The Town Clerk , as returning officer , instructed the 1-1.ldermen to v1ri te the nru11e of the candidate they wished to select ; this was done and on countin~ , he declarea tlo.t each candidate h3.d secured six ( 6) votes . The tv1o candidates vrere then invited by the Returning Off i cer to draw out of the hat .
