if the students have already knowledge on the topics for fourth quarter. Then on

Thursday and Friday, we discussed about Sandwich and its history and the Tools,

Utensils and Equipment Needed in Preparing Sandwiches.

Page 18: OBANDO, JUDY ANN Practice Teaching Portfolio

18

January 26 – 30

This week, we jump on the topics about sandwiches and proceeded in discussing

about desserts. Monday, we had discussed the desserts and its history. Tuesday, we had

discussed about the types of desserts and I prepared an activity for them that day. I

named it scavenger hunt wherein they were going to look and find for the letters to

complete the assigned word to them. For Wednesday and Thursday, I let my students

watch videos on dessert making. I downloaded videos about pancake and crepes

making. Then on Friday, already had laboratory #1 and it is about pancake making.

February 2 – 6

This whole week was laboratory week and the recipe to make and prepare is

pancake. First, I assigned groups for each day and let them bring all of the ingredients

needed. Although some students are still hard-headed to make them wear and use their

PPE or personal protective equipment, most the students understands now the

importance of using it in cooking and preparing food. And also, the importance of

sanitary practices that they have to keep in mind so that their food products are

delicious and perfect along with their creative and very good garnishing.

February 9 – 13

This week, we go back on discussing about sandwiches. We discussed the parts of

a sandwich and the variety of ingredients that can be used for it. We also discussed the

types of sandwiches. I also prepared and have my dry-run in preparation for my

February 16 final demonstration teaching. On Friday, I had a chance to watch a division

demo-teaching held at Lagro High School AVR. I observed the teacher’s strategies in

teaching and adapt the good points he has in teaching that I can also apply for my final

demo-teaching and for the rest of my teaching career.

Page 19: OBANDO, JUDY ANN Practice Teaching Portfolio

19

February 16 – 20

This week is the final demonstration teaching week of my classmates in Lagro

High School. We are all became busy preparing for it, however, we make sure that we

are helping each other and pray for a successful final demo-teaching. I am the first one

who will going to perform demonstration teaching in our group. That was Monday and I

am so ready for it. My classmates help me to prepare and assist the evaluators. And then

I perform and it was successful. My demo-teaching piece or my topic is about Ham and

Cheese French Toast, a kind of rolled sandwich. After that day, Ma’am told me to relax

now and the other Practice teacher will now start to handle the classes from that time

on.

February 23 – 27

This week was a hectic and full of schedule week because we have lots of activities

and seminars to organize in school, PUP. In Monday and Tuesday, I helped in assisting

classes since the other practice teacher is now in charge in handling the class. In

Wednesday, there were no classes since it is the EDSA People Power Day. And Thursday

and Friday, I told Ma’am Jen that I will not be at Lagro High School because we have

seminars to attend and to organize and then she let. Thursday, we had the seminar on

Pre-employment and many companies visited our school. And Friday we had the annual

consultation and meeting of parents of graduating students. We organize the event and

it was successful.

HISTORY OF LAGRO HIGH SCHOOL

In the early seventies, the growing number of people in the GSIS La Mesa

Homeowners Association (GLAMEHA) triggered the need for a high school in Lagro

Subdivision. The officers of GLAMEHA requested fervently for an establishment of a

high school next to Lagro Elementary School. With the aid of the city government and

the education bureau, Novaliches High School with Mr. Florencio Dumlao as principal

started accepting students. This high school annex started on June 13, 1974 with 87

students and a facility, which were humbly two housing units in Block 59 and chairs the

students provided themselves.

On August 26 of the same year, Lagro Annex was transferred to the Lagro

Elementary School compound and occupied the sawali-walled makeshift building. The

high school was then headed by Mr. Crispulo A. Pilar with Mr. Narciso M. Caingat, Mrs.

Nilfa C. Caingat and Mrs. Greta Manlapig as pioneer teachers.

Two years after, the enrolment rose to 249 from the former 87 with three sections

in first year, two in second year, and one in third year. They were all managed to stay in

just four classrooms guided by nine teachers of Lagro. .

The first graduation from this high school happened two years after with an

increased enrolment of 461 with Mrs. Josefa Q. Maglipon, head of the Home Economics

Department in Novaliches High School, who replaced Mr. Pilar(who left for the United

States)

The School Year 1977-1978 reached 774 with 15 sections occupying seven

classrooms. With this problem on accommodation, Mr. Florencio Dumlao appealed to

the national government for a Lagro Annex Building. Through the unrelenting efforts of

the department head-in-charge and with the PTA lobbying behind, the 1.3 hectare

present school site, and building became a reality.

At the opening of classes on June 11, 1978, 923 students flocked the newly

constructed building which was a two-story 18-room structure standing proudly with

Page 22: OBANDO, JUDY ANN Practice Teaching Portfolio

22

Mrs. Maglipon as head of the school. She was replaced with Mr. SilverioReinoso. Mr.

Reinoso had to continue with the challenge to manage 19 sections of students with just

32 teachers. It is really a challenge but he overcome with it.

It was the significant day of September 1, 1978 that Lagro High School was

inaugurated by Mrs. Commemoracion M. Concepcion, the former schools division

superintendent. Thus, it has become its foundation day.

Hand in hand with the influx of residents in Lagro Subdivision is the continuous

increase of student population. And to accommodate this increasing population, a six-

room building on the southern site of the campus was constructed. The school then also

improved with the completion of concrete fences surrounding the campus, construction

of the stage and the new steel flagpole, all to house and educate the community for them

to have a better education.

Mr. Reinoso was replaced by Mrs. Virginia H. Cerrudo on September of 1981.

Mrs. Cerrudo was replaced with Ms. Felicidad C. Gutierrez in 1987 bringing

another building funded by the city government. The same year created the Lagro High

School-Payatas Annex with 257 students. This annex was assigned to Mrs. Sheridan

Evangelista, who was then the Social Studies Department Head of the main school

Promoted as Principal IV, Ms. Gutierres was transferred to E. Rodriguez Jr. High

School. Mr. William S. Barcena took her place as the principal of Lagro High School on

June 1991

Three years after, Mr. Barcena was replaced by Mrs. Cristina C. Monis, the

General Education Supervisor I-English, as Officer-In-Charge on January 8, 1993.

Mr. Gil T. Magbanua replaced Mrs. Monis on June 13, 1993

To accommodate the continuous increasing enrollees, the three-story building funded

by the Quezon City Government was constructed. The third Annex in Fairview was

finally opened with Mrs. Justina A. Farolan as the Teacher-In-Charge.

Dr. Consolacion C. Montano replaced Dr. Gil Magbanua later on with more

improvements.

Page 23: OBANDO, JUDY ANN Practice Teaching Portfolio

23

Mrs. Sheridan Evangelista made her comeback as the principal of Lagro High

School in 1998 with improved facilities and technology advancements for the school.

The dawn of more improvements was realized when Dr. Fernando C. Javier

became the principal in April 2003. The construction of the new building previously

applied by Mrs. Sheridan Evangelista was built and inaugurated by the successor, Dr.

Javier. The SB Building and the full renovation of the formerly called Social Hall was

transformed into a multi-purpose conference room conveniently equipped with

multimedia projectors and modern sound technology now being utilized for events,

seminars, workshops by the whole division. The construction of the new gate,

renovations of all facilities and the covered court; Lagro High School now boasts of not

only its talents but it’s conducive learning ambience sure to provide every learner more

motivation to pursue his dreams.

Lagro High School reaped achievements in the district, division, regional and

national competition under Dr. Javier. The Bureau of Alternative Learning System was

established and soon after the Open High School. The Special Education Program was

established accepting deaf and blind students. The Guidance Program was also

enhanced and improved with the administration of Dr. Javier. International

competitions, speech and debate contests sponsored by the government and private

companies, PalarongPambansa, National Schools Press Conference and the creation of

the Special Program in the Arts which annually showcases talents in its culminating

activities

Today, as we speak, Lagro High School does not only have a growing number of

enrollees but also consistently develops as a community that consists of highly

competitive and productive members under the supervision of the new principal Dr.

Maria Noemi Moncada.
