keep us mindful of your trust in us to do so.

*RESPONSE "When Jacob Awoke" Christopher Grundy

MISSION MOMENT: STRENGTHEN THE CHURCH READING FROM THE CHRISTIAN TRADITION Mark 4:30-32 Jesus also said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” READING FROM THE HINDU TRADITION Chandogya Upanishad This soul of mine within the heart is smaller than a grain of rice, or a barley-corn, or a mustard-seed, or a grain of millet, or the kernel of a grain of millet. This soul of mine is greater than the earth, greater than the atmosphere, greater than the sky, greater than these worlds.

Today at Peace

Youth, 9:30am: If you’re interested in the oral histories of some of our members, please join our oral history project. Our group of interviewers is meeting in room 20 Sunday morning at 9:30. So far, we have two interviewees lined up. We anticipate starting interviews within the next few weeks. Questions? Call Debbie Gregg (314.495.7223).

Summer Choir Summer Choir will meet TODAY in the sanctuary at 10:15 to rehearse and then sing at the 11:00 worship service. If you were unable to sing in the chancel or folk choirs this year, but love to sing, here is your chance!! Don't worry the anthem selected can be prepared in our short rehearsal time. All are welcome!

Worship Activities for Children Activity sheets and crayons are available in the narthex, just behind the Welcome Table. The activity sheets are coordinated with the scripture readings and offered for both younger and older children. Please see an usher if you need any assistance.

Shepherds at the 11am Service We are pleased to offer a supervised play time for preschool-age children following the Children’s Story. How it works:

Following the story, children gather with Naomi & a volunteer in the narthex (just outside our sanctuary) and walk downstairs together.

To help us keep our children safe, we ask adults to sign children in (either before the service, ask an usher for the clipboard, or before they go downstairs, see Naomi in the narthex).

Parents are always welcome to escort the children downstairs and stay as long as you wish.

Once signed in, children stay with the adults in the Red Room.

At the close of worship, adults meet children in the Red Room (lower level) and sign them out.

The Shepherd Room is a tree nut and peanut free zone.

One: Whether we understand what is written in the Bible as fact, metaphor, myth, or story,

Many: let us appreciate the wisdom contained in these words.

CHILDREN’S STORY Following the story, young children are encouraged to remain in worship with

their parents, or they may choose to go to the nursery (birth-3) or to Shepherds (11am: ages 4-6), a playtime in the Red Room downstairs.

Mission Moment for June:

Strengthen The Church Strengthen The Church (STC) is a special mission offering to reimagine and build the future of the UCC. Shared at the con-ference and national levels, STC largely supports youth ministries and full-time leaders for new churches in parts of the country where the UCC voice has not been heard. As God calls our congregations to be the "church" in new ways, your generosity will plant new churches, awaken new ide-as in existing churches and develop the spiritual life in our youth and young adults. STC funds will also be used to award grants to help congregations communicate the "God is still speaking," message. Our congregations will receive the STC offering throughout the month of June, and Servant Team representatives will be sharing more about this offering in worship today. To give, use the STC special giving envelopes lo-cated in the pew racks and under the chairs. You may also mark your check made payable to Peace UCC with “STC” in the memo line. To give electronically, simply scan the QR code printed below and chose the option “mission moment”.

In Our Prayers…

The Black Lives Matter Yard Signs Project

Peace UCC is now a distribution site for the Black Lives Matter Yard Signs Project. This project began on January 14 at the MLK service hosted by Central Reform Congregation (Rabbi Susan Talve) and Christ the King UCC (Rev. Traci Blackmon). The Project aims to build solidarity one St. Louis yard at a time. Over 500 signs are already up in neighborhoods across St. Louis, with the hope of increasing that number to 5,000 this summer! Signs are not for sale, however, donations are being received to print more signs. Each sign (with stand) cost $4.55 to produce. Checks made payable to Peace memo: BLMYSP or cash in a envelope marked for BLMYSP may be submitted to the church office. To get involved: Get a sign, show your support, talk about your support for the movement. Put your sign in your yard, take a picture, and tag it on social media with #blacklivesmatterysp and your zip code / municipality / neighborhood. Soon Black Lives Matter yard signs are visible all over town – particularly in white neighborhoods – and help create a long overdue conversation about structural racism in St. Louis.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Believing that each joy and/or concern expressed is indeed a prayer, after each expression, the worship leader will say: Loving God. And the people

may respond: Hear our prayer. PASTORAL PRAYER LORD’S PRAYER

Heavenly Parent, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

INVITATION AND REMEMBRANCE based on our Theological Assumptions

Minister: Come, Holy Spirit, and move among these elements assembled at this Table.

Many: Through this sacrament, transform our hurt into healing, our fear into faith, and death into life.

Minister: As this bread, sown in hills and valleys, is harvested, and now becomes one in the loaf,

Many: so we, scattered, diverse, separated and isolated from one another, hear your invitation to become one body around this Table, the center of our life together.

Liturgist: As this juice, grown in vineyards under the sun, fills the cup, may we be filled and refreshed by this meal,

Many: and strengthened to respond to your call to reach out in compassion to all living things. Minister: In sharing this meal we remember.

Many: We remember meals Jesus shared with friends and enemies, outcasts and

marginalized, fearful and earnest. Minister: He took the bread and, giving thanks, blessed it and broke it

and shared it with his guests, saying, “This is the bread of life, symbol of my sacrifice.”

Many: As we share the bread today, we eat it as those who seek to follow Jesus.

Liturgist: After the meal, Jesus took the cup. Giving thanks, he shared it with his guests, saying, “This cup symbolizes a new relationship with God, a relationship of partnership founded on grace.”

Many: As we share the cup, we seek to experience that grace in which Jesus lived fully.

All: Come, Holy Spirit, come. Bless this bread and bless this fruit of the vine. Bless all of us in our eating and drinking that our eyes might be opened,

that we might recognize the risen Christ in our midst, indeed, in one another. Come, Holy Spirit, come.

The Congregation is invited to come forward by the center aisle, partake of the bread (gluten free wafers are on the table) and juice,

and light a candle in prayer, and place an offering in the plates beside the table. You may also give electronically from the pews by scanning the QR code to the right. Catch the eye of a table host if you would prefer to be served at your seat.

We are invited to share our tithes and gifts to support the work of this community in the service to God.

RESPONSE “For the Sake of the World” Christopher Grundy Please remain seated

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

Leader: God you plant the seed for your kingdom

New Installation in the Fireside Art Gallery

The quilt on display in the fireside room this month, from the collection of Cliff and Gail Saxton, was made by Faye Burden of Madisonville, KY. The traditional name of the pattern is “Wind Roses” or “Mariner’s Compass.” Ms. Burden explains the pattern with a quote from Judy Mathieson: Before the magnetic compass came into general use in the 13th century, sailors in the Mediterranean used eight predictable winds to navigate. These eight winds were represented on charts or maps by a design called a wind rose. As the magnetic compass became common, its northern point was superimposed on the design and became a compass card or compass rose. When the design was used for a quilt, it became known as the Mariner’s Compass.

ConKerr Cancer Pillow Case Making Worship

Saturday July 25, 1pm in Fellowship Hall

Each year 44,000 children across North America are treated for cancer while thousands more experience life-changing illnesses and injuries. A hospital stay is a frightening experience for adults, and even more so for young children. Beyond the obvious medical fears and difficulties, a sterile hospital room lacks the comfort and warmth of home.

Join us as we come together with sewing machines and darling fabric to create pillow cases for children in the St. Louis region who are recovering from cancer treatments. No sewing machine? No problem! We'll have some for people to use! No sewing skills? No worries! We'll have people available to help you.

Just show up, pick out your fabric, and sew! It's easy and will make one more child feel safe and comfortable in some of their darkest days. For questions, please see Berkeley Rebman or Betsy Reznicek.

Bulletin recycling: Though we invite you to take your bulletin home to review the prayers and opportunities throughout the week, if you choose to leave your bulletin after the 8:30am service, place it in the basket and we will use it again. Bulletins placed in the basket after the 11:00am service will be recycled.

Notes: Sources for words, images, and music are noted where available. Permission to reprint music and words from sources other than The New Century Hymnal is granted under OneLicense.net, license no. A-704973, and/or LicenSing.org.

Peace Trail: July 20-24, 9am-noon Our annual summer program for children entering PreK-6th Grade,

with leadership opportunities for Youth and Adults. A sense-ational week of hands-on activities, songs, stories, art, and snack! Our five senses help us understand our world and ourselves and to appreciate others. Join us as we use our senses to bring peace! Through taste, touch, smell, hearing, and sight, we can learn to be receptive and develop an understanding of those who are different from ourselves- the basis for peace! Every day of Peace Trail will include hands-on activities: songs, stories, art, snack, and time spent outdoors. Each day we will explore one of our five senses to see how it can help us experience and contribute to peace. As a responsible member of God's world, how do we use our senses to understand others and become a vehicle for peace and justice? Visit: www.peaceuccstl.org/peace-trail-2015 to register online before July 9. Brochures are available in the narthex, with information about daily activities and frequently asked questions. All children are welcome at Peace Trail, so please share a brochure with a friend!

Lost and Found The lost and found items are on display in the church narthex. Please peruse the table at the picnic and claim any of your belongings. Unclaimed items are periodically given to Goodwill. Throughout the year, the lost and found storage bin may be found underneath the table just outside the church office.
