NSCC - “ALAB –KARBAWAN PROJECT”

The Nueva Segovia Consortium of Cooperative (NSCC) was fortunate enough to be one of the beneficiaries of the Buffalo Entrustment “ALAB –KARBAWAN” Project in Ilocos Sur under the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Carabao Center (PCC). This was made possible through the initiatives of the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Senator Cynthia Villar and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representative and 1st District Congressman of Ilocos Sur, Hon. Deogracias Victor “DV” Savellano as Focal Person. It is also worth noting that this happened under the administration of Dr. William D. Dar, Secretary of the Agriculture, Dr. Arnel N. Del Barrio, Executive Director of Philippine Carabao Center, and Ms. Grace Recta, Center Director of Philippine Carabao Center – Mariano Marcos State University in Batac City, Ilocos Norte.

Turnover of Initial 11 buffaloes to NSCC by PCC

The Certificate of Entrustment was awarded to NSCC as the recipient of forty (40) dairy buffaloes under the ALAB – Karbawan Province–Wide Carabao Value Chain Improvement Network Project on November 14, 2019 at Central Mindanao University Convention Center, Maranag, Bukidnon.

An initial eleven (11) buffaloes were turned over to NSCC on June 25, 2020 at the Agro-Tourism Farm in Don Alejandro Quirolgico, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur wherein a building was provided for their housing. A blessing was conducted on June 24, 2020 led by Rev. Father Ian Paul R. Filart, Ex-Officio BOD member who represented the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia of Ilocos Sur. Present during the blessing was Dr. Divina C. Quemi, Chief Executive Officer. The purpose of the project is to augment local dairy milk production.

NSCC as of last year is one of the seven billionaire cooperatives in Region 1, with a networth of Php 5.2 Billion, with more than 200 affliate members nationwide, and is operationally assisted by less than 500 staff. Their CEO is Dr. Divina C. Quemi, a pioneer member who started the cooperative decades ago. She is the chairperson and representative of RDC-I and arecipient various awards. NSCC is a beneficiary of various projects from the NGAs and LGUs due to their trustworthiness and capacity to support and implement projects. (Raymund Pillorin)
