WELCOME TO NW PROSPECTS ACADEMY – NPA Please read in full. This is an outline of our programs that we are constantly changing, adapting and making adjustments in order to provide the highest quality experience for every young ball player and family. INSTRUCTORS vs GAME MANAGERS/COACHES Instructors: Teachers of the game The “what” Hitting, defense, throwing, pitching, game situations etc. are taught by experts in mechanics. The “when” The precise timing needed to make an action happen. Fraction of a second determines success or failure in this game. Instructors can easily spot and fine tune when an adjustment is needed. The “why” The reasoning behind the “what” and the “when” (based on knowledge and experience). According to Bloom’s Taxonomy, teaching is the highest classification of behavior important to learning. Really, consider this: upon mastering a skill, you must be able to both communicate it and ensure your student understands & applies! We firmly believe the value in what you pay for is found in the impact and experience from the instruction provided by our professionals. Game coaches/managers are there to reinforce actions/movements/verbiage, attitude, etc. Coaches/Managers: Foster relationships to motivate and inspire plus situational baseball reinforcement Set Goals and objectives Adjust to game situations Motivate Structure rosters and assess playing time Our team coaches/game managers are handpicked by NPA staff to produce a quality environment for the team in a competitive situation; whether at practice, in a game or any other event. We do our best to locate such managers by: Choosing coaches/managers based on ability to communicate with players/parents. Identifying whether each has “bought in” to the “Academy Way,” our system of offseaon training & philosophies regarding game situations/mechanics so that they reinforce what the instructors are teaching. Noting that they have a passion for learning to increase their own knowledgebase & skills as a coach. Finding the best instructors should be the focus of all players/parents Our Instructors evaluate, synthesize, and analyze baseball information for all players. They diagnose problems and offer prescriptions to them, not simply communicate the errors. NPA has more collective experience in its 20 instructors than ANY other program around (yes we did the math): High School: 46 years College: 60 years Professional: 90 years Instructional: 137 years These instructors work all players from 9u all the way up to 18u, from the beginning of the offseason training program to end of the season. At NPA our teams experience training and development all year. NPA instructors continue running workouts/practices (pitching, hitting, defense, catching, situational baseball) for our teams throughout the season both indoors and on our home fields (Tacoma and Puyallup).

WELCOME  TO  NW  PROSPECTS  ACADEMY  –  NPA

Please  read  in  full.  This  is  an  outline  of  our  programs  that  we  are  constantly  changing,  adapting  and  making  adjustments  in  order  to  provide  the  highest  quality  experience  for  every  young  ball  player  and  family.

 INSTRUCTORS  vs  GAME  MANAGERS/COACHES

 Instructors:  Teachers  of  the  game

• The  “what”  Hitting,  defense,  throwing,  pitching,  game  situations  etc.  are  taught  by  experts  in  mechanics.  • The  “when”  The  precise  timing  needed  to  make  an  action  happen.  Fraction  of  a  second  determines  success  or

failure  in  this  game.  Instructors  can  easily  spot  and  fine  tune  when  an  adjustment  is  needed.  • The  “why”  The  reasoning  behind  the  “what”  and  the  “when”  (based  on  knowledge  and  experience).

Coaches/Managers:  Foster  relationships  to  motivate  and  inspire  plus  situational  baseball  reinforcement

• Set  Goals  and  objectives  • Adjust  to  game  situations  • Motivate    • Structure  rosters  and  assess  playing  time

Our  team  coaches/game  managers  are  handpicked  by  NPA  staff  to  produce  a  quality  environment  for  the  team  in  a  competitive  situation;  whether  at  practice,  in  a  game  or  any  other  event.    We  do  our  best  to  locate  such  managers  by:

• Choosing  coaches/managers  based  on  ability  to  communicate  with  players/parents.  • Identifying  whether  each  has  “bought  in”  to  the  “Academy  Way,”  our  system  of  offseaon  training  &  philosophies

regarding  game  situations/mechanics  so  that  they  reinforce  what  the  instructors  are  teaching.  • Noting  that  they  have  a  passion  for  learning  to  increase  their  own  knowledge-‐base  &  skills  as  a  coach.

Finding  the  best  instructors  should  be  the  focus  of  all  players/parents

Our  Instructors  evaluate,  synthesize,  and  analyze  baseball  information  for  all  players.  They  diagnose  problems  and  offer  prescriptions  to  them,  not  simply  communicate  the  errors.

• NPA  has  more  collective  experience  in  its  20  instructors  than  ANY  other  program  around  (yes  we  did  the  math):  • High  School:  46  years  • College:    60  years  • Professional:    90  years  • Instructional:    137  years

• These  instructors  work  all  players  from  9u  all  the  way  up  to  18u,  from  the  beginning  of  the  offseason  training  program  to  end  of  the  season.

COLLEGE  RECRUITING  –  EVALUATION  CAMPS  –  EXPOSURE  WORKOUTS

GBG  COLLEGE  RECRUITING  SEMINAR

Michael  Garciaparra  and  staff  from  Garciaparra  Baseball  Group  (GBG)  will  be  providing  our  NPA  players  14u  and  older  with  a  college  recruiting  seminar  AND/OR  Donnie  Marbut  –  Head  coach  at  WSU  for  13  seasons.  (alternate  annually).    Garciaparra  Baseball  Group  (GBG)  has  had  over  50  players  sign  with  D-‐1  schools  or  be  drafted  in  the  past  year.  Michael  is  a  former  1st  Round  Draft  pick  by  the  Seattle  Mariners  (2001),  current  MLB  So-‐Cal  Scout  with  the  St.  Louis  Cardinals  and  younger  brother  of  15yr  MLB  player,  6x  All  Star  and  former  Boston  Shortstop  Nomar  Garciaparra.  Also,  NPA  players  will  be  able  eligible  to  play  as  pick  up  players  for  GBG  at  national  events  should  they  be  invited.

SO-‐CAL  CONNECTION  –  COLLEGE  RECRUITING  –  “THE  GBG  NETWORK”

Why  GBG?  GBG  (Garciaparra  Baseball  Group)  is  a  top-‐tier  national  college  prep  program  that  has  had  over  50  players  in  the  last  year  commit  to  4-‐year  schools  or  be  selected  in  the  recent  MLB  draft.  GBG  was  founded  by  Michael  Garciaparra  (9-‐yr  Pro  player/1st  round  draft  pick/Current  St.  Louis  Cardinals  SoCal  scout)  younger  brother  of  Nomar  Garciaparra  (15yr  MLB  career  and  6x  All-‐Star  for  the  Boston  Red  Sox).      NPA  works  hand  in  hand  with  both  local  and  national  college  coaches/recruiting  coordinators  and  outside  recruiting  consultants  to  ensure  our  players  do  not  go  unnoticed.  Whether  a  small  junior  college  program  or  major  D-‐1  we  work  hard  to  prepare  our  players  to  play  after  high  school.  Because  of  GBG’s  clear  success  and  expertise  in  this  area,  they  were  our  go-‐to  when  deciding  how  to  better  meet  this  need  in  the  Northwest.  We’re  excited  to  collaborate  with  GBG  for  this  reason!  Not  to  mention,  the  collaborative  events  will  be  fun  to  say  the  least.  The  #GBGfamily  is  growing  &  we’re  proud  to  be  a  part  of  it.

PLAYER  PROFILES    NPA  offers  a  player  profile  page  complete  with  videos,  instructor  notes  and  player  analysis  to  aid  in  the  recruiting  process.  Players  can  add  a  player  profile  in  the  fall/winter  for  an  additional  cost  to  the  program.  These  profiles  will  serve  as  tangible  and  visual  information  that  can  will  be  accessible  to  college  coaches.

GBG  TEAM  NORTHWEST    We  will  hand  select  players  14u-‐18u  eligible  from  our  rosters  to  participate  in  several  major  events  across  the  country,  players  will  showcase  their  skills  and  then  return  to  their  respective  rosters  for  local  league/tourney  play.  All  players  in  NPA  programs  are  eligible  for  this  program  but  roster  spots  will  be  given  solely  to  standout  players  at  their  respective  age  groups.      All  fees  associated  with  GBG  Team  Northwest  are  not  included  in  NPA  player  fees.  Any  and  all  Travel/lodging  and  transportation  costs  will  be  paid  by  the  player/family.

FUNDRAISING  OPPORTUNITIES  –  Individual  &  Organizational

Opportunities  for  fundraising  are  available.  At  NPA,  we  feel  that  working  together  to  raise  funds  to  benefit  others  is  part  of  building  team  comradery  and  individual  character.  NPA  works  alongside  a  501(c)3  non-‐profit  organization  in  order  to  help  generate  funds  for  families  and  also  to  cover  the  costs  associated  with  running  the  NPO.  All  Fundraisers  will  be  clearly  defined  as  to  what  the  funds  are  being  generated  for.  Players  are  encouraged  to  participate  but  such  events  will  always  remain  optional.

Please  note

• Individual  fundraising  opportunities  are  also  available.  Several  families  raise  funds  by  working  together  in  fundraising  groups  (Showare  events,  Seahawk,  Sounder  games  etc).  Information  is  available  for  families  who  wish  to  participate.  We’ll  guide  people  in  the  right  direction  but  won’t  spearhead  groups.

• Teams  can  fundraise  for  any  additional  tournaments  beyond  the  #  of  tournaments  provided  in  the  program  (listed  in  games  section)  as  long  as  all  individual  player  fees  are  paid  (restaurant  takeovers,  carwashes,  etc)

• In  the  fall/winter,  players  will  participate  in  the  annual  “Swing-‐a-‐thon”  fundraiser,  each  player  will  secure  donations  and  multiply  that  number  off  of  his  performance  in  a  skills  competition.  Funds  raised  will  directly  benefit  the  player,  and  ideally  be  available  for  fall  uniform  package  purchase  (many  players  cover  their  entire  uniform  purchase)

• Donations  can  be  earmarked  directly  for  an  individual  player,  group  of  players  or  entire  team.  Donations  to/for  individual  players  cannot  exceed  the  total  program  cost  &  any  associated  travel/gear  expenses  of  the  individual  player  (board  members  have  outlined  acceptable  expenses).

• All  fundraisers  will  follow  the  guidelines  set  forth  by  the  NPO  board  of  directors.

• All  families  intending  to  utilize  the  affiliated  NPO  for  player  fees/programs  costs  must  annually  sign  the  form  “agreement  for  participation  in  fundraising  with  the  NPA  Athlete’s  Fund.”  Forms  are  available  September  1.
