    A RESOLUTION URGING THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO DESIGN, DEVELOP, ANDINCLUDE PEACE EDUCATION AND PHILIPPINE CULTURAL TOPICS IN VALUES EDUCATION,

    ARTS AND HUMANITIES SUBJECTS FOR K TO 12

    WHEREAS, according to the study on the search of underlying causes of ideologically motivated

    conflicts in the Philippines, one of the main causes of the conflicts of the Filipino people is minoritization

    which may lead to misconceptions and misunderstandings of each culture;WHEREAS, the commonalities of the different religions and beliefs must be programmed and

    structured to be the basis in approaching values education and humanities. This must include secular

    views such as humanism, morality based on human welfare of individual human rights;WHEREAS,ways of reconciliation and respect of diversity must be introduced to the students on howto prevent larger conflicts;WHEREAS, the indigenous values of the Filipino people should also be studied in the ValuesEducation subject in an experiential method as much as possible;WHEREAS, Philippine Literature, including but not limited to epics, songs, novels, poems, and plays

    should be studied in the Arts and Humanities subject;

    WHEREAS, concerned agencies such as National Commission on Indigenous People and NationalCommission on Culture and the Arts and Heritages should be asked for assistance in developing the

    topics concerned;WHEREAS, the K-12 program needs to have peace education and nationalistic values formation topics

    in its curriculum;WHEREAS,love for the country should be emphasized in teaching topics concerned;NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the Chairperson andmembers of the 9th NYP to urge the Department of Education to design, develop, and include PeaceEducation and Philippine Cultural topics in values education, arts and humanities subject for K to 12.
