Nature Network – scientists want to be social

Social network for scientists, launched 2007

Scientists can:

• write blogs

• network with other researchers

• join groups and forums

• participate in Q&A

• use widgets on Workbench since early 2010

Workbench – it’s all about sharing

Aim: To help scientists work faster

Customizable platform with science widgets

Users can add/remove widgets, move them around on their personal Workbench

Why OpenSocial? Because it’s open and social ;)

The web is better when it’s social - http://www.opensocial.org/

OPEN Nature Publishing Group is a champion of online sharing

• Connotea APIs (social bookmarking site) available since late 2004

• Open Search APIs launched in 2009 allow remote searching of nature.com

Developers should be able to submit their apps to multiple platforms

SOCIAL Nature Network promotes social connections

We want to be open. And social. =

Widget wish list

Widgets can facilitate research in many ways:

• They can be purely scientific, i.e. DNA sequence manipulation tools,

• or they can help make everyday life easier, i.e. time zone converters.
