Wilson to intern for Representatives Bunch, Stewart during 2012 Legislative Session Nicolas Wilson (center), a 2009 graduate of Whitley County High School, is serving as an intern for Representatives Regina Bunch (left), R-Williamsburg, and Jim Stewart (right), R- Flat Lick, during the 2012 Legislative Session. Wilson, a junior at the University of Kentucky, will intern this summer for 5th District Congressman Harold Rogers in his Washington, D.C. office. Wilson is the son of Jim Wilson and Donna Rowe. The board, under the lead- ership of Dr. John Jeffries, has worked hard to main- tain the tradition of this Independent School District. With the new addition to the school, 20,000 sq. ft. has been added to the existing building. New classrooms, bathrooms, offices, and resource rooms are part of this new addition. With the acquisition of much needed land, the cam- pus has expanded over the past couple of years and addi- tional parking has been built to better serve the school dis- trict. Superintendent Dennis Byrd praises the work of this board and continues to work closely with each of them for future improvements for this district. The members of the board include Chariman Dr. John Jeffries, Vice-Chairman Roger Faulkner, Kim White, Kim Williams, and Allan Steely. The Board Attorney is Paul Croley. The new addition will be opened for the students fol- lowing the spring break. Students and staff at Oak Grove Elementary celebrated UK day. Everyone was encouraged to dress in their wildest UK attire. Students in Mrs. McKiddy’s first grade received an extra burst of spirit by having their face painted by Mrs. McKiddy because they had rocked on the CTBS test review. Principal Mrs. Faulkner and Assistant Principals Mrs. Crisologo and Mr. Powers joined Mrs. McKiddy and her students to celebrate their achievement. Oak Grove students celebrate UK day Cumberlands students inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta On Monday, March 5, University of the Cumberlands (UC) Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta inducted their newest mem- bers during the Annual Initiation of the Freshmen Honorary Class. Membership is open to full-time freshmen students who earn a scholastic average of 3.5 or better at a four year college or university. Founded in the spring of 1924 at the University of Illinois by Dean Maria Leonard, Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes and encour- ages academic excellence among first year students. Today, Alpha Lambda Delta has over 250 chapters throughout the United States and more than 700,000 students have been initiated into membership since the first chapter was started more than 80 years ago. During the ceremony at UC, Shannon Whittenberg (Louisville, Ky.) was elect- ed President, Selby Gibbons (Hamersville, Ohioio) was elected Vice-President, and Sofia Molina (Williamsburg, Ky.) was elect- ed Secretary. Williamsburg Independent School Board honored at recent meeting

T h e W i l l i a m s b u r g Independent School Board was honored at the March board meeting.

The board, under the lead-ership of Dr. John Jeffries, has worked hard to main-tain the tradition of this Independent School District.
